1 THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE EVERGREEN GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB August 2018 Volume 50, Issue 8 EGRC's 47th Annual Independent Specialty Show, "First and Golden," kicks off at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17 at the Enumclaw Expo Center. In addition to regular conformation, the show offers classes in obedience, rally, sweepstakes and junior showmanship. This show is dedicated to the memory of Wayne Miller, and you are invited to join us in remembering Wayne by wearing your best Seahawks duds. Obedience begins at 8:00 a.m., and sweepstakes starts at 9:00. The Silent Auction and Raffle is always a great fundraiser, and we hope this year will be no exception. Members have put together some very special baskets, so please come and peruse the wondrous goodies which could be yours! If you have items you d like to donate, it s not too late! Deborah will be putting together some baskets on Thursday night at Sheila & Ron s motorhome, so bring them by as early as you can. We have wonderful silent auction items as well...but you ll just have to come see it all for yourself! Susan Babich is planning a great after-show party, with a variety of tricks and treats. If you have any appetizers or other munchies you d like to share, please bring them to the ring right after judging is concluded. Let s have a great time connecting and re-connecting with each other. Many hands worked diligently to make this Specialty what it is, and hopefully you can find the time to acknowledge and thank those who give so much to celebrate our great dogs. If you see someone who needs help at the Specialty, please reach out and offer it. Let s walk away from this year s show feeling proud of what we ve accomplished. And let s party!

2 Page 2 WC/WCX Scheduled for Saturday, September 22, at Jerry's (17126 State Route 203, Monroe). The judges will be Sandy Rainaldo and Jerry Leitch, and we'll be using ducks on land and water. There is a imit of 40 dogs. You can send in your entry from the Premium, which you can find on our web site at or use same-day registration. Test starts at 9 am. Beginning with 2018, quarterly attendance records are now available for review on our website. It will be updated every quarter so please check it out to be sure your attendance at meetings and/or service has been recorded. If you feel that something was not recorded, please let us know by sending an to marian@ridesoft.com General Membership Meetings We will be switching the September and October programs, so September will be Golden Oldies and October will be Helen Dohrman and Trick Dog. A Health Seminar Day is being sponsored on October 27, 2018 by the Golden Retriever Club of BC. Please click this link for more details: I am very sorry to pass on the sad news that long-time EGRC member Marcia MacDonald passed away recently. Marcia was responsible for getting agility started with EGRC many years ago and worked hard to make it successful. She also served as Club President for several years and volunteered for many other jobs. She was a loyal and good friend, a hoot to talk with and I will miss her dearly. More details will be coming on her life and memorial service in the future. ~Nancy Light

It is that time of year when the EGRC Nominating Committee starts searching for members who would like to serve on the Board for the coming year. We originally thought this job would be a slam dunk as we would start by checking the back side of last year's renewals and see EGRC Board as one of your choices. Guess what, there is no such option listed on our renewal form. Sooooo...we will be informing members of this opportunity in several different ways. Our hope is that two people will step up and volunteer to be on the Board. Being on the Board involves one meeting in Kirkland (Pampiks house) the first Wed or Thurs of each month. Meetings start at 6:30 and end promptly at 9:00. The five Board members that are continuing offer a wealth of knowledge not only about our Club but about Goldens. 4 Page 4 Evergreen Golden Retriever Club July 2018 Board Meeting Minutes Date: July 10, 2018 Place: via phone conference call Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 8:02 p.m. by Nancy Light, President. Present: Nancy, Deb, Marian, Sandy, Ane, Shari, Linda Absent: Claudia Approval of minutes from last Board meeting- The minutes of the June 20 th Board meeting which were published in the July GW were approved. Report of the President (Nancy) Topics for the meeting include: Appointment of the nominating committee Replacement of two board members leaving the board. Report of Corresponding Secretary: (Sandy) - no report Report of Treasurer: (Linda) - no report Reports of Committees: Nominating Committee: Two board members are going off the board (Shari and Sandy) Deb Pampiks offered to take Sandy s position as Corresponding Secretary A motion was made to appoint Kathy Fisk, Sharon Colvin and Sandy Scudder as members of the nominating committee, with Sandy Scudder as Chair. APPROVED Events: Agility: (Ane) June 15-17, 2018; Aug 31, Sept. 1,2, The June event went well made $1, Ane will compare the revenue and expenses with Aug/Sept 2018 trial. At the Aug/Sept trial, we will decide if we will have a one or two judge trial next year. Brief discussion about what to do if Argus not available for A printed copy of the financial report will be presented at the August board meeting. Specialty: (Shari) August 17, 2018 Too many mis-communications among members working on the specialty and what each person was responsible for. Suggested everyone work together to make it a success. Bev Wallace of the Irish Setter Club offered to share expenses. She will talk to her board about it. 6 Page 6 JJ, Tillage s Feel Like a Rock Star, continues his winning ways. Three weeks, 2 Best of Winners and 2 Reserve Winners for. He was Best of Winners at Puyallup Valley Dog Fanciers and Inland Empire Kennel Association, and then Reserve Winners Dog both days at Hurricane Ridge. He is coming into his own and having a fun with Megan. ~Ron Colyer & Sheila Iturriaga Colyer Can. Ch. Rocklane s Crimson and Gray, Wazzu, was BOW at the Canadian National under Nancy Talbott to finish her Canadian Championship. ~Julie Matney

BEST OF LUCK!! WE LL BE CHEERING YOU ON! Verdoro's National Obstacle, "Willow," was Winners Bitch and Best of Winners from the puppy class, and then BOW & OH BOB at her next show. 8 Page 8 TripleTime s Perfect Storm passed his first AKC Hunt Test at the Salem Retriever Trial Club in Gervais, OR. We also had a great time the week before at the Coos Dog Show in Bandon, OR. We stayed cool at the ocean and Storm picked up Reserve Winner s Dog 3 of the 4 days. I m really proud of what he s doing at 10 months. ~Bobbi Miller Goldtales Lonesome Dove, "Gus," had a great day at the Canadian National. His second time in the ring, he went Winner's Dog from the 6-9 puppy class under respected judge Nancy Talbott. I was a very happy breeder/owner, that's for sure! Christian Rutten did a beautiful job showing him. Gus's half brother, "Brodie," owned by Nancy Hargreaves, was Reserve Winners dog. Beyond proud and super excited for Gus's future! ~Susan Babich

General Information General Meetings are held on the 4 th Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Check the calendar on the web site at The Board of Directors meets on the 1 st Tuesday of each month and members wishing to attend must call the President to state their business. Application for Membership: Prospective members must attend two meetings or functions before application of intent to join is accepted. Application forms may be obtained from Board members, the Membership Chair, or from the web site. Change of Address.
