As you can see from the beautiful display of crocuses above, all their hard work paid off! VILLAGE HISTORY... May Day 1930s The school children of Bucknell would vote for their May Queen and May King, a Page and two Maids of Honour. On the day of the festival, a church service would be held, followed by a procession of the children around the village, visiting the Manor, Rectory and Old Rectory, where the Queen would be crowned and presents given to the main "actors". The afternoon would be spent dancing round the maypole and singing songs, followed by tea at the Rectory. at Brill! of the Month, has a new home UPDATE! Beau, last issue's Dog Looking for a New Home Brewster is an approximately four year old Rottweiler/Mastiff cross.

Rightly so, Brewster can be weary of new people, but it will only take a matter of moments before his barrier is down and he s bouncing around you, trying to give you a big, sloppy kiss.

He enjoys nothing more than going for long walks in the countryside, chasing butterflies and eating blackberries!

Brewster is great with other dogs, but we ve been unable to trial him with cats as of yet. Sadly, Brewster has already had two failed rehomes as they have just not been the right home for him.

He came from a very volatile household, regularly being beaten and abused, and has now been with Ardley Rescue Kennels since March Rightly so, Brewster can be weary of new people, but it will only take a matter of moments before his barrier is down and he s bouncing around you, trying to give you a big, sloppy kiss. Brewster s appearance can mean he is misunderstood very easily, but this boy is a very loyal and loving young man. He enjoys nothing more than going for long walks in the countryside, chasing butterflies and eating blackberries! He may look big and scary, however all he wants is a sofa to lay on and a lap to rest his head on, providing you rub his tummy at the same time, of course. Brewster is great with other dogs, but we ve been unable to trial him with cats as of yet. Sadly, Brewster has already had two failed rehomes as they have just not been the right home for him. We are looking for somebody who has the time and patience to give Brewster the loving, forever home he deserves, somebody who understands him and larger breed dogs. Bucknell Quiz Night Thank you to everyone who had a great night out at the Bucknell Greece Quiz Night in March. The village hall almost had the roof brought down by the fantastic quiz, the delicious food and the great company. Congratulations to the winning team who auctioned their prize-winning box of Milk Tray in a furious bidding war which raised even more funds. WREN Funding Thanks to all your letters of support and those who completed our online survey, our application for funding to WREN (an organisation that awards grants for projects within 10 miles of a landfill site) was successful. We plan to replace items in the playground area; improve the external pathway; install a six station trim trail around the perimeter of the field; and provide a permanent table tennis table. We have a few administrative tasks to complete, but our aim is to have the work completed before the school summer holidays begin. WE NEED YOU! If you d like to support the village playing field and be part of a small friendly group of parents, please come and join the Bucknell Playing Field Association. We are a newly registered charity and run a few fundraising events every year to keep the playing field open for everyone to enjoy. 5 MEET 15FT MEGAWATTASAURUS! Recycling Visit & Competition We are holding a competition for 8-11 year olds and year olds to recycle a piece of rubbish into something useful and reusable. To give you some inspiration and teach you more about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling, we have organised a trip to the visitor centre at Viridor incinerator, Ardley on 14 August 2018, where you will see this magnificent dinosaur made entirely from rubbish. This visit is available FREE of charge to anyone aged eight years and over, including ADULTS, but you will need your own transport. Problem of the month: flooding The exceptional rain we experienced at the end of March/beginning of April sadly resulted in several gardens and houses in the village being flooded once again. Thames Water worked through the night to clear the drains of grease and fat and foreign objects, and explained that the pump system at Lower Farm had BIN IT, DON'T BLOCK IT been unable to cope with the vast amount of rainwater. What a Load of Rubbish The persistent wind, rain and snow we experienced a few weeks back meant that those of us who are still using blue recycling boxes instead of blue wheelie bins found our rubbish strewn around the village before the bin-men arrived to collect it. If you are currently using a blue box, you can upgrade to a blue bin FREE of charge by calling The blue bins come in two sizes: the standard 240 litre and the smaller 140 litre for those who have limited storage space. We love our village, so please let s try and keep it looking pretty and tidy! Thank you.
