4 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE This is going to be a very busy year for EISA. Your Board kicked off the year with a meeting on Jan 5 th and has already been busy implementing new things. We added a new member to the board Suzy Sullivan and welcomed back alumni Charlie Sloughfy. Please contact any board member if there is something you d like to see addressed. Check out the new EISA website at Easternirishsetters.org. Fiona has done an amazing job and keeps adding more content. Feel free to contact her if you have anything to contribute. Even old club pictures would be more than welcome. We are also on Facebook.. If you have something to let everyone know about that is a great place to post it. You have to join Facebook, but it s a great social site and a great way to keep up with what s happening in the dog world. If you are on Facebook, please like us and share our page with your friends. Starting Friday Feb 8 th we will be having an All Breed Obedience/Rally trial at the Meadowlands. This is a fund raiser to try and save our cluster. Please consider helping if you can. Even if you don t have experience, you can help. It s really not too hard to be a post! As an added benefit you will probably learn something and maybe even be inspired to try it with your dogs. The trial won t start any earlier than 10am. Just let me or Anne Marie Kubacz know if you re available. Feb 10 th is our Annual Indoor Specialty. We will be fund raising for the National in Virginia by running Leaping Leprechauns. If you have a few minutes and can help sell them it would be appreciated. Just ask a board member and they will point you in the right direction. March will see us back at New Brunswick KC with our supported entry and general meeting following Best of Breed. If you d like to bring a snack for everyone to share, I m sure it won t go to waste. We ll be talking about some important things like the Indoor wrap up and the National in April. Richmond is a very small club and is looking to EISA for help to make the National special. If you are going to the National please let us know if you d be available at any point during the week to help. There is a major need to help with grounds. Debra Hamilton is co-chair so talk to her if there is something you can do. May 4th will see us back at Bucks KC for our Annual Picnic and supported entry. Annual award plaques will be given out. Lydia Butler is our awards chair and will also co-ordinate the picnic. If you got a title in 2012 then send her the information. (Plaque application in this TOB.) July 21 st is our annual fun day, so put it on your calendar now. You don t want to miss it! Lynne Godshall and I are coordinating it again. We ve done lots of different things each year, so if you have something in particular you d like to do let us 4
5 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE con t know. September is busy with our annual picnic and supported entry at Somerset KC. Our field trial is Sept 14-15th and won t conflict with Somerset this year so consider going to the trial to have fun with the dogs and birds. There is a walking stake just for Irish Setters, so even if you re not sure about anything else this is the event to enter your dog in. You will get lots of help! We will be back in Connecticut for our outdoor show in October. It s always a fun event. Don t forget we ve got obedience and rally too, so if you got inspired in February you can practice and enter in October! Our wrap-up for the year will be a holiday party/general meeting at Karen Schwartz on Dec 28 th. I want to take a moment to welcome two new club members Meghan Sheehan and Judith Wright Please welcome them to the club if you see them ringside. EISA is always looking for new members so if you know someone who just got an Irish or just loves them please invite them to join. The membership application will be available on the website shortly. Remember, this is your club and there are lots of opportunities to get involved and have fun. I m looking forward to seeing everyone this year! Lynn Kwiatkowski Important Notice We have been looking for a member who is willing to update our website. At the recent EISA Board Meeting, Fiona Geiser offered to take on that job. Please go to: to see updated information about EISA. Fiona has done a terrific job!! WOW!! If you want to add something, just geiserfamily@msn.com Submitted by L. Kwiatkowski 5
6 A Dog s Life... Peanutty Pet Snacks! Ingredients: 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup peanut butter 1 cup milk 1/2 cup oatmeal 1 tablespoon baking powder Preheat oven to 375 degrees In a mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder and oatmeal. Once mixed, blend in peanut butter and milk. Stir it together until a doughy. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough and roll it out to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut the dough into the desired sizes and shapes and place on a lightly greased baking pan. Cook for 20 minutes. If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving him only two of them. - Phil Pastoret Have some photos or an article to share with us? Please send your articles & pictures to Fran at: sloughfyc@aol.com 6

10 From the Editor.Fran Sloughfy Seems like I ve been here and done that but being an active member of EISA is just a part of our life style! We re proud to be members of one of the oldest, and most prestigious Irish Setter Specialty clubs. Charlie is happy to return as a director; among his tasks is serving as driver. Lynn Kwiatkowski stepped back into the presidential role, while we give Mariette a break...but just for one year. We welcome Suzy Sullivan to the BOD, and we re delighted that she has field experience, which will be put to use September 14/15 at the Field Trial. But how many of you know that she is a fantastic photographer? Additionally, Suzy has agreed to take over as Editor of TOB, beginning in June. We look forward to Suzy adding her personal touch to the preparation of TOB. With our Indoor less than 2 weeks away, we look forward to watching our Irish performing in Rally and Obedience on Friday. Please take time to watch.eisa is sponsoring this effort, trying to earn additional funds to keep MSA possible. You might even offer to be a post. Later that same day, ISCLI will hold the first of its two specialties, on Friday, afternoon, followed by the second on Saturday. EISA will hold its specialty on Sunday. (Barbara Taylor Kloss will judge the regular classes, including BOB; Katie Shepherd will judge puppy and veteran sweepstakes.) It is always awesome to watch our BOB dogs enter the ring, and demonstrate why artists term them the most beautiful of all dogs with their rich red coats gleaming, as they gait around the ring. If you look at the calendar included in TOB, EISA has a full schedule planned for the year. Elsewhere in TOB you will see the list of Committee Chairs. The BOD is working hard to plan interesting activities. But we need your help, so please offer to work at a couple of these upcoming events. At the top of the to do list is updating the Constitution, and having updated and complete job descriptions for each Committee Chair. If you have suggestions, contact one of us on the BOD. We ll see you at the Indoor, and ringside at some upcoming shows 10
