Pew News In the May magazine I appealed to you all to give the Church your help and support with our fund raising programme - well you certainly have got the campaign off to a good start. The Church was certainly alive the weekend of the Open Gardens! Luckily it didn't rain so the many visitors to the Village were able to enjoy the ten lovely gardens that were open, and the excellent tea and cakes in the Church. Thank you so very much to everybody who was involved in any way with all the hard work - The Gardeners - the Caterers - the Plant Sellers; and then the Concert! The Church was full; the youngest member of the audience was 5 weeks old!! It was absolutely great to welcome the Military Wives Choir from Chicksands, and their families. The young School contingents were great too with their lovely songs. This Village is so blessed with talent, be they violinists, singers, tellers of funny stories cake makers or washer-uppers!!! The M.C. was a funny man too!!! So, a very special thank you to everyone who came to help us raise 1,300 plus. Since I wrote we have enjoyed, as I predicted, Kathy's talk about her experiences as an Edwardian Lady in the closing ceremony of the Olympics. It really was quite a commitment, but she had fun, so did we listening to some of her tales. The June Coffee and Chat was well attended, including a couple from the U.S.A who I'm sure came over just to have coffee with us! Programme of summer events:- 28th June : Armchair Travellers 'Around the World in 48 days' by Christopher and Sally. 20th Sept : Wine Walk. Oct : Armchair Traveller evening. 16th Nov : Steve Curtis Rock Concert. Please look out for posters and flyers as there is no August magazine and we do not want you to miss anything!! Mid June we shall delight in a Marriage and a Baptism, and enjoy sharing these happy occasions with the families. SUE HAYHURST - Churchwarden ( ) -2-

THANK YOU I would just like to add my Thank You's to all those brilliant and brave soloists at the Open Gardens Concert on Sunday 9th June. We were not only entertained and kept in order by Bruce Sheasby, MC, but had lots of rousing singing too, Proms style with flags waving. A big, big thank you, not only to our local Military Wives Choir but also to Christine Gage at Campton Lower School for teaching the children so they could join in on the finale with their mums! I don't think there was a dry eye in the church. JOY CURTIS Campton & Chicksands Parish Council Garden Waste Central Bedfordshire Council provides each household with two green reusable bags for garden waste, which are collected fortnightly on the same day as the reusable waste collection. What goes in your green garden waste bags? Grass cuttings, plants & weeds, flowers, prunings, hedge clippings, leaves & bark, vase plants, pond plants. There is a 10Kg weight limit for each bag. Please use your green garden waste bags for grass cuttings, and do not tip your grass cuttings into a ditch or on a grass verge. Would you like to volunteer to be a Parish Councillor? A former parish councillor has recently moved away from Campton, and we are, therefore, looking for a resident who is willing to be co-opted to the Campton & Chicksands Parish Council. Currently all councillors are from Campton. Is there anyone from the Chicksands side of the parish who would be interested? Please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council, Deryck Irons on or Deryckirons@aol.com The next Parish Council meeting will take place on Wednesday 3 rd July, 7.45 pm in the Village Hall. There is no Parish Council meeting scheduled for August CAROL SAWYERS - Chairman, Campton & Chicksands Parish Council -3-

CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL DO YOU WANT TO PROTECT YOUR ELECTORAL REGISTRATION DETAILS? DO YOU WANT TO STOP COMMERCIAL COMPANIES HAVING ACCESS TO YOUR DETAILS ON THE ELECTORAL REGISTER? Important changes to your details on the electoral register From October this year there will be changes to the way that you can protect your details on the electoral register should you not wish them to be sold to third parties. There are two versions of the electoral register the full register, which only certain organisations can access and the edited register, which anyone can buy. Your details will appear on the edited register unless you ask for them to be removed. Currently 117,000 people within Central Bedfordshire Council area have requested their name and address to be excluded from the edited version of the register. In the past we carried over requests to be excluded from the edited register, but we will no longer be allowed to do this. If you want to have your details permanently excluded from the edited register you can write to us at Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands SG17 5TQ or us at making a permanent opt-out request. Please ensure that you state your full name and address and that you wish your details to be excluded from the edited register on a permanent basis or until further notice. A separate request is required for each member of the household, if they also wish to be permanently omitted from the edited register. Please note that the approved Parish Council minutes are now available on the Parish website -4-

BAG IT AND BIN DOG WASTE BE A RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER & CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG AVOID AN ON-THE-SPOT FINE OF 50 DOG WARDENS ACTIVELY PATROL THE AREA! Why it s important to clean up after your dog We all know how unpleasant it is to see dog mess lying around pavements and public spaces and it s even more unpleasant to step in! Unfortunately some irresponsible dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs damage the reputation of responsible owners who do. Hanging dog mess in bags from trees is unacceptable. It is simply unhygienic. Dog faeces may contain worms that are a danger to human health. Please dispose of bagged dog waste in either a dog waste or public litter bin there really are NO excuses! Avoid an on-the-spot FINE Failing to clean up after your dog when in a public space is an offence and you could face a 50 Fixed Penalty Notice or a court imposed fine of up to 1,000. Being unaware your dog has fouled or not having means to clear up isn t a reasonable excuse and you will still receive a Fixed Penalty Notice. To report a dog fouling incident call Customer Services on Further information about the Parish, including its history, diary dates, travel information, local walks and much more, can be found on the Parish website so why not visit

Pippins and Bramleys Preschool and Out of School Club There has been an exciting new arrival at Pippins and Bramleys with the hatching of our duckling. Unfortunately we only had one egg hatch this year however the children are making up for any cuddles it may be missing from siblings! At Pippins we have been enjoying the topic of Health, doctors and dentists. The children have had fun making their own x-rays, role playing doctors and exploring healthy foods. We will be continuing the healthy theme in our Olympic sports fun day on the 19 th July. We also celebrated Father s Day by inviting the children s close male family and friends to join us for a stay and play - great fun was had by all! Bramley s have been making the most of what good weather we have had by getting out into the woods and playgrounds. Other activities have included a blind maze, cryptographs, fruit people, story-telling in the woods and sock puppets, wood work, mud faces, royal portraits and making sundials phew! Don t forget we are open between 29 th July and 16 th August for Holiday Club it promises to be lots of fun. For more information contact Abi on News from the Tower These visiting ringers will be coming to ring at Campton during July and August: Sunday July 14, Linslade ringers, peal attempt, 2pm to 5pm approx. Saturday August 10, South Northants ringers, peal attempt, 10am to 1pm approx. -6-

Do you Love Food Hate Waste? As we look at ways of saving money on our household bills many of us aren t aware that food waste not only hits us in the pocket - around 50 a month - but has a serious impact on the environment too. To highlight this and other food waste related issues Central Bedfordshire Councils Waste Minimisation Team are holding Love Food Hate waste exhibitions across the area. Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive member for Sustainable Communities at the Council said: Food waste is a major issue in the U.K. We throw away over 7 million tonnes of food and drink per year, most of which could have been eaten. By making small and simple changes to the way we shop, prepare and eat food we can reduce the amount thrown away and save a lot of money. Among the giveaways at the exhibitions will be Love Food Hate Waste recipe and tip cards, portion and shopping planners as well as a chance to win a shopping voucher from a supermarket of your choice. The exhibition will be at the following: Stotfold Library: Monday 8 th July to Saturday 20 th July Shefford Library: Monday 22 nd July to Friday 9 th August Please check Central Bedfordshire Councils website for individual library opening times at If you would like any further information on food waste or local recycling schemes please contact the Waste Minimisation Team on For specific hints and tips on how to reduce food waste why not visit Items for the next Newsletter must be submitted to the Editor by the 15 th August 2013 Editor: Angela Baker angjbaker@btinternet.com Tel:
