4 Great news! Helotes Humane Society just earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, the world s largest source of nonprofit information. By sharing these metrics, we re helping the sector move beyond simplistic financial ratios to assess nonprofit progress. We chose to display quantitative metrics such as the number of animals rescued and adopted and the average length of stay per animal to represent how hard Helotes Humane Society is working toward achieving our mission. We re proud to use GuideStar Platinum to share our full and complete story with the world. To reach the Platinum level, we added extensive information to our Nonprofit Profile: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; quantitative information about goals, strategies, and progress toward our mission. 5 Pet of the Month John Boy We Need Homes! John Boy was brought to us as a stray. He is currently in a foster home where he is entertaining the family with his antics. He is a playful, curious kitten. He'd love to come entertain you! A special breed dog needs a special home. Meet Chupy! Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless ) Mix Chupy is a 1 year old dog who has had a rough start in life. He was adopted from a large municipal shelter, but then his adopter abandoned him in an apartment when she moved out, leaving him without food or water. Chupy gets along well with some dogs his own size and energy level. (Meet and greet is required) He does not like small dogs or cats! He would do best in an active home with/without teenagers. He will need an alpha owner with breed experience that is willing to give him daily walks/runs/hikes and continue his dog training. No apartments, cats, or children under 12 years old! He will require special diet, skin and fur care. He is quite playful and loves his stuffies! He has some hairless spots because he is part Xoloitzcuintli. He is missing some teeth which is also common in this breed. You can read more about them here: Meet Minnie! She's a stunning two year old boxer/bulldog mix & she's 100% love. She's house trained, crate trained & knows the basic commands. She's great with people, loves kids & currently lives with 3 young children. She weighs approximately 50 lbs & would not be recommended for homes with children under 8 years of age. She doesn't get along with cats or dogs, so she needs to be in a one animal family. Her temperament is not at all aggressive, but she like's to be dominant, so the one animal family is a must. She cuddles and loves falling asleep in your lap. WINTER 2018 Tail Waggin Times Page 5
6 HAPPY TAILS OPEN THURS & FRI 10:00 am - 3:00 pm SAT 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Where animal lovers go to save! Shaenfield Rd. Donate Shop Volunteer! Cleo was brought to us in very bad shape. She was literally starving. A kind woman found her and knew she needed help. Cleo went to live in two different foster homes where she slowly gained weight and was socialized. We are happy to report she is now happy and healthy and found a wonderful family to be a part of. What a happy ending for this little stray! Sometimes angels are just ordinary people who help us believe in miracles again WINTER 2018 Tail Waggin Times Page 6
