6 Page 6 Issue 39 Thank you for your support: Nancy Mathias Petco Wanda Earnhardt Michael Britt Our medical costs are extremely high at this time, we have one sick little dog that we rescued that needs medical attention and we have 3 dogs that are heart worm positive. Your help is needed to help us get these dogs healthy so they can find forever homes. Tip of the Month Karen Guignard, Bark Busters Dog Behavioral Therapist and Master Trainer. Go to for more information BEWARE OF ICE. SNOW AND COLD TEMPERATURES. While many dogs with proper shelter can be safe in outside temperature down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, puppies, smaller dogs, older or shorthair dogs should not be left outdoors when temperatures fall below 40 degrees. Don't leave your pet in a vehicle during cold weather. A car in winter is like a refrigerator, holding in the cold and possibly causing the dog to freeze. Keep older, arthritic dogs inside. They should not be left outdoors under any circumstances. WATCH FOR SIGNS OF FROSTBITE AND INJURY Dog's ears, paws and tails are especially susceptible to frostbite. Initially, frostbitten tissue may appear pale or gray in color and the area will be cold and hard to the touch. As the area thaws, it may become red. In sever frostbite, within several days the tissue will start to appear black. If you suspect frostbite, bring your dog into a warm location and soak the affected area in lukewarm water for about 20 minutes. Contact your veterinarian.
