1 OP SHOP NEWS The Anglican Parish of Lara with Little River Op Shop Newsletter March 2019 Op Shop Management Committee Committee Members comprise Reverend Shirley (Chairperson), Robert Hanlon, (Shop Coordinator), Lee-Allan Urbanski (Treasurer), Irene Haustorfer, Cynthia Roseburgh, Janeene Barry and Bill O Brien (Secretary). 2 Useless or unwanted items Volunteers may be asked by Customers as to which items our Shop accepts. Broadly speaking, we do not accept: Christmas trees, lights, decorations mattresses, electrical goods, furniture, helmets, baby capsules, car booster seats, televisions, prams, strollers etc. This information is clearly shown on the exterior sign near the front door. In addition, we find cushions, standard crockery, VCR and audio tapes are a problem. If it looks like trash, it probably is! Stale Stock In an effort to identify stale stock clogging up our racks, a colour coding system has been introduced. For the period of this Autumn season, all clothing going out on the racks is to have a yellow card attached to the tag. This will identify it as Autumn 2019 stock. The first letter of the month is also to be shown. Lara s Big Shed The big shed has been erected thanks to the boys from the Masonic Lodge. Expander foam has been applied to the edges to keep out the water. Flooring of wooden pallets and boards, plus shelving is to be provided shortly. Doll s House relocation Shop Hours You will be aware that the Shop Hours are 9.00am to 4.00pm Tuesday to Friday and 9.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. You are requested to sign on and off at each shift in a book which is situated at the front desk. At the start of your shift, please use the lockable lockers provided for the storage of your personal items whilst on duty. What if I can t make it? Please ring and advise our Op Shop Coordinator if by chance you cannot carry out your rostered shift. The Op Shop phone number is What happens on Mondays when we are closed? Although we are closed on Mondays, on that day, the Church operates a Food Ministry between the hours of 10.00am and 1.00pm for those people who need a little help! You are welcome to refer people, who are genuinely in need, to this service The doll s house, which is used to house items en route to the Recycling Centre, is now situated next to the side fence.

3 Rainbow Bag procedures. Rainbow Bags are used to convey unwanted items to the Recycling Centre. Please do not overfill the bags, nor tie the handles together, as the bags are recycled. Plastic items go in separate rainbow bags to permit recycling. Metal items do not go in these bags but rather go on the metal pile next to the fence. Scrappy John takes away the metal on a regular basis. Our Volunteers We have thirty volunteers who make our shop tick. Your efforts are much appreciated! Recycling Bins for card board Two large paper and card board recycling bins have been provided. They are to be left near the rear door, on the top of the hill, to allow the access that is required by the removal truck. Please remember that strictly only paper and cardboard go in these bins. Diary Dates for later in the year. It is planned to hold our popular Op Shop Fashion Parade on Thursday 4 th July. Our annual Night at the Op Shop is proposed for Thursday 26 th September. De- Cluttering We had mountains of donations in January as customers de-cluttered their homes (see our cartoon). Our main aim is to sell these items from our Shop where we can. During this month we despatched to Melbourne Cleaning Cloths a record 3361 kgs of cloths and 464 kgs of shoes which were excess to our needs. Nungalinya College Darwin At the request of our Shop Committee, Parish Council approved the forwarding of the sum of $2500. Nungalinya College is a Combined Churches College training indigenous ministers and leaders. We have supported this for many years. Movie Night Our next movie night will is on Tuesday 12 th March at St Mary s Parish Centre starting at 7.15pm. The movie is called Florence Foster Jenkins. It costs $15 with supper provided. Tickets from Bill. Anglican Networks Meeting Our next Networks Meeting, which is a meeting of all Op Shops, will be held on Monday 27 th May at Christ Church Essendon starting at 10.30am. It is a good chance to hear what other Op Shops are doing. Lunch is provided. Let Robert know if you would like to go.
