I have been attending our B-Match since the beginning of time and never before have we had such a relaxed, good time with the best weather. The sun shone down and made us feel like we were transported to the tropics. Walking dogs on the Sandy shore of the mighty Columbia River with good Eats after the competition. I think the Group Photo shows the fun in the faces along with Singing... Singing you say?...those who were there know what I mean. Thank you Julie Galbraith for a well run event and all her helpers of course! We now look forward to our two Largest Events...the Licensed back to back Specialty weekend out at Champoeg State Park and the Hunt Test held on Sauvie Island shortly thereafter. I know the Committees (Specialty - Kathy Fagundes and HRT - Nikki & Dave Illius) are still looking for helpers so PLEASE pick up the phone or these folks and volunteer. We need you to help carry the work load to make these functions happen smoothly. What better time to learn what goes on in the Rally or Obedience Ring or watch the dogs work at the HRT??? Volunteerism is COOL... I like to single out a Club Member who has risen to the call for our Club and our Breed in General and who maybe has gone unnoticed. This month I have one Member who exceeds all expectations and tirelessly worked to help right a wrong. Our very own Judy Chambers is this month's Person. Judy was down at the State Capital working for our cause as Responsible Dog Owners and Breeders. The new Legislation is a run away train that wrongly suggests that all Dog Breeders are mistreating their animals in the pooling of reputable dog breeders with Puppy Mill people. Judy very eloquently tried to separate the Language of the proposed Law to make a distinction to those two entities and limit the damage that the new laws will have of too much Government intruding in our Lives. Pass or Fail...she was there. Hooray for Judy and her debating style! Thanks Jude for your time in representing all of us. The other news I have is the American Kennel Club has come out with the New Conformation Point System and so here's what I know. Kendall Herr will be replacement judge for the 2009 Specialty. All Breed ring stewards have been found, but we still need Obedience ring stewards. Trophy sign up was passed around. Ribbons will be supplied by Kim Dotson. B-Match: Julie Galbraith thanked the B Match judges and gave out the judge s gifts Specialty: Julie Galbraith reported on judges. Julie said that she is having trouble finding obedience judges. Julie also needs an obedience chair. HRT: Nikki Berthold-Illias reported that there will not be a double header at the Hunt Test. The judging panel is set. Membership: Kathy Fagundes reported on proposed new member Gretchen Hyde. New members Debbie and John Mueller were voted in. Working Certificate: Dan Neal reported that Renee Ivy has given permission to use her property. The WC will be held August 16 & 17 in conjunction with the Oregon Waterfowl Festival. 6 Hello again! I realized with my last request for stewards that I was not clear on which days! Obedience and Rally are only held on Friday and Saturday and you don't have to do both days. If you are only able to do one of the days, that would be very helpful indeed! 7 Rose City Labrador Retriever Club of Portland Annual Specialty Shows This will be our 2 nd year with two back back Specialty Shows. Thursday July 9th, 2009 and Friday-Saturday July 10 th & 11 th, The shows will be held at Champoeg State Park with Sweepstakes and Conformation on Thursday, July 9 th. Sweepstakes, Conformation, Obedience and Rally on Fri & Sat July 10 th & 11 th. Junior Showmanship will be on Friday July 11 th. Watch for premiums as they will be mailed out May 18th with a closing date of June 17 th. 8 Dog Story Submitted by Barb Gilchrist A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and sees a sign in front Of a broken down shanty-style house: Talking Dog For Sale. He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there. "You talk?" he asks. "Yep," the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says, "So, what's your story?" The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no Time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. "I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. "I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired." The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the Dog. "Ten dollars," the guy says. "Ten dollars?
