1 4-H/FFA SMALL STOCK DEPARTMENTS Eric Thoutt, Cochise County 4-H Youth Development Program Coordinator, Sr. General rules: Any regularly enrolled 4-H or FFA member who has satisfactorily completed his/her projects for the 2018 club year may participate in the exhibits and contests pertaining to his/her projects. Articles to be exhibited must be raised or collected during the current club year. Exhibits entered in the 4-H & FFA Department may not be entered in any other fair department. Leaders/advisors will be asked to certify completion of projects. Entry fees for small stock are $2 per animal/entry and are due at time of entry and no later than September 8 th, payable to Cochise County 4-H, 450 S. Haskell Ave. Ste A, Willcox, AZ Entry fees are not refundable. Go to and click the 4-H & FFA link, for further information and to link to online entries. MEMBERS MUST ENTER ONLINE BY SEPTEMBER 1st. Contact the Cochise County Extension Office (520) for information on SMALL STOCK exhibit areas. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Wednesday, September 26 Noon - 8:00 p.m. All Small stock will be checked into Small Stock barn after tattoos, bands, or tags match entry Thursday, September 27 7:45 a.m. All Small Stock Exhibitor Meeting 8:00 a.m. Small Stock Showmanship, breed judging to follow Saturday, September 29 1:30 p.m. Small Stock, Large Livestock and Supreme Round Robin Showmanship Sunday, September 30 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Small Stock Buyers Continental Brunch 10:00 a.m. Small Stock Sale 5:00 p.m. Exhibits Released GENERAL RULES See county rule book for complete rules. Each 4-H/FFA livestock exhibit must be shown by the person entering that exhibit in the fair. The Danish Grouping System will be used in judging 4-H/FFA Club exhibits. No premium monies will be awarded. HERDSMANSHIP A herdsmanship award of $25 will be awarded to an exhibitor who has been available in the barn and assisted with tasks as listed on the sign-up sheet posted in the barn. SHOWMANSHIP All showmanship entries are due in September with other fair entries. Members participating in the showmanship classes must exhibit their own animal, and that animal must have been shown in a breed or pet class. Borrowing an animal from any other person will not be permitted. Champion showmanship winners from each species are eligible to participate in the Round Robin Showmanship. Exhibitors who may be eligible to compete in more than one species must select the species they wish to compete with in the Round Robin Class. Immediately after each show, the Champion Showman (junior and senior) must notify the superintendent of the species and whether or not he/she will participate in the Round Robin. If the Champion does not want to participate, the superintendent will notify the Reserve Showman of his/her eligibility and sign the 4-H/FFA member up for the class. Only champion or the reserve (if champion declines) showmanship winners are eligible. RELEASE OF ANIMALS No exhibits will be released before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Exhibitors must check out with a member of the check-out team before leaving. Fryers must weigh 3 ½ to 5 lbs. each, broilers 5 to 8 lbs. each, and roasters 8 to 10 lbs. each. Birds within the pen must weigh no less or more than the amount specified. If any bird is under or over minimum and maximum weights the pen will be disqualified. The heaviest bird determines the class. Birds are judged on uniformity of weight, conformation and meat producing qualities.
