He lays his head on Evan's lap when he plays with his toys. Sits directly on Evan or my husbands lap and really watches tv. Watches and tries to help Evan with his homework. ADOPTION UPDATES Thank you!! Kristen Thank you to everyone who has adopted an animals and given them a new and better life. When you adopt you actually save 2 Uves, the Ufe of the animal you adopt which then opens up a space for another animal to be brought in for adoption. If you have adopted an animal from HS CAR we would love an update with a picture on how they are doing in their new home. We love those Roma, now Spohie and Nanuk, now Sammy. These two kittens were found as strays in the woods. They were feral but with a lot of patience and a lot of love they became 2 very loving felines. Brother and sister were adopted together and are doing great.

As the leaves start change in the days start to cool off our thoughts begin to turn to a night of goblins and ghouls. Halloween is a fun holiday enjoyed by kids of all ages from 4 to 84. It can also be fun for our furry best friends. When it comes to our dogs we need to take a few points of caution. The first point is that seeing is believing. A ghost is a ghost, a demon is a demon. This means when the kids dress up dogs can literally believe the make-believe. They can have adverse reactions and even become aggressive especially when cornered. So when you take your dogs to Halloween events watch her stress signs and don't put them in situations where lashing out becomes their only option. Yawning, shivering and withdraw (backing away) are classic stress signs to watch out for. If you see these or anything else that makes you believe your dog is uncomfortable keep them out of confined areas look for open spaces for them to have interactions. If they feel cornered they may feel no other alternative except to lash out.
9 Tip of the month continued Issue 50 Page 9 The second point candy! Chocolate is an obvious concern but even candies that don't contain chocolate can be hazardous. Large amounts of refined sugar from things like jellybeans, candy corn or taffy can severely upset at dogs digestive system. But don't forget that raisins are just as bad as chocolate. Take extra care when you have lots of candy out to ensure your dog cannot get to it. Also watch when the kids get home and put those big bags of goodies on the floor. Try to designate an area the house that extremely limits the access of the dog to store these goodies. The last point is unfortunately a tragic one. October specifically Halloween has always been known as kill a pit month. While it is horrific to think anyone would do such a thing for fun is an unfortunate fact of life. To safeguard your dogs routinely patrol your yard to look for bits of meat or toys that you have not left out. Do this before the dogs get outside because they will find it a lot faster than you. It's a common practice to throw bits of poison meat into yards that have dogs. Make sure your dog doesn't go outside especially at night without supervision. On Halloween itself take them out early then bring them in and put them up. Now that we've covered the bad it's only fair to give some good. Look to your local community calendars and pet stores for fun events to take your dog to. A lot of places have festivals that are designed specifically for your dog on Halloween. If you can't find one put one together with your friends and plan an event in your neighborhood where your dogs can go trick-or-treating themselves. To plan something like this do it earlier in the day and ask any neighborhood that does not want to participate to simply put a stuffed brown paper bag at the end of their driveway. For everybody else instruct them to get dog biscuits, jerky treats (for dogs) or safe vegetables like carrots or green beans to give out as treats. Let the dogs wear costumes and hold your own neighborhood costume contest. Let's try this year to start new traditions that are safe and fun for all. Wally Wimmer
