12 Accell Therapy is gaining popularity in greyhound recovery and performance, however many people do not realise the benefits of utilising this therapy with their breeding animals. Firstly though, a little bit of information maybe beneficial in explaining how the therapy works and the benefits in using it with your breeding stock.accell therapy is Australian owned and Australian made by CT Healthcare in Brisbane. It has a long history in human therapy spanning over 67 years. The therapy is used extensively in the older generations of our population for joint mobility, muscle issues and circulation problems.it is also widely used by major sporting clubs, Australian army, Australian Institute of sport and many more.this therapy has been tested and registered by the TGA as a Class 2a medical device. The benefits of this therapy include improving circulation and lymphatic drainage, relaxing muscles and improving nerve muscle communication, and Enhancing joint mobility and enabling a natural analgesic effect. This cycling vibration therapy travels very gently and very deeply through 4 feet of bone and 2 to 3 feet of tissue. This enables a very deeply penetrative benefit to all cells through muscles and joints to receive these benefits. This creates momentum in the bloodflow which does not peak until approximately 5 to 8 hours post treatment, giving ongoing benefits well after the therapy session has been completed. Once it has peaked, the benefits will slowly drop back over the following 24 to 48 hours so regular daily sessions are most beneficial. There are many benefits in relation to breeding that can be gained from using AccellTherapy. When a bitch is cycling the benefits of increasing the circulation and lymphatic drainage enhance the natural efficiency of all systems in the body and thereby improving hormone levels and regularity in cycling and all facets of the reproductive system function. We have found that many bitches that are proving difficult becoming pregnant, suddenly become more balanced and able to be impregnated. And additional benefit that is derived from the body working more efficiently and having higher levels of oxygen and nutrients supply through greater blood flow, is the health and well-being of the beach during the pregnancy term. Her ability to feed the foetus during the pregnancy is greatly improved her to her higher levels of health and well-being, making the gestation much more supported by her body. These benefits flow Accell Therapy through to the quality of the milk the bitch produces, to feed after whelping. Anxiety can be an issue leading up to whelping and the Tranquillsage setting on the therapy can be very calming at this time. It lowers the alpha rhythms in the brain to resting levels, thereby calming the bitch naturally. In the event of an Cesarean section being necessary, Accell therapy can be used to generate faster recovery times for the bitch and improve internal circulation and thereby internal warmth of the pups. This reduces the reliance upon heat mats for pups.the Tranquillsage setting can also be used for the ongoing recovery of the bitch whilst feeding to keep her calm and relaxed during this time. We all know how much benefit a calm mother is for raising young. However, it's not all about the girls. You can look after your dog using Accell also The same benefits from improving circulation and lymphatic drainage, flows through to sperm motility and quality from enhanced health and well-being and improved nutrients and oxygen levels. Any muscle soreness or back issues that the dog makes experience during mating can be alleviated and recovered using the therapy to best effect There is a wonderful opportunity to improve the overall quality of your breeding program using this Australian made therapy and dogs can be treated using a therapy mat without needing to sit with each animal during treatment. Due to the depth of therapy penetration through 4 feet of bone and 2 feet of tissue, simply placing a crate on top of the mat will allow transmission of the therapy through this structure to the dog. It works a bit like a conductor. This lets you get on with your jobs while your dog is receiving premium care. It also protects your medical equipment from a chewer or any damage. 14 Nationals Preview BRING ON THE NATIONALS The Nationals is Australia s most prestigious Greyhound racing event on the Annual Calendar, attracting the very best chasers from around the Nation. State pride is always on the line and participants love nothing more than to represent their state in the National finals. This year s finals of the UBET AGRA National Championships will be held at Albion Park in Brisbane next Friday night August 25. The two local Finals were held last Thursday night and a smart mid-race move by odds-on favourite Outside Pass allowed the Tony Apap-trained greyhound to take the Queensland UBET National Distance Final ahead of Big Easy Red at Albion Park on Thursday. Despite missing the kick and looking to be in trouble heading through the first turn, the black bitch would be within striking distance as they passed the post for the first time. Outside Pass went on to win in 31.8 with the ultrastrong Big Easy Red mounting a late challenge to finish second. Apap s other fancied runner Jalapeno spent much of the race in the back half of the field, before charging late to snare third and book a spot as an emergency. Champagne Sally will also gain a spot as an emergency runner after finishing fourth. The southern brigade look the major threats in next Friday s final (August 25), with Burn One Down, Fanta Bale and Ebby Ripper all enjoying runs previously at Albion Park. Tony Brett has eyes for just one box box one at Friday s 2017 UBET National Greyhound Sprint Championship Final draw, after Jury proved too slick from the same box in Thursday s Queensland qualifier. However, he was content with box three as the inside draw was what he was hoping for. Brett s runners made up half of the field with his fast Group 1-winner Thirty Talks being the best-backed runner to represent Queensland in the big final next Friday night. Jury pinged the boxes to lead the field from kennelmate Opal Nera (3), with Gunnadoo Rev (4) overcoming early trouble to hold third throughout the run. Gunnadoo Rev made a late challenge near the post but was unable to bridge the gap, with Jury winning in a quick 29.75sec. Both progressed to next week s final, with Opal Nera and Slick filling third and fourth to confirm their place as the emergencies Brett said Jury would always be hard to beat from the inside box. Boxes are a big part of it because there's not a lot between them, he said. To have half the field I was stoked to start with, so to get the winner and represent (Queensland) is enormous. Competing in just his 18th start, Brett believes Jury still has some improvement ahead of the big final. That s his third run back after a three-month lay-off so there should be progression, he said. He s just running nice and consistent so if he can keep doing that and draw a nice box, he ll be in it up to his ears. Jury and Gunadoo Rev round out the field, with qualifiers held across the country in the last fortnight. Major opposition will come from the Victorian pair Aston Dee Bee and Bewildering both outstanding sprinters with big motors. Next week we will have a full review of both finals plus a run through of previous winners of both the Sprint and distance finals.

17 2017 WATERLOO CUP LONGWOOD 26TH& 27TH AUGUST. Heather Villinger Coursing 2017 Old Country or Motherland. The form of coursing performed was live hare coursing which has been around for millennia. It was never about the demise of the hare and here s a quote by Flavius Arrianus in AD 116. The true sportsman does not take out his dogs to destroy the hares, but for the sake of the course and the contest between the dogs and the hares, and is glad if the hare escapes. From the late 1860 s to the mid 1960 s live hare coursing was conducted in Victoria. Today our courses are conducted with the greyhounds chasing either a drag lure or a trolley type of lure. Our sport of coursing continues today due to our ability to adapt and more significantly our greyhounds being sight hounds love to chase. Their prowess in pursuing the lure is second to no other animal let alone other canines. This coming weekend we celebrate our 144th year of coursing in Victoria with the conducting of the Waterloo Cup at the Longwood Coursing Club. For coursing enthusiasts the world over the Waterloo Cup is their premier event. It is the coursing event to win. Greyhound Racing Victoria and the NCAV are excited to announce that for the first time in our 144 year history the Victorian Waterloo Cup final will be seen live by those not on course. It will be streamed live on GRV s Facebook page on Sunday at 4:00pm. WATERLOO CUP WHY IS IT NAMED? The answer to that question is both historical and traditional. The founder of the first Waterloo Cup is William Lynn and the name comes from William s Waterloo Hotel in Liverpool. The hotel was demolished to make way for Liverpool s Central Station in 1869 but the name lives on William Lynn is also known as the founder of the Grand National, that famous jumps race conducted annually at Aintree. William along with Lord Sefton are synonymous with the commencement of coursing in England way back in The Sefton family were continuously involved with coursing in England for several family generations up until the 1970 s. Our early greyhounds were brought out from England and most of our Australian human population were of British decent, so it makes perfect sense that coursing and any form of racing was seen as a continuation of our traditional pastimes from the VICTORIAN WATERLOO CUPS OUR BEGINNING The first Victorian Waterloo Cup was conducted on the 14th August 1873 at Sunbury, the host club was the Victoria Coursing Club (which is still in existence today 144 years later). The winner was Mr W. Watson s red fawn bitch, Miss Heller (Seaman x Fly), when she defeated Mr D. G. Clark s fawn dog. Pilot (Pretender x Lady), in the final course. Coursing then was vastly different to coursing nowhowever, one thing remains the same. Coursing is a contest between two greyhounds, the winner moves through to the next round. This continues until such time as there are two greyhounds left to contest as final a winner and a runner will be the result. NOMINATION NUMBERS The event is open for 64 All Aged Greyhounds and hopefully our nominations will give that number a good shake this year. The number nominations will determine the number of courses the greyhounds will need to contest. If we obtained 64 nominations we would see the greyhound contend 3 courses on the Saturday and 3 courses on the Sunday. That is something we ll need to wait and see what our nominations are! HOST CLUB FOR 2017 The Longwood Coursing Club will host the Waterloo Cup for 2017 on behalf of the National Coursing Association of Victoria. Continued Page

18 Coursing Longwood The Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club are the sponsors of the 2017 Waterloo Cup. The Longwood Coursing Club conduct their coursing meetings at the Longwood Recreation Reserve withinthe Longwood Township. Longwood is a leisurely drive of about an hour and a half from Melbourne CBD. Head north up the Hume Highway with Longwood in between Seymour and Euroa. THE WEEKEND BEGINS This meeting as are all our coursing meetings will be conducted under the direction and control of GRV stewards. Coursing meetings are conducted in the same manner as any greyhound race meeting in Victoria. One significant difference is that greyhounds are not kennelled. They are kept in floats or vans with the trainer generally sitting quietly nearby. The greyhounds will course behind a trolley lure and will be released by the slipper. The Slipper has an important role releasing the greyhounds from the slip leads. At this point, the pointy end of the season, most of the greyhounds will have exited the slip leads at a previous coursing meeting and will leave slips thoroughly and confidently. WHO S UP TO THE TASK? This event is in reality a true test of the greyhound s ability, as it not only needs speed but it also needs endurance. After all, the two finalists may be competing in their 6 run in two days. It sounds hard and it is but most trainers have conditioned their greyhounds throughout the season to contest this event. This season has seen some very handy greyhounds course successfully. Sean Lithgow s Gotham Queen (Barcia Bale x Evie s Entity) has been a very consistent courser during the year. She contested and won a puppy event at Lang Lang back in April (3 courses),was defeated in the semi -final in the Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship conducted at Longwood in June (5 courses). She won the Oaks at Lang Lang in July (4 courses) and she coursed magnificently at Longwood two weeks back winning Burton s IGA Longwood Cup(3 courses). She has contested 15 courses during the season winning 14 of them. Gotham Queen hails from a very handy litter with Billy s Bake, Erupt Eve Lad, Lieu Knee Annie who incidentally was runner Up in the 2017 Sylvester Doyle for starters. Eruptive Eve lad coursed well in the Sylvester Doyle too. Malcolm Davis has a couple of handy contenders that have coursed well during the season. Malcolm is one of our stalwarts and knows how to prepare his greyhounds for coursing. Last Outlaw, Down Mexico Way and Sweet Spud are greyhounds in his kennel and ones to watch. Last Outlaw (Talk s Cheap x Not Genetics), like Gotham Queen is still a puppy in coursing circles but don t let that fool you, he won our two puppy classic events during the season. Last Outlaw was runner up at the first meeting of the 2017 season at Benalla (3 courses), he then won a puppy event at Lang Lang (3 courses) followed by a win in the Sylvester Doyle (6 courses over two weekends). He won the Derby at Lang Lang (4 courses over two days) and he was runner up last weekend at Longwood (3 courses) in all he s coursed 19 times during the season and he s been beaten twice (2 runners up). Down Mexico Way and Sweet Spud have both seen success at Longwood during the season, keep them safe! Annette Kampman has coursed her team at every meeting this year with her Tally Ho litter. Annette who hails from Hawksdale (down Western District way) has given her charges a real tilt at the big one. These dogs are fit as is Annette, all that walking to slips must do some good. Tally Ho Billy, Tally Ho Len, Tally HoLass and don t forget Catsford Allan (all littermates - Vee Man Vane x Granma Madge) have contested events at most meetings. Although with the exception of the Lass, all have won events during the season. The Lass has been a bridesmaid on several occasions however, she capable of creating an upset along the way. At the last meeting at Longwood, My Cousin Jim (Fabregas x Blossom Dior) and Dubovka (Cosmic Rumble x Bubbles Devere) both coursed very well winning their events for Daniel & Bev Pell. Last year s winner of the Waterloo Cup, Better Than This has coursed at two meetings this year Benalla and Lang Lang and won both events, so we hope to see him trying to match Zambora Blueboy s record winning successive Waterloo Cups in 2012 and Continued Page

19 Coursing Waterloo Cup 2017 continued There are other greyhounds that we hope see heading to Longwood for this grand finale of coursing meetings. Remember if your greyhound is run out in the first round of the Waterloo Cup it is eligible for the Waterloo Plate, or if your greyhound is run out in the second round of the Waterloo Cup it is eligible to contest the Waterloo Purse. Greyhounds of the ilk of Cullquin Bomber, Ido Voodoo, Pokemon Chase, Miss Mercy, Dami Gall, Provenance, and Menindee to name but a few are all handy coursing types. Those are the facts but this event can and often does turn up a winner from left field. Once the draw comes out on Thursday each trainer will know what side of the draw (Top or Bottom) they are on. FUTURE TIPS AT THE TRACK Of the many greyhounds that have coursed at our meetings several have turned the tables on their rivals when returning to track racing by winning or placing, when previously the greyhound had been out of form. Greyhounds trained by Ian Garland, Brian Fothergill and Robyn Massina had recent wins or placings after coursing at Longwood on the weekend before last. Here s a tip for all you punters out there, check the coursing results and watch for greyhounds engaged at race meetings within 3-10 days after they have had at least 2 courses. You ll be somewhat surprised at how well they perform and the luscious odds that could prevail. Hope to see the greyhound fraternity support our feature coursing event of the 2017 season. 25 S.A News

26 Amazing people AFTER more than 50 years in the greyhound industry it still never ceases to amaze me, just how many amazing people there are both inside and outside of the industry. With the increasing emphasis on the rehoming of greyhouns today, more amazing stories are emerging, this is one. Meet Lindsay, through her carer, Bronwyn Pulis Meet Lindsay... Lindsay is a sweet 3 month old blue female greyhound who is adorable in nature as well as looks. Lindsay is a special needs girl who I am hoping to find a home for her to live out her days may they be long or short. You see, Lindsay has been diagnosed as having a Liver Shunt. Before puppies are born they have different blood circulation which bypasses their liver and they use their Mum's liver to filter toxins etc. After a puppy is born these blood vessels close over and the blood begins to filter through the puppy's liver. Sometimes this doesn t close properly leaving the puppy with blood that is not filtered through the liver, so toxins build up. Lindsay was about 2 months old when she started to show signs of this toxic buildup. Luckily our vet picked it up quickly and did a special blood test which was diagnostic of a Liver Shunt. With a low protein diet and medication she has stabilised and is a happy little puppy again, although her growth is much slower than her litter siblings Lindsay was born to be a race dog but now we know she wont be strong enough. Treatment for a Liver Shunt may include very expensive specialist surgery which may or may not work, medical management, which is not a cure, or euthanasia. Dogs with liver shunts have a markedly shorter lifespan, maybe only 2-3 years, but sometimes longer... I cannot even consider the thought of putting this sweet girl to sleep, and the surgery is just too expensive for us. So for now we are medically managing her. I have approached GAP but they are unable to take her Our People as they could not afford to spend so much money on just one dog. (they could save a lot more dogs with that money) Rather than living her short life in kennels here with us I would love to see her in a normal home being loved and hugged. But be well aware it will be costly to care for Lindsay - she requires special food and medication and potentially frequent vet visits. And then there is the heartache of losing her when it gets too much for her little body and its her time to go. Its not going to be easy, but the love Lindsay has given me already makes me know it would be worthwhile. I know this request is a long shot but I thought I'd ask anyway. There are over 3,700 people in this group and I'm hoping someone may be able to help. We are located in Latrobe Valley, Country Victoria. And if no one can be found to take over Lindsay s care she will stay here with us and I will do my utmost to give her the very best life I can. Can you help? After much encouragement (nagging! Lol!) from the Friends of GAP FB page, Bronwyn I set up a Go Fund Me page to help Lindsay. I have had 4 people contact me about potentially adopting Lindsay. One family and their dog came to visit her last Saturday and they were very keen. They have gone away to have a think and will let me know later in the week. The Go Fund Me page link is as follows: $1,100 of $5,000 goal was raised by 24 people in 9 days. Let s see if we can help to make sure the target is met to help little Lindsay, and Bronwyn. One of the people who donated this week, said I hope my contribution helps this beautiful pup have a wonderful life. There are a lot of wonderful people who love helping you too.

28 BRED TO WIN Our weekly selection of greyhounds to follow, based on their breeding and recent performances WELSHMAN Black dog, September 2015, Oaks Road x Eumeralla Mist. Raced and trained by Derek Faulknall at Diggers Rest. Only raced four times for two placings but looks like he will improve with experience. Had three starts, Sale, Ballarat and Bendigo, before handy third over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP), 20 August, from box five when beaten 2.94 lengths in the race won by Seminole Wind (30.08). That was a good effort and certainly a sign of better things to come. AMERICAN HUSTLE Black bitch, June 2015, Collision x San Tan Maid. Trained at Packenham South by Geoffrey Scott-Smith, for Trent Anderson. Racing for the first time, from box two over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 20 August, when third, beaten 7.74 lengths in the race won by Fernando Express (29.75), who won by 4.5 lengths. Impressive start to his racing career and he shouldn t take long to get onto the winner s list. TIGER FROST Black dog, December 2014, Barcia Bale x Zsa Zsa. Raced by the K.P.B Syndicate and trained at Melton West by Brett Gatt. Had ten starts now for two wins and five placings, including last start, handy second, from box seven, beaten 2.49 lengths in the race won by Kalani Willow (29.92) at Sandown (SAP) on 20 August. Won over 545 metres at Ballarat (31.25) on 15 May and 500 metres at Bendigo (28.43) on 2 June. That was his first start at Sandown and he handled the rise in class very well, especially after having to try and across from the outside. Looks a likely type, who is on the improve with each run. 29 Letters to the editor Letters THE MYSTERY OF BREEDING DOWNTURNS Part 2 Bruce Teague GETTING BACK ON THE RAILS Last week s letter tried to make the point that the industry needs a giant shakeup. It s not that it has lost its way; the truth is that it has never had any other way. A few trimmings here and there do not hide the fact that the 2017 industry is running much the same way as it did 50 years ago. That s why it is not making the money it should. Consider the clues - the industry is fragmented, introverted and leaderless, administrators oppose change, basically doing what the last guy did, the customer profile has changed radically for the worse. and the TAB and foreign betting houses now own the customers and have all the power. Sadly, the world has passed us by. The proof is in the pudding. Greyhound racing has become a target for all and sundry. The public do not understand the breed or the racing, mostly because they have never been educated. That s not their fault; it s due to the vacuum left by the industry. Anti-racing groups are becoming more fashionable as each year goes by, lies and all. Racing (all forms) has lost its once dominant share of the gambling industry. Politicians are just not interested enough (except in a crisis, when they over-react). We are running out of dogs. And money is getting shorter every year, which is the biggest worry of all. I have been writing about greyhound racing for over 20 years, punting and analysing for much longer, sometimes to applause, but often to criticism and even abuse. Most of the latter comes from trainers who rubbish what I say, usually on the ground that I don t have any training experience so how would I know? Well, that s exactly the issue. I can t (and don t) talk about training but I can (and do) talk about the outcome of that training ie the race and the environment of that race. The main reason that I can do that reasonably objectively is because I am not a trainer. I am looking from the outside in, so to speak, and I come from a successful background in another industry so I do have some comparisons to make. Anyway, the challenge now is to come up with proposals that offer some hope of a return to glory. The basic plan should be to throw out whatever we were doing five or ten years ago and start again. It s not working, so trying to do it again will also not work. The guiding lights now have to be the two P s Product and Public. In short, we need to build a better mousetrap so that more people will buy it. To illustrate that, I will generally use the Victorian example, mostly because information is easier to obtain there and I have done a lot of work on it. First, the product must be something that will excite people, get them interested, be worth telling their friends about much as occurred when Miata was chasing her multi -win sequence and the newspaper ran double page spreads. So forget preaching to the converted; let s move outside the square. The main product issue is twofold: first, GRV and clubs run whatever trainers want and, second, the computer does not know how to schedule quality only quantity counts. So we end up with a hotchpotch to present to the public. Big mistake. Trainers don t buy the product, the public does. But the current mixture offers the public little to talk about. Promoters, if any, resort to repetitive waffle while the local paper either ignores it or risks boring people. Stuff like Restricted Event 1-4 Wins in incredibly deadening. So, first find out what the public wants and concentrate on that. Auto-grading systems cannot possibly be creative so they should come second in the pecking order. We first need an entrepreneurial push to develop ideas with each club and feature two or three races at each meeting which will best appeal to the public. To bring about some of those changes, more radical action is needed. Victoria now has mediocre races at the two provincial meetings in Melbourne and lots of mediocre races in the country. Why not scrub those city meetings entirely and thereby raise standards at provincial meetings? The bush would then have something better to sell as it used to. Indeed, provincial cities are much better placed to attract local attention than the big smoke it s cheaper to do it for a start. The other key to race scheduling is the grading system. Where once Australia had five well-used Grades plus Maidens we now have some 124 different grades/ classes across the country (yes, I counted them). Where once Grades 1, 2 or 3 were popular and worked well, they now barely exist. Every year someone adds another oddball Grade to satisfy some minor demand usually from trainers but never deletes any to make room. The end result has become meaningless. If something is confusing, nobody will bother with it. If there are too many choices, the customer will tend to make no selection at all. worth of runners. Why make it so hard? This is farcical, and made worse in Victoria by the liberal allowances for dogs to keep winning 5th Grades all over the state. Chuck it all out and start again. Now is a good time to make changes as the state and the industry are running out of dogs and have plenty of vacancies. There are more aspects of the product to talk about track quality, rug colours, cameras, viewing areas, advertising, staying and stamina, etc but I have taken up enough space for the moment and will leave them for next time. Thanks Bruce

30 Ken Carr Medal: Ron Hawkswell Legendary race caller Ron Hawkswell was awarded the 2017 Ken Carr Medal at tonight s 2016/17 Victorian Greyhound Awards at the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club. Named in honour of the late Kenneth Russell Carr, a leading Victorian greyhound racing administrator and GRV Hall of Fame inductee, the Ken Carr Medal is considered the highest award for excellence within the Victorian greyhound racing industry. RSN s Hawkswell has been calling greyhound races for more than 40 years, and his voice resonates with Victorian greyhound racing perhaps more than anyone else in history. He served considerable years on the Victorian Greyhound of the Year Panel, and his tips have long appeared in form guides in the Herald Sun newspaper. A shocked Ron Hawkswell said: To go to work and love what you do and be paid for doing is an absolute privilege. Ken Carr was a great administrator, and I really want to donate this medal to my parents, who supported me so much in my ambition to be a race caller. Ron s brother Allan Hawkswell said Ron was 13 when he got the bug for calling races. Our dad worked with horses on a cattle ranch at Springsure in Queensland and our relatives were all interested in horse racing, so the natural progression was an introduction to the racetrack, Allan said. At 17, Ron wondered if there was a location behind Moonee Valley where he could hone his skills on horse racing. After sussing out the surrounds of Valley, a fantastic vantage point was discovered. Ron and I would go to Moonee Valley in his 4-on-thefloor XY Falcon, plus plenty of food and drinks and a cumbersome open reel recorder, and Ron posted himself at the western end of Hunter Street (now a children s playground), Allan recalled. After each race, Ron would do at least a half a dozen replays of his call, highlighting the mistakes and occasionally berating himself usually saying I can do GOTY Awards better than that. Oh yeah, because the huge recorder was plugged into the car s cigarette lighter socket and used stacks of power, at half time the car had to be started and left running for a while to recharge the battery. That routine lasted a few years. Ron then took a job as a clerk at the tramways, however, after getting his driver s licence, the desire to be a good race caller was overwhelming and every Thursday night he drove from his workplace in the city to Shepparton to call Race 9, taking over from good friend, Ian (Sambo) Samblebe. That gave Ron essential on-air experience whilst working with 3UZ and 3SR, thus furthering his passion and desire to succeed. He then gained a calling spot at Wangaratta, driving from Preston to the north-east venue (at a financial loss) for a couple of years. When the Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club opened in August 1974, Ron applied for the caller s job and after fighting off some tough opposition, he secured the position. He is now a Life Member of the Cranbourne GRC. Greyhound racing has been a marvellous venture for Ron, who looked up to the late Bill Collins as a mentor. And while he has called many top sprinters, he always refers to four-time Sandown Cup winner Bold Trease as the best stayer he s seen, Allan said. 32 Rhonda Remembers New South Wales greyhound enthusiast Rhonda Singleton became involved with greyhounds in 2009 as a owner and racing them. Nostalgia E A R L Y E D U C A T I O N $85 Prevention is better than cure, right? With breeding numbers down by around 60%, and an estimated 30-40% of pups not being named, I would like to start a new service - early education. I'd like to see this become my main, if not only service. I feel it's a critical step our industry has neglected for too long, and with the poor percentages above, its important we become more efficient with what we breed. I'll provide details in a day or so, but basically this program is for 3-9 month old pups, with a minimum of 12 weeks to gain real benefit from the intense one-on-one education. But longer the better! There will be 6 stages of which your pup will go through, all designed to ensure your greyhound is a well-rounded, forward, confident and keen chaser, with his/her prey-drive fully unlocked! They'll still get all the standard rearing, but will also get exposed to the kennel life as well as lots of bullring, box and drag lure work. For older pups, at stages 4, 5, and 6, your hound will be a junior race dog, they'll even compete against another pup behind the drag and on the clock, so that'll be great for syndications to keep clients excited! With early and consistent positive reinforcement, I can safely and confidently offer a full refund on the extra service if (IF) your pup doesn't break-in. That's $15 per week refund, even if you use the full 40 weeks, or minimum 12 weeks. (*conditions apply). 33 VALE STAN CLEGHORN Tributes Melton Greyhound Racing Club stalwart, Stan Cleghorn has passed away at age 98. An integral part of the formation of the Melton GRC, Stan was a Life Member and past President of the club. He also had a strong passion for greyhound coursing and was the recipient of the 2003 Ken Carr Medal in recognition of his outstanding services to greyhound racing. Stan has been reunited with his beloved Lucy. A Service to Celebrate the life of Stanley James Cleghorn was held at Nelson Bros Williamstown Chapel, 81 Kororoit Creek Road on Tuesday 22 August. She then whelped a December 2013 litter, by Middlean Pather*, which has two named, Bigshow Jethro, who won five times with 16 placings and Mr. Magee, who only raced twice. In February 2015 she whelped another outstanding litter, by Premier Fantasy*, which produced Mayfair Miss, Miss Emmy Rose, Miss Morisset, Miss Torrez, Newcastle Ranger, Predemonic, Striker Shearer and Group 1 winner, Up Hill Jill, who have so far won 59 races between them and they are just 30 months old. She raced 47 times, for 13 wins and 18 placings, Before going on to become a successful producer at stud. She has winners on file from each of her three litters, whelped in January 2010, by El Galo, March 2009, by Where s Pedro, which included Where s Demonica, and December 2012, by Bekim Bale. It certainly has been a rough couple of weeks for John and the Geall family, and our thoughts are certainly with them at this sad time. It is always sad to lose a family member, and these two girls are no exception, have been family members for so many years
