THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE EVERGREEN GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB April 2018 Volume 50, Issue 4 The April General Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, We will begin with the meeting at 7:00 p.m. (please note early start time!), followed by a great program at around 7:30 that should be of interest to everyone. Guest speaker Anders Thoreson, DVM will discuss first aid and touch on updated information on the canine flu. Please invite as many guests as you like. This is great information for anyone. Invite your friends and puppy buyers! Dr. Thoreson practices veterinary medicine at Mountain View Animal Hospital in Snohomish. He is an outspoken supporter of purebred dogs and responsible breeders, and is an approved AKC judge for Junior Showmanship. In fact, he was our Juniors judge at the 2016 Specialty! LOCATION: Woodinville Library Avondale Rd NE, Woodinville, WA 98072

Page 2 by Sheila Iturriaga-Colyer Specialty Chair Don't forget to mark your calendar and invite your friends! The Specialty is scheduled for Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Enumclaw Expo Center. We finally have official AKC approval for the events, and planning is moving forward. We still have several jobs open which we really need to fill. One of the perks of taking on one of the jobs is that you will be eligible to reserve premium RV parking, which is inside the fence with the rings. Please give me a call or send me an if you are willing to help out with: * Evening Tailgate Organizer * Grounds Chair - Transporting items to and from Argus (this includes four tents that OKC workers will help put up and take down, the raffle box and paper products for hospitality ) * Setup/Takedown Coordinator * Judges & Workers Lunch It's really important that we fill all of these jobs! Please call me at (206) or sheilacolyer@live.com with questions or to volunteer your help. Thank you!

Page 3 The Club had a very good financial year in The Donation Committee is now working on determining which worthy causes we should donate to. If you have a cause that you think is important to add to our list, please let us know. Some of the prior donations have been to: Golden Retriever Foundation Old Dog Haven Evergreen Golden Retriever Rescue Club Smiling Blue Skies Washington State Animal Response Team AKC Canine Health Foundation Warrior Dog Foundation Donation Committee Stacia White Sandy Scudder Kathy Fisk Volunteers Needed for Agility Trials As the new Agility Trial Chairperson, I am asking your help in putting on the 3-day trial scheduled for June 15, 16 and 17, 2018 and then a second 3-day trial on August 31, September 1 and 2, The Club has several events that we run every year, and most of them make a small amount of money or at least break even. The Agility Trials, on the other hand, provide the majority of our income, so I am really hoping some of you who participate in other areas are interested in coming out to help. You can come for a couple of hours, half a day, a whole day or every day! It is up to you. One of the main needs is for a Judges Hospitality Chair who will coordinate all the different aspects of the task. We need a person to pick up the judge and bring them to Argus Ranch (they will be staying there) as well as a person to take the judge back after the trial. Pick-up is Thursday and the return will either be on Sunday evening or Monday morning after the trial. A person needs to make breakfast for the judge(s) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am planning on taking the judge(s) out Saturday evening for dinner, so we need to have a person be in charge of their dinner on Friday night. I was hoping somebody living close to Argus Ranch would take this on. Besides coming to help, you will enjoy watching many talented dogs and their handlers in the ring. It is really fun! If you want to help, please contact Ane at (425) or anbrus@comcast.net Thank you so much. *The premium list for the June trials is now up on the EGRC website!*

Page 10 Save Our Dog Training Areas! by Nancy Light This is a request for EGRC members to send letters to Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife to restore dog training to the Snoqualmie Valley Wildlife areas. A couple of years ago, EGRC was involved with a group of field training enthusiasts to try and restore Cherry Valley for field dog training. That group has been fighting the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife over the past two years to try to restore dog training in Snoqualmie Valley Wildlife Areas. The WSDFW has gone back on promises made to keep the gate to Cherry Valley open for dog training. There is a period that WSDFW is accepting letters from interested parties about this subject, and it is very important for them to hear from the public about their interest in seeing these fields made available for dog training and for events. Here is a link to more information about the issues involved, where to send your comments (last date April 26), and information about the public meeting on April 24 at their Mill Creek office. How the West Will Be Won Two BIG GRCA events are being staged on the West Coast in the upcoming months. Please plan to support them in any way you can. You never know when EGRC may need the return favor! First up, our neighbors to the south will be hosting the Western Regional! That's right -- PacRim has stepped up to the plate and will be holding the 2019 Western Regional Specialty on March 29, 2019, in Albany, OR. Second, plans are well underway for the 2019 National Specialty, scheduled for October 25 November 3, 2019 and hosted by the GRC of Greater Los Angeles. Mark your calendars now!

Page 11 Gaylan s Cloud Nine, better known as "Ru," earned his Junior Hunter title in February in California. ~Suzanne Bolwell Along the road to Ft. Worth, Dolly stopped at the San Diego Specialty on March 16 and was Select Bitch under Helen Dorrance. From rainy Valley Center, California, Dolly continued on her way to sunny Ft. Worth for 4 shows. Thursday under Jane Jensen at the Dallas- Ft. Worth Metro GRC she was Select Bitch. The Ft. Worth KC shows were good for Dolly, with over 20 Specials entered each day. Saturday under breederjudge Jon Chase, Dolly wins the Breed and then goes on to a Group 3rd under another breeder judge Pluis Davern. Sunday under Pluis Davern Dolly was BOS. Dolly was also BOS at the Pacific Rim GRC show March 30 under Wendy Hamilton-Petkau, another breeder judge. I think it's safe to say breeder judges love Dolly. In limited showing, mostly at specialties, she is the #1 Golden bitch as of Feb 28, Dolly is home for awhile and is starting on a path to become a Reading with Rover dog in her spare time. Christian Rutten and Megan Honari do such a great job handling Dolly, and she loves them to pieces. I'm not sure there are words to describe how proud I am of Dolly. ~Susan Babich
