In December we had our AKC Rally/Obedience Trial. A special Thank You to our Trial Chair - Arlene King, Secretary - Yvonne Smith, and our Raffle chairman -Sandy Lewandowski. Nice job ladies! You will also notice that there are new gates on the obedience side. These gates were made for Barn Hunt. Karen Haberkorn, Roy & Linda Schmidt and Carol & Jerry Block made all of these over the Christmas break!!!! Another thank you as having these 4 gates are part of the requirements for being approved Barn Hunt Trial. I look forward to a successful, fun filled year of dog training for all! At its annual awards banquet, NOCI recognizes titles and major awards won by its members by giving each handler/dog team a plaque listing its accomplishments. Each year the plaque is updated to reflect new accomplishments. As written in the club bylaws, this is what you must do to be eligible for a plaque: 1. Submit a written record of your accomplishment on an NOCI score report form. Score reports should be placed in the Woof Box in the club office, mailed to the awards chairperson (Judy Gemperline) or submitted online at tinyurl.com/nociscore. Score reports must be submitted by December 31 of the year in which the title was earned. If you do not meet the deadline, the club will not pay for the engraving/plaque. 2. Provide two services to the club during the last 12 months. Fill out the service form so we have a record. 3. Attend at least one general membership meeting during the last 12 months. Be sure to sign the attendance sheet whenever you attend a meeting. Due to the increasing number and expense of these awards, the club will be adhering to these guidelines very strictly. Associate Membership Next month when the renewal letters come out for NOCI membership, there will be a new type of membership classification which was voted in last year. It is called Associate Membership. It is a single membership for a person who may live far from the club or no longer has a dog to train. For a $25 annual membership fee, you will receive the Fire Plug newsletter and be on the Yahoo group site to keep track of what NOCI is doing. As an Associate Member you would not have dog training privileges or be able to vote in NOCI elections. For the people who fit into this group, you may keep your membership and follow the activities of your friends for a low cost. Look for it on the renewal form. If it lists you as a Single member and you wish to be Associate member, cross out the $75 fee for Single and put a check mark by Associate and enclose $25 instead. Any questions? 4 General Meeting Minutes (Note: There was no General Meeting in December; This is a reprint of October s minutes) The meeting was called to order at approximately 7:35 PM. Heide moved to accept the August minutes; Katie seconded. President: none. Vice President: none. Secretary: Get well card sent to Carol VanderMey who broke her wrist. Sympathy cards sent to: Carolyn LeMay-Strass who lost her dog Beauty and Cindy McElligott who lost her dog Chili. Sympathy/thinking-of-you plant sent to Betty Juergensmeyer on the loss of her husband. Lifetime Membership: Amber presented the following two individuals who are eligible for Lifetime Membership status: Tim Dyer and Claudia Daigle. Amber made a motion that Tim and Claudia be voted in as Lifetime Members. Gary V. seconded; all approved. Treasurer: approximately $139,552 which is an increase of approximately $31,000 compared to We have had a very cost effective and successful year. Applause! DOT: absent, recovering from recent eye surgery due to detached retina. Training Hall Secretary: sign-up sheets are out. We have a lot of classes already full. DOAT: none. 5 The Contact Zone Agility Trial 2015: Charisse advised that the Barrington site we were pursuing was up for sale, and we could not secure a contract there for That being said, we will have our 2015 trial at the McCook site. It will offer the same 3 days (Fri-Sun) and 2 rings. New Business: none. By Debbie Butt Old Business: Kudos to Karen and crew on the beautifully remodeled bathrooms, Ed and crew on the great paint job, and it was noted the nicely done pictures. 6 Nose Work News Nose Work teams are preparing for the upcoming trial season that begins the end of February with many NOCI teams competing at a NW 3 trial in Joliet. In March there is a NW 1 trial in Iowa and then we move on to Wisconsin for many opportunities during April and May. In Wisconsin, we will have NW 2 and NW 3 trials as well as several Element Specialty trials. Element Specialty trails are new to Nose Work. In a NW trial, a team must pass all 4 elements (interior, exterior, vehicle and container) in one day to title. At an Element Specialty trial, each team can title by passing 3 to 5 searches in one element. One other advantage to an Element Specialty trial is that it only takes a half day to complete a trial. We are also preparing to start another beginner (Intro to Nose Work) class to be offered in the evening. More details will be coming. We had a very successful raffle once again this year.
