The Youth Reserve premium money will be pro-rated, based upon the number shown during the 2017 Ohio State Fair. A Supreme and Reserve Supreme Champion will be chosen for each session. OUTSTANDING BREEDING EXHIBITOR A total of $6,000 will be distributed to first through third places in the Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor Project, with first place receiving $2,500 second place receiving $2,000, third place receiving $1,500. Sponsored by the Youth Reserve Program. Fourth through tenth places for the Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor will be sponsored by the Ohio Swine Youth Committee. The non-profit Ohio Swine Youth Committee is a support group for swine shows at the Ohio State Fair. Proceeds are generated from sponsorships of swine shows, the Ohio Crossbred Classic, and the Ohio Youth Gilt Show. ENTERING PROCEDURE Ownership deadline: June 1. All animals must be owned by and in the care of the exhibitor by June 1. Entries close on June 20. Entries may be done in 1 of 2 ways: On-line entries through is the preferred method of entering. Exhibitors should retain a record of their exact login information (username and password) for use in future years. Paper entry blanks are available All entries must include exhibitors name, complete address, and entry fees. 4H/FFA Members must be registered for the project through their county extension office or FFA Chapter. If you are exhibiting a Junior Breeding Gilt, you must be registered for the 4H/FFA Breeding Gilt project, in your county, even if your county does not exhibit at a local level. Online entries must include FFA Advisor or 4H County Extension Professional information. Junior Exhibitor s entries will not be finalized until the confirmation is received back from either the FFA Advisor or 4H County Extension Professional. This takes the place of the signature required on the paper entry form. Breeding gilt entries must include Breed and number of animals (entries) exhibitor intends to show. Registration papers for all purebred gilts are required. (See Ownership Guidelines for more details). Registration information is required prior to July 20. It includes Registration number, breed, donor or bred and owned, gender, sire, sire of dam, birthdate and ear notch, It may be entered in the following ways: 2

3 Completed at the time of on-line entries through the on-line entry system. Completed through the Google DOCS form available at the website under Swine Department. Completed using on-line excel spreadsheet that is submitted via to gov A fine of $10 per head will be charged at time of check-in for failure to provide ahead of time. Registration papers must be presented at the time of check-in. Originals required. No copies accepted. All breeding swine must be ear notched. Registration papers will be checked with ear notches of animals before animals can be shown. Substitutions may be made within BREED at the time of check In ONLY. If entering both Junior and Open, you MUST complete BOTH entry forms for both paper and on-line systems. LATE ENTRY (June 21-July 20) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If wanting to enter both Junior and Open, then it would be $50.00 for each area, plus the animal entry fee. Any entry made July 21 and after will be charged $75.00 per exhibitor, per species and per animal charge. TICKET INFORMATION. Junior Fair exhibitors are provided a ticket for each day they are required to participate as a Junior Fair exhibitor. These tickets are colored coded. You do not need a admission ticket if you arrive before July 25. You will receive you tickets once you check in the Swine office. Junior Fair Exhibitors MAY NOT purchase parking permits! Tickets, for family member use, are available throughout the fair: $ day punch ticket (multi person useexample: 3 people, 2 admissions ) $ one day ticket (one individual use) OWNERSHIP AND AGE GUIDELINES All animals exhibited must have been actually owned and continuously cared for by the individual exhibitor including all showing rights by June 1. Ownership of an animal will be considered lost if, after June 1 of current year, the animal has been consigned or sold through an auction or any other type transaction, even if the exhibitor buys back his animal. All Breeding Gilts must have been farrowed on or after December 1, Breeding gilt classes will be shown by age. EXHIBITION Pen assignments can be requested beginning at 1 pm on Monday, July 23 at the Ohio State Fair Swine Barn Office. Call In requests may be taken after 3 p.m. by calling Swine Office phone. All pens are assigned by the Swine Department personnel. Exhibitors must check for correct pen assignments before bedding down. Exhibits incorrectly located will need to move to assigned area. If exhibitor fails to follow pen assignments, they will be asked to leave. Pen space limited to pigs only. NO TACK or FEED in pens. Boards may be put across the top of pens for tack and feed storage. Pens are approximately 5' x 7'. Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed troughs, buckets, etc. Feed and first bedding will not be furnished, but will be available for purchase. Feed Store Exhibitors should arrange to feed their animals between 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Ohio State Fair will follow the Ohio Department of Agriculture Livestock Exhibition Rules. No oil or oil-like show dressing will be permitted at the Ohio State Fair during the show. Water is the preferred and accepted dressing Powder and whitewash will not be allowed on Chester White, Landrace and Yorkshire, Poland China will not be permitted to use paint, powder or oil at the Ohio State Fair. The use of the above will result in forfeiture of premiums. Any breed failing to exhibit a total of 15 animals in the breeding classes will be cause for evaluation of continuing this breed in future shows. AWARDS Animals in each class will be placed on a etc. basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical placing. The placing premiums will be as follows: $25; $15; $5; $5; $5 per class. Classes will be divided by a maximum of 7 head per class, plus or minus 3. The Youth Reserve premium money is based on number of exhibitors at the 2017 Ohio State Fair. A Champion and Reserve Supreme Gilt and Top 5 will be chosen from each session shown. Monies will be provided from the Farm Credit Mid-America for Supreme and Reserve Supreme. will provide awards for Top 3-5 Placings. 4 Lean Value Sires will offer a $250 scholarship for a graduating senior who shows a junior or open breeding gilt at the Ohio State Fair. Contact Lean Value Sires for more information. PUREBRED BREEDING SWINE SALES SESSION 1 BREED SALE Thursday, July 26 Berkshire, Chester White, Poland China, Spotted and Hereford swine breeds will conduct a breeding swine sale following their open breed shows. See Division 16 Open Swine Show for information. SESSION 2 BREED SALE Sunday, July 29 The Duroc breed will conduct a sale of their breeding swine following the open class swine shows. The Yorkshire, Hampshire and Landrace breeds will hold a combined sale of their breeding stock following their open class swine shows. See Division 16 Open Swine Show for information. BRED AND OWNED Bred and Owned classes will be for the junior gilt show only at the Ohio State Fair for the following breeds: Hampshire Landrace To be eligible for Bred and Owned: Exhibitors MUST declare that his or her gilt is eligible for the bred and owned division at time of providing registration information and again confirming at check-in. All gilts MUST be owned by the exhibitor. The exhibitors' first and last name must be listed on the pedigree as BOTH the owners and breeder to be eligible for the Bred and Owned. There may be multiple names listed, as long as the additional names are under the age of 21 and from the same residence. Farm names will be accepted. However, anyone listed under the farm name that is over 21 and not from the same residence will NOT be accepted. Bred and owned gilts will show in their respective regular classes. There will not be a separate class for the Bred and Owned Division. The selection of the Champion and Reserve Champion Bred and Owned gilt will be made by the junior gilt judge following the selection of the Champion and Reserve Champion gilt. Only the first and second place Bred and Owned gilts in each class are eligible to return for the Bred and Owned championship drive. Awards will be given to the top two Bred and Owned gilts in each class. The Champion and Reserve Champion Bred and Owned gilt will receive premiums and banners. The top five overall will be placed, with third, fourth, and fifth place receiving premiums. All Berkshire swine must be registered by the American Berkshire Association and is the only Berkshire swine registry recognized by the National Association of Swine Records and the National Pedigreed Livestock Council. DIVISION 506 LANDRACE Enter all Landrace Gilts in Class 50 Landrace swine may not exhibit excessive skin pigmentation nor any hair color. Excessive is defined as over three (3) pigmentation spots any one of which is greater than the size/diameter of one U.S. minted quarter. Furthermore, registration papers are required for proof of breed purity. The Landrace Gilt classes will be equalized as evenly as possible after check-in, at the discretion of Fair Management. Donor Gilts must be identified at registration and confirmed at Check-In. Donated for 2017 or daughters or granddaughters of previous gilts shown by the original recipient. Each exhibitor need only indicate on their entry form the total number of barrows they are entering in the Junior Fair Barrow Show. A maximum of six (6) barrows per exhibitor may be entered. Enter ALL Barrows in Class 001. After weigh-in barrows will be placed in the proper breed and weight class. Do NOT select the breed when entering. Registration papers for all purebred barrows are required. Registration papers must be presented at the time of check-in. Originals required. No copies accepted. All purebred barrows must be ear notched. Registration papers will be checked with ear notches of animals before animals can be weighed. This is a terminal show; all barrows will be weighed and tattooed and must be sold for harvest by silent auction. Checks should be made payable to: Ohio State Fair. It's permissible to pay for multiple family members with only one check, provided all entries are sent in the same envelope. Parking permits are available ONLY if you show in open class. See Open Class Swine Division for procedure and cost. If entering both Junior and Open, you MUST complete BOTH entry forms for both paper and on-line systems. Exceptions will be made only for exhibitors who may be physically impaired, who have two animals entered in the same class, or an exhibitor absent on show day due to other commitments. In case of these exceptions another boy or girl who is eligible to be an Ohio Junior Division Exhibitor, MUST be a resident of Ohio, may exhibit the animal with the authorization of the Department Director. If a Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitor cannot be present at the time of judging the exhibitor will need to present to the Department Director a written permission notice signed by the football coach, band director or any other person in charge of an activity that is in conflict and prevents the exhibitor from being present at the time of judging. This notice must be on official letterhead of the organization and given to the department director 24 hours before show day and must include name, county, birthdate, home phone number, and complete address of the exhibitor's, home and work of the person in charge of the event (i.e. football coach, band director, etc.) Also include a brief description of the conflict. BARROW WEIGHTS & WEIGH IN All barrows must be weighed. Barrows must weigh between 220 and 280, plus or minus 10 pounds at the time of weigh-in. Only barrows meeting weight requirements will be eligible for showing in the Junior Division classes. There will be a market discount on barrows weighing under or over standard market weights. At weigh-in on Wednesday, August 1, barrows may be re-weighed only if one of the following applies: (1) barrow is less than 210 lbs. or (2) barrow is more than 290 lbs. Re-weigh will take place within one hour of official weight. A declaration of weight will be allowed after official weigh-in. This weight must be declared in the Swine Office within one hour of the completion of your breed's weigh-in. All declared weights and official weights must be within the limits. If a show weight is not declared at the Swine Office, your official weight will be your show weight. The top barrows in each weight class will be reweighed and any barrow weighing 15 pounds over, or under the official weight, on weigh in day will be automatically disqualified from the show. All weigh backs during the show will be plus or minus 15 pounds of the show weight. All barrow classes will be divided after weigh-in with 12 head per class, with plus or minus 5 head for breed/ class breakdown. TERMINAL SHOW AND SALE All barrows are marketed and sold through United Producers. A sale expense fee of $3.50 per hog will be deducted from sale proceeds. An additional one quarter of one percent (.0025) of the market value per barrow will be deducted to be paid to the National Pork Board. Exhibitors are responsible for the health and protection of their barrows until the conclusion of the open class barrow show. No payment will be made for barrows that cannot be loaded in good condition. The Junior Fair Grand Champion Barrow and Reserve Grand Champion Barrow must sell in the Sale of Champions. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his/her animal until the animal is released on Sunday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. All breed Champion Barrows will be tattooed and sold at a special auction limited to these animals only. Sale order determined by drawing following selection of Grand Champions. The auction will be held on Sunday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m., in the Swine Arena. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to feed and care for his/her animal until the animal is released. All sales are final. No bid-ins or buying back your own animal. PENNING REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS Pens purchased through the Buckeye Barrow Boosters Sale at 2017 Fair must have penning assignments submitted by July 15th or pens are forfeited. Pens must meet penning requirements or pens will be forfeited. Penning is based on following exhibited entries per exhibitor: 1 Pig = 1 Pen 2 Pigs = 1 Pen 3 Pigs = 2 Pens 4 Pigs = 2 Pens 5 Pigs = 3 Pens 6 Pigs = 3 Pens Pen assignments can be requested beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 23rd at the Ohio State Fair Swine Barn Office. Call In requests may be taken after 3 pm by calling Swine Office phone. Waiting line/tickets for pen assignments will be available at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 23 NO early arrivals will be honored. All pens are assigned by the Swine Department personnel. Exhibitors must check in upon arrival with animals for correct pen assignments before bedding down. Exhibits incorrectly located will need to move to assigned area. If exhibitor fails to follow pen assignments, they will be asked to leave. 9

10 Pen space limited to pigs only. NO TACK or FEED in pens. Boards may be put across the top of pens for tack and feed storage. Pens are approximately 5' x 7'. All fans and cords MUST be inspected by a fair official in the Swine Department before being plugged in. Only three (3) plug prong fans will be accepted. When your fans and cords have been certified to be free of defects they will be sealed with a band allowing them to be used. Any fan, or cord found in the swine barn without the inspectors band will have to be removed. CLASS BREAKDOWN PROCEDURE The total number of classes offered in this show per breed may vary depending upon the total number of barrows shown in the breed. Classes will be equalized as evenly as possible after weighing at the discretion of Fair Management. Individual registration papers for purebreds are mandatory at checkin and weigh day. Crossbred barrows will be divided into dark (showing color pigmentation on skin) or other (showing no red or black pigmentation on skin) divisions. These divisions will be considered as breed classes and awarded equally. Any breed failing to exhibit a total of 16 animals in the market classes will be cause for evaluation of continuing this breed in future shows. GROOMING REQUIREMENTS Only water may be used, any oil or what appears to be oil or powder will not be permitted. All barrows must have a measurable 1/2" of body hair, underline included. Ears and tail may be a shorter length. Top placing animals will be checked for hair length at re-weigh. Any other barrow may be checked during the exhibition. All hogs in violation will be disqualified. Lower placing animals meeting requirements will replace these animals in placing order. AWARDS Junior Barrow Premiums Per Class $ Animals in each class will be placed on a etc. basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical placing. SALE OF CHAMPIONS Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows will sell in the Sale of Champions, on Sunday, August 5, 2:00 p.m. The animals sold in the 2018 Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions will have a top dollar cap as follows: Grand Champion Barrow $10,000 Reserve Grand Champion Barrow $ 7,000 Twenty-five percent (25%), or amount over cap listed above, whichever is greater, will be distributed among other youth exhibitors. These funds will go to scholarships, Outstanding Market Exhibitor Program, Outstanding Breeding Exhibitor, showmanship, skillathons, dairy cattle, breeding livestock, FFA, 4-H, Ohio State Fair Band and Choir, and endowments. OUTSTANDING BARROW EXHIBITOR PROGRAM A total of $6,000 will be distributed to first through third places in the Outstanding Market Exhibitor Project, with first place receiving $2,500 second place receiving $2,000, third place receiving $1,500. Sponsored by the Youth Reserve Program. Fourth through thirty places in the Outstanding Market Exhibitor will be sponsored by the Ohio Swine Youth Committee. The non-profit Ohio Swine Youth Committee is a support group for swine shows at the Ohio State Fair. Proceeds are generated from sponsorships of swine shows, the Ohio Crossbred Classic, and the Ohio Youth Gilt Show. BUCKEYE BARROW BOOSTER BREED CHAMPION SALE The Buckeye Barrow Booster Breed Champion Sale will be handled in the following manner. Ten (10) Division Champions and ten (10) Reserve Champions will be competing to be the overall Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows. The Chester White Swine Record Association, Peoria, IL, offers $ for Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds provided it is from a litter recorded in this Association and a picture of the winner and application for award signed by Fair Management, is received within 30 days following the show. The National Swine Registry, Mike Paul, 2639 Yeager Road, West Lafayette, Indiana 47906, will offer $1,000 to the Grand Champion Barrow (Overall) and $500 to the Reserve Grand Champion Barrow (Overall) of the junior market barrow show at the 2018 Ohio State Fair if this animal is a registered Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, or Yorkshire barrow. The exhibitor must have a transferred pedigree of the Grand Champion Barrow in hand at the time of being named Grand Champion.
