2 AGRICULTURAL Dear Friends, Welcome to the Coastal Carolina Agricultural Fair! A 4-County Fair a Carteret, Craven, Jones and Pamlico County tradition that, thanks to you, continues to bring together thousands of residents from the four county area each year for 11 days of fall fun! Over the course of the nearly 50 years the fair has been held, countless community volunteers and local businesses have worked together to bring you closer to our county s agricultural heritage, all while offering our famous schedule of rides, food, craft vendors, entertainers, bands, and home arts competitions. For many area residents, this is the kind of unique event where young adults, parents, and grandparents have been coming together every year since they were young. Around 25,000 people join in the festivities each year, and, thanks to your participation, we are one step closer to bringing even more of our neighbors together. As you walk the grounds this year, be sure to look for our volunteers and let them know what you think. We want to hear from you! 5 Premium List Rules and Regulations Procedure for exhibitors to follow in making entries: 1. LIVESTOCK ENTRIES: (see Livestock Division for complete list of Rules & Regulations for Livestock entries) a) Application for livestock entries must be turned into the Craven County Cooperative Extension office by 5pm on Friday, October 4, Call the office at for details. To check in livestock, go directly to the livestock barn. b) Livestock exhibitors must place POULTRY ONLY ENTRIES or POULTRY AND LIVESTOCK ENTRIES in the livestock Barn between 10:00am-6:00pm on Tuesday, October 15, Livestock exhibitors must place ALL OTHER LIVESTOCK (NO POULTRY) in the livestock barn between 10:00am-6:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, Entries should be halter broken and arrangements for the special needs should be made prior to entry. c) After any inspection of the animals, if said animal is found to be sick or diseased, it must be removed immediately and will not be eligible for any premium. d) All animals must be picked up Monday, October 28 between 10 AM-6 PM. Any exhibit removed prior to removal date will forfeit any premium awarded. e) Livestock will not be allowed into the livestock barn until inspected and passed by the health or veterinarian officials. f) Removal of livestock from pens or cages during fair operation hours is prohibited unless previously approved by the Craven County Jaycees Fair Association. g) Exhibitors with more than 20 livestock entries must deliver livestock by 2 PM on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, OTHER ENTRIES/EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS: a)reservations for educational exhibits must be turned in to the Craven County Extension office by Oct. 4th. Call the office at for details. b) ALL OTHER EXHIBITORS must deliver items to the reception desk and receive claim tickets on Tuesday, Oct. 15th (1 PM - 6 PM) or Wednesday, Oct. 16th (9 AM - 12 Noon). c) Claim tickets and 1 exhibitor discount pass will be issued to each exhibitor. Claim tickets must be presented to pick up items on Monday, October 28, d) All booth and individual exhibits must be removed Monday, October 28nd between 10 AM-6 PM. Any item not removed will be forfeited. e) Any exhibit removed prior to removal date will forfeit any premium awarded. 3. Except in case of conflict, all general rules and regulations will apply in each department. Some rules are repeated for emphasis and others apply only to certain departments. Please pay close attention to the general rules at the beginning of each department s listing. In the event a situation is not specifically addressed by the premium book, the decision of the judges and fair management is final. 4. All entries must be raised, made or produced within the last year by residents or landowners of Craven, Carteret, Jones or Pamlico counties; or students attending school in one of the four counties. 5. The fair officials reserve the right to refuse any entry. 6. It is agreed that any exhibitor placing an entry in the Fair, will be bound by the rules of the fair. 7. Reasonable space will be allowed to exhibitors to display their entries. However, Fair officials can refuse entries due to space limitations. 8. In classes having only one entry, one premium will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. If the judges determine that the entry is not of exceptional quality, the judges reserve the right to award no premium. 9. The decision of the judges will be final and no appeal will be considered. 10. The officials of the fair will withhold premiums in any case where it appears that fraud or deception has been attempted. 11. An exhibitor may not make more than one entry in each class. (Example: B is the department; B-2 is the class). a. If there is no class listed for an item it can be entered in the class OTHER. b. There will be only 1 OTHER class for each department and each participant. 12. Youth entries will be designated by a J following the department. 13. Exhibits will be judged on Thursday, October 17th at 9 AM. The building will be closed while judging takes place. 14. Every reasonable care will be taken to prevent damage to any exhibit, but the Fair officers and/or Cooperative Extension offices will not be responsible should damage or loss occur. 15. Each exhibitor will receive FREE pass good for admission only. 16. EXHIBITORS WITH MORE THAN 20 ITEMS FOR EXHIBITION, MUST ARRIVE AT LEAST 2 HOURS PRIOR TO CHECKOUT.

Booths will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. A space 6 ft. wide by 4 ft. deep will be provided for each booth. Each booth will be awarded a ribbon, with booths in each division competing against each other. Booths will be scored on the following points: 1. Creativity 24 Points -Idea clearly defined and shows understanding of purpose and direction. -Is the idea enthusiastically portrayed? 2. Communication To Viewers 24 Points -Does it arouse and hold interest? -Are the title and caption effective in conveying the message? 3. Education 24 Points -Is information accurate and factual? -Does it instruct/teach? -Is exhibit based on appeal to audience and does it tell how their needs can be met? 4. Design and Mechanics 20 Points -Is there effective use of color, lighting, sound and motion? -Are design, lettering, posters, figures, and equipment in a relative proportion to area and shape of booth? 5. Group Involvement 8 Points -Were at least (5) or more members involved? The following groups may enter Division I, Department A-1: 4-H, Department A-2: Youth, Department A-3: Extension and Community Association, Department A-4: Nonprofit, Department A-5: N.C. Forest Service, Department A-6: Other agencies. In order to register for a booth, call or write the Craven County Cooperative Extension Service (252) You will need to submit the name of your organization, contact person s name and address, title of exhibit and booth colors preferred (only 2). Premium money will be divided equally in case of ties between the clubs or persons involved. Adult Sweepstakes Award 1st: $ nd: $ rd: $20.00 In addition, the individual (in any competing organized adult group or club) having the most individual entries in the adult categories will receive a Special Sweepstake Award. Individual Adult Sweepstakes Award 1st: $ nd: $ rd: $10.00 SPECIAL YOUTH SWEEPSTAKES Sweepstakes Awards will be made to any organized youth group or club (4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, F.F.A. or church group) having the highest number of individual entries in the youth categories. Individual Youth Sweepstakes Award 1st: $ nd: $ rd: $10.00 Youth Entry Regulations Exhibitors eligible to participate are those girls and boys 5 to 19 years of age(except art) who attend Craven, Pamlico, Carteret or Jones County Schools. Except in cases of conflict, all general rules and regulations are those listed under adult department will apply. Some rules are repeated for emphasis, and others apply only to certain departments. Please read carefully! All entries will receive ribbons awarded on the Danish system; blue, red or white according to the merit of the product exhibited. Youth entries can be made in the same categories as adults. (The only exception will be in Dept. KJ & RJ Clothing - Youth). All youth entries will be designated by a J following the department letter. Adult and youth entries will not be competing against each other. 8 Livestock Division Livestock exhibitors must place POULTRY ONLY ENTRIES or POULTRY AND LIVESTOCK ENTRIES in the livestock barn between 10AM-6PM on Tuesday, OCTOBER 15th. Livestock exhibitors must place ALL OTHER LIVESTOCK (NO POULTRY) in the livestock barn between 10AM-6PM on Wednesday, OCTOBER 16th. Entries should be halter broken and arrangements for special needs should be made prior to entry. Animals will be watered, fed, and cared for while at the fair. Owner should provide any special feeds or medications Animals will be judged Thursday, October 17th. Only judges are allowed in the livestock area at this time. All animals must be picked up MONDAY, October 28 between 10 AM-6 PM. All poultry, where required by law, will be tested for pullorumy typhoid prior to entry by a NCDA & CS agent. This expense will be borne by the Fair. All sheep and goats must be tagged with a USDA scrapie ID tag. No mature, intact male sheep, goats, cattle, swine or horses will be allowed. Coggins Test (negative) documentation for Equine Infectios Anemia (EIA) must be available for inspection for equine. Each exhibitor is limited to a total of 30 animal entries. Each exhibitor is limited to a total of 15 Poultry entries. (Example: An exhibitor can enter 30 total animals, only 15 of which can be poultry.) No intact males allowed except for poultry. 15 2014 Fair Poster Contest The Craven County Jaycees and Coastal Carolina Agricultural Fair Association invites students K-9 from Carteret, Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties to participate in its 2014 Fair Poster Contest, and we encourage artists to be creative when they design their poster submissions. This is a great opportunity for you to use your imagination and begin to enjoy the fun of the Fair early. So, if you like to draw, paint, collage or do some other type of 2-dimensional artwork this is for you! If you have a child or student who is artistically gifted, encourage them to work on a poster image. Entries will be accepted on Tuesday, October 15 th from 1PM-6PM or Wednesday, October 16 th from 9AM-12NOON. Please contact the fair office for other times. Judging will be on October 17 th at 9AM. No entries will be allowed after 5PM on October 16 th. 2) The design should not exceed 14 by 17 inches (portrait format only) on mat board, illustration board, canvas or heavy paper. Format is up to the artist. Entries that are 17 x 14 high (landscape format) will not be judged in the poster contest but may be entered as another category. 3) Artwork may be created in any medium (may not be 3 dimensional) 4) Do not include the event logo, theme, or Fair name in the original artwork, as they will be inserted in production 5) The design may pertain to the fair in general or to a specific part of the fair. It must be non-commercial. If an identifiable person is used, a letter of release to all publication rights and royalties must accompany the design. 6) Individuals may enter more than one design. The rules are as follows: 1) The poster can follow one of the Fair themes; Ribbons, Rides and Rodeos, Meet me at the Fair, Eastern Nights and Carnival Lights, Purebred and Home Grown, or Farmiliar Faces and Midway Agventures, or the artist can design around a new theme. 7) Each entrant is encouraged to write a brief history of why they love art and explain their vision for the artwork.
