1 Lowell Parks & Recreation Connection THE RECREATION CONNECTION FALL & WINTER 2018 The Lowell Parks & Recreation Department will continually strive to serve as the center of the community by providing all citizens with positive leisure and recreational experiences! LIL CHEFS Calling all 6-12 year old little chefs...learn basic culinary skills and kitchen safety while preparing meals with Chef Delgado! Students will prepare a dish each time we meet during this four week course. We are offering 2 courses this season. Classes will be split into 2 age groups to accommodate skill levels. LIL CHEFS 6-8 year olds Dates: Wednesdays 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24 Time: 5pm - 6:15pm Place: Lowell VFW Fee: $65 res/ $70 non-res Registration Opens: 9/5/18 Registration Deadline: 9/26/18 Participants: 8 min/12 max LIL CHEFS 9-12 year olds Dates: Wednesdays 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24 Time: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm Place: Lowell VFW Fee: $65 res/ $70 non-res Registration Opens: 9/5/18 Registration Deadline: 9/26/18 Participants: 8 min/12 max SHELTER RESERVATIONS A few dates are left for 2018! We rent shelters at Evergreen Park, Liberty Park, Freedom Park, the gazebo at Old Towne Square and our. Please contact us for more information about our shelters and parks! Reservation books open on January 2, 2019 for 2019 reservations. Shelter permits are filled on a first come, first served basis at the park office. BUMPER BOWLING A GREAT FIRST ACTIVITY FOR 2-5 YEAR OLDS! We will meet on Tuesdays at 1 pm at Lowell Country Lanes for 6 weeks of bowling! This is an introduction to bowling program for pre-school aged children. It is a fantastic way for your child to make new friends and socialize with peers. Fee includes one game each time we meet, shoe rental for parent & child with an end of season pizza party and a trophy. Fee: $45 res/ $50 non-res Session 1: October 16th November 20th. Pizza & award party December 5th Registration Opens: 9/5/18 Registration Deadline: 10/10/3/18 Session 2: February 6, March 13, Pizza & award party April 3, 2019 Registration Opens: 12/4/18 Registration Deadline: 3/25/19 We are always in need of volunteers! Seeking people to: coach youth soccer, help at community events, beautification projects and more. Think of us for your required community service hours from your schools, clubs and organizations.
2 Page 2 Lowell Parks & Recreation Connection Halloween Hoopla Saturday, October 27th Liberty Park is located on the West end of town between Liberty, Main and Washington Streets. Youth 12 and under are invited to join us for our annual costume contest and Monster March! This is a free community event! No pre-registration required. Costume Contest: Registration begins at 11 am, Judging begins at 11:30 am 1st 3rd place prizes are awarded in each category. Categories: Scariest, Funniest, Most Original and Best Character Monster March: Youth will leave Liberty Park at 12 noon, following the Great Pumpkin through Lowell s downtown district to collect treats! *Please bring something to collect your treats! We invite and encourage our local businesses, organizations and clubs to participate in this community event! Spots are available on our route. Reserve one with us! THIS EVENT IS HOSTED AT FREEDOM PARK BARK PARK CLINE AVENUE LOWELL, IN Barktoberfest This is a family, dog friendly event hosted at Freedom Park Dog Park. Help support Relay for Life, Lowell Woman s Club and your local dog park! We will have several pet and people friendly vendors at this years Barktoberfest! Rescue groups, businesses, and civic organizations are encouraged to attend. Demonstrations include area agility groups, K-9 officers & sheep herding demonstration. Participate in our pet blessing, pet costume contest and raffle! Check out Barktoberfest 2018 on Facebook for the event schedule. Bark for Life Event with Relay for Life This is a fundraiser event for owners and their canines to support the American Cancer Society. A walk through Freedom Park is planned for this year! We offer acres of beautifully landscaped fenced property for your canine companions to gather and enjoy! Rules and forms can be viewed & printed at under Parks Dept. Bark Park Forms. Memberships are sold at the Lowell Park Office during business hours.
3 Lowell Parks & Recreation Connection Page 3 Senior Events at Lowell Library The Lowell Parks Department and Lowell Public Library meet once monthly with our local senior citizens at the library. All of our events are free to attend. Please contact the Park Office at to reserve your spot. Senior Happenings September December 2018 September 6 11am Movie! Bring a bag lunch. We will provide the movie, drinks, popcorn and candy. Please phone us for the movie title. October 4 11am BINGO! We will provide drinks and dessert. November1 11am Crafts! Make a holiday craft to keep or to give as a gift this upcoming season. Due to supplies this session is limited to 48 participants. We will begin taking reservations for our Annual Holiday Luncheon at this event. Please see below for more information about our annual Holiday Luncheon reservation process. December 6th 11am Holiday Luncheon!! Lowell High School Show Choir is scheduled to perform. Seniors who attend the November 1st craft event will have the first opportunity to make reservations for our luncheon. Public reservations will begin November 2nd at 9am by phoning the Park Office. Please Note: Due to a high demand of attendees we ask that you honor a 2 person per reservation limit. We appreciate your understanding in keeping the process fair! Memorial Bricks and Trees.A way to honor the special people, pets and events in our lives! Memorial Bricks Do you have a loved one that you would like to honor? A person who is hard to buy for? An anniversary or event that you would like to make a mark in history with? We offer engraved bricks that will be placed into our Freedom Park Memorial Brick Walk. Each 4 by 8 brick can be engraved with 3 lines of text. Bricks are $35 Donate A Tree Would you like to give a gift that keeps on giving? This is a great way to remember someone for many years to come. We have a list of trees that you can donate & plant at Freedom Park. For a list of approved trees, please contact us. 15 by 8 Memorial brick markers for your tree donation available. Archery Classes Instruction from hunter safety instructors at Riverside Archery Range. Classes are open to 6 years old and up. This is a great program for parents and kids to do together! We supply all of the equipment. Dates: January 5,19, 26 & February 2, 9, 16 Times: Saturdays Class times offered: 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm Place: Riverside Archery Range Sumava Resorts Fee: $55 Registration will take place at the park office and Riverside Archery Range.

This event is free to attend. No registration necessary. Hunt begins promptly at 2pm! 6 Page 6 Lowell Parks & Recreation Connection Parks Soccer League Spring 2019 Program Summary Youth ages 4-14 ( No younger than 4 years of age on 4/8/19 and no older than 14 years of age on 4/8/19 ) can join our co-ed recreational soccer league. Spring Season Details Practices begin the week of April 8th. Teams will practice twice weekly with games played on Saturdays April 20th-June 1st. Fee: $55 res/$60 non-res Divisions by age Pee-Wee 4 & 5 Intermediate: 6 & 7 Junior: 8-10 Major: * Majors players are drafted onto teams each season. All Majors Players ( year olds ) will need to bring a birth certificate to registration. League Volunteers needed! Coaches, assistants & team parents are needed. All league volunteers will receive early registration priority. Intent to coach must be made by December by contacting the league director at recdirector@lowell.net Early Registration for league volunteers will take place at the park office the week of January 21st during office hours. Contact the park office prior to December14th if you are interested in being a league volunteer. Public Registration League player registration will be held Friday February 22nd 6pm 8pm and Saturday February 23rd 9am -11am at the Lowell Town Hall. Note: Teams will fill on a first come first served basis. We can not guarantee team and practice time availability. Proof of age is only mandated for the year old division. If teams do not fill at public registration, remaining spots will be filled at the park office during office hours. Referees Must be 16 years of age.
