2 Congratulations! Happy hounds and happy hearts! Congratulations to our new adopters! Princess has been adopted by Aaron, Jenn and Declan. Princess waited a bit for her special forever family and reports it has been well worth the wait. Happy retirement, Princess! Fire It took a bit of convincing, but Miss Fire worked her charm on her foster mom, Sara, and soon it was a happy family of four. Fire has joined Aimee (her brood mom) and Prince in retirement. Chime Chime is settling into her new home with mom, Suzanne. Word has it that Chime is also training mom about some of the quirks related to a leash and said greyhound! It's always fun to figure out the secret club lingo.

3 Save the Date! Roofest 2018 Date: Saturday, June 2, 2018 Time: 10am - 3pm Location: Frontier Park, Graham, WA Greyhounds available for adoption will be there! What You Need To Know: Roofest is an opportunity to come out to support the hounds! Whether you are curious about greyhounds and want to know more, or you are an old timer in the greyhound world, there is something for everyone. There will be vendors for all of your must-have's for your hounds. Collars? Leashes? T-shirts? Beds? Nutritional information? Health items? A professional photo or two? You name it, we will have it! There will also be games for the hounds and yummies for the human tummies after all of that hound huggin' and shopping! ***All monies received go to the support and care for the greyhounds.***

5 Did You Know? Greyhounds can reach average race speeds of 39 miles per hour. Greyhounds are an ancient breed of sighthounds, or gazehounds, which specialize in hunting their quarry by sight rather than scent. Greyhounds originated in Ancient Egypt and were originally bred to hunt large game including antelopes, wolves and deer. The greyhound found its way to America with the first English settlers. Greyhounds are also known as Galgos in Spain. Greyhounds appear to be the most ancient dog breed. Greyhound comes from a mistake in translating the early German name Greishund, which means old (or ancient) dog, not from the color gray. The oldest known dog bones were found in Asia and date as far back as 10,000 B.C. The first identifiable dog breed appeared about 9000 B.C. and was probably a type of greyhound dog used for hunting. Greyhounds are the only dogs mentioned by name in the Bible. Proverbs 30, verses The Greyhound was recognized by the AKC in A greyhound is known for having a field of vision of up to 270 degrees, which is quite impressive compared to us humans who have a mere 180 degree field of vision.

7 Volunteers! We love 'em! It takes a village to pull off rounding up and preparing the hounds for adoption. To name just a few open positions: ~ FOSTER HOMES ~ Hound Holders at Meet & Greets Haul Helpers Photo booth Easter Bunny, The Grinch and Santa Transportation (to get a greyhound to potential adopters or the vet's) There something for everyone so please let us know if you'd like to help out. Donations Just as it takes a village of people to prepare our greyhounds for adoption, it also takes a village of financial donations. We are a nonprofit 501(c)3 and rely soley on the donations to sustain our adoption group. A list of just a few things we always welcome are: * Full bags of dog food * Treats for foster dogs * Tag collars * Wire crates * Wire kennels * Auction items for Roofest And of course... cash $$$!

8 Calling All Greyhound Lovers! FOSTER HOMES NEEDED: Shouting out to Puget sound area residents. We have more recently retired hounds arriving in the Seattle area later this month and urgently need foster homes to care for them until they are adopted. GPAGNW pays for all necessary expenses including food, vet care and supplies. Please consider this choice volunteer assignment. It is more rewarding than you can possibly imagine and also a great way to "test drive" a Greyhound if you've been thinking about adopting. You won't be sorry!.
