3 President s Report Happy New Year everybody and I am glad to see you back for some more training and having fun with your dogs. To those new members for this term, I extend a very special welcome and thankyou for caring enough about your new pup or dog to want to train him properly and for giving us the opportunity to help you. To all our instructors and committee, you worked very hard last year and you all deserved a nice long break but it is now time to GET BACK TO WORK (just joking). Seriously though, there is always a lot to do in running the club and organising the classes, but I know we enjoy our Sunday mornings out here at the grounds. As well as running classes, a few things we would like to achieve this year include running an instructors course, running an open trial in July, establishing some training manuals for our instructors and hopefully starting work on a veranda for the toilet block. I saw this lovely picture during the break in a discussion about allowing well behaved dogs on public transport. I thought this epitomised what we are trying to achieve here at the club. Our aim as an affiliate of Dogs NSW, is to promote responsible dog ownership but this also includes having a well behaved dog. As those of us who have had many dogs over the years will tell you, this does not always come easily and no two dogs are the same. Some dogs take an awful lot of work but we have to keep working at it for the sake of the dog and sometimes for your own sanity. Fortunately we have a lot of instructors with many years experience training at all levels and with all breeds of dogs, so if you are having difficulties or experiencing some sort of behaviour problems with your dog, don t be afraid to ask for help. The most important step you can take to having a well behaved dog is to be the pack leader. I have heard some people say they want their dogs to be a good friend to them and just be part of the family. What they don t realise is that families have to have leaders and someone has to set the rules for everyone to follow. You can still be friends with you dog if you are the leader and in fact they will also respect you more for being the leader. And to conclude, another aim of our club is to have fun. I wish you all the best with your training this year. Kathy Griffiths

12 Master s BBQ Fundraiser The day dawned with the promise of being a scorcher! Believe me it certainly lived up to that promise. Despite the scorching conditions 12 very courageous volunteers turned up to brave the very hot BBQ and put in a big effort to make this day the success it was. They even managed to be cheerful while they worked! A very big Thank you for the following wonderful volunteers who helped to make this day a success. Firstly to Karen Roberts for initially advertising the event in the NewsHound for me. Then for putting up a roster at the club. Annie for sending all members an to remind everyone we needed volunteers and sending me all replies. Reg Forman was there at the very beginning to help myself and my husband Andrew set up the gazebo, organise the bbq, fridge, tables, eskies food and many other tasks. Then followed Lori Mancell, Katrina and Rachael, Christiane Weisbach, Janet Curean, John Bernadie who just wouldn t leave!!! Our Instuctor and Committee member Karen and her hubbie Mick Jenkins. Michael Coffee who was very kindly volunteered by his partner!!! I would also like to add that Michael was a fantastic help to me in packing up everything and putting loads of heavy items in my car. I really don t know what I would have done without you Michael. A very heartfelt thankyou from me for your generous time and strength. To Suzie who s very first BBQ it was! Believe me she came in looking very dubious. I m sure she thought the BBQ would bite like a red back! Not sure though if she is a convert to our great Australian tradition. But thanks Suzie for giving it a go! Finally to our President Kathy Griffiths who very graciously met me at the beginning of the day with caps, aprons, business cards and an esky. She then came back to don the apron and be our Chief Chef for the last part of the day. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with you all. Lots of stories and experiences were shared by all. I m sure you all enjoyed your volunteer time despite the hot conditions. It was great to get to talk to so many new members of our club. Thank you Thank you Thank you
