1 Lioness District 27-A1 The World is hugged by Lioness June 2017 Issue From District President Cindy Hello my Fellow Lioness, Another year has come to the end and what an exciting year it has been. Our District numbers have grown. So many projects have been successful and donations made to lots of people. You have brought smiles, tears, food and help to so many. I want to tell you how proud I am of all of you and thank you for all that you have done. I want to thank Ls Joan Post and Ls Patt Goerke for all their hard work on the Banquet. It was a wonderful night and the food was great. For those who were unable to attend you miss a wonderful night. Your new officers have been installed and will start leading you to another year in July. Please congratulate President elect Ls Patt Goerke, Vice President elect Ls Lisa Leonard, Secretary Elect Ls Joyce Atkinson, Treasurer elect Teri Jarvey-Berg, and Liaison Ln Larry Redlin. My hope for you is a fun and successful year and please remember I am always here if you need help. I also want to congratulate all the Club officers. It was good to see so many of you at training. The committee but together a good program and we hope you all learned a lot. Remember if you have questions please contact your trainers or your District officers. They are always there to help. Wisconsin Lions, Lioness and Leos are wonderful 295,308 pairs of eyeglasses were collected during the 7 months of the Centennial Eyeglass Challenge. The goal was 100,000 and we went crazy decided we could do more. Unbelievable. Again, thank you for a wonderful year. 2 From District Vice President Patt My Fellow Lioness: Our District 27-A1 Lioness Recognition/Cabinet Installation Banquet was May 21 st and was very well attended. Thank you club Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers for your dedication to your club and thank you to all who attended. The support you all gave to your fellow Lioness is greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the committee for the great job they did as they made everything run so smoothly. Only one more month before I start my official term as your ADP and I am looking forward to visiting your club. Please me the dates you want me to attend. Let me get you on my calendar sooner rather than later. I ve got some district participation ideas I want to run past the cabinet and then pass along to you all. It ll be fun as we all put our best foot forward. I know you and your club are out there in the community busy with your summer fundraisers and projects. Make them fun. Enjoy the warm days, the friendship, the Lioness bonding. While having fun don t forget to promote yourselves during this time in whatever way is best for your club. My club along with others post to Facebook all the time. If you don t post to Facebook but want to, let me know and I will get you some training for you and your club. Believe it or not there are some do s and don ts as well as you want to be aware of what is appropriate so you don t offend anyone. Have a fun time doing your fundraisers. Talk up your club during that time, maybe hand out your club brochure, or maybe have a signup sheet for those who might be interested in attending your club meeting. You never know where your next member will come from. Take time to enjoy the warm sun, the leaves on the trees, and the flowers as they bloom. Stop and watch our birds, the butterflies and our precious little bees. Enjoy it all but also remember we have to take care of ourselves first and our families. Taking care of ourselves allows us to better take care of others. 3 Club News East Troy Lioness This has been an exciting year for our club. We have added five new members, Ls Shirlee Fields, Anne Lenichek, Lois Davis, Lil Jacobson and Melanie Somenske. We look forward with confidence that our club is strong to face future challenges whatever they may be. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our committee chairmen. In March, our Wild Pin Bowling tournament was a huge success. In May, we held our 2 nd Derby Day fund raiser. All attending agreed, it was a fun day and we are grateful for the community support. In May, club president Ls Sheila Mondloch presented two scholarships in the amount of $1500 each to high school seniors. What an exciting day for those recipients and our club! On June 29-July 2, we will be helping the Lions at the food stand or selling raffle tickets at the East Troy Lions 4 th of July celebration. Hope to see you there. Have a great summer! Submitted by Ls. Rita Heinz, Secretary Franklin Lioness The Franklin Lioness Club had a fund raiser at Culvers in April. We appreciate Culver s providing us the opportunity to raise funds so we can support our community. Lioness Vicky Gabrus with Culvers customers At our May meeting, we had the honor of awarding (6) $600 scholarships. The scholarships are based on community service. It is amazing that our deserving recipients not only volunteer serving others, they are also active in extracurricular activities and have high GPA s. This year s recipient s aspirations include architect, biology, teacher and athletic director. Higher education schools include UW Madison, UW Milwaukee, St. Norbert College and Concordia University. We are so proud of our scholarship recipients.

We have a few booths available. If you are interested in a booth at our craft fair, contact Kathy Marks at or at kathyatbrenwood@yahoo.com. Our craft fair includes 60 vendors and attracts hundreds of attendees. Finally, mark your calendar for the St. Martins Fair Labor Day weekend. Our booth will be selling water, Gatorade, soda and wine coolers. Wales-Genesee Lioness We had our annual complimentary senior dinner, which was held on May 18, 2017 at the Wales/Genesee Lions Hall. This was our 24th annual senior dinner. We served about 72 people with the help of the Wales/Genesee Lions. 5 Eagle Lioness Our Affiliate District President was our honored guest along with her husband Lioness Area Chairperson Dale. Lioness Cindy installed three new members into our club. They are Tasha Brenner, Alice Knapp and Peggy Eckart. We welcome them and hope they enjoy the experience. Our own Lioness PADP Nancy Palmer Payne was awarded the Knight of Sight Fellowship from the Lions Eye Bank through the Eagle Lions Club. Her husband Lion Gary was there to present the award. We congratulate you Lioness Nancy. Our entertainment committee played four Easter themed games for all to enjoy Delavan Lioness The Delavan Lioness celebrated our 38th anniversary and had Installation of Officers for the year on May 22. ADP Cindy Cichon presided at the Installation with candles and flowers. We also had an anniversary cake. Waterford Lioness Although our club is small, consisting of 12 members we have managed to support our local Community in many ways throughout the year. We visit our local low income housing complex monthly Hosting Bingo or a Chit Chat session with dessert and coffee. We also deliver birthday flowers to each resident. In May we ended our year by serving a wonderful dinner to 15 participants.

6 We provide monthly gas cards to Love Inc. so that families in need can travel to job interviews or doctor appointment. We also participate in their Adopt A Family program in December. May we award two scholarships to selected graduating seniors. July we assist the Lions Club with the children s 4 th of July bike parade. October we hold our annual bake sale at the Lions chicken BBQ. December is our annual breakfast with Santa. 8 Trip to Leader Dog The Lioness of Wisconsin MD 27 would like to plan a trip to tour the Leader Dog for the Blind School in Rochester Hills, Michigan in fall, A bus or caravan of cars would be the transport. The recommended visit dates for tours would be leaving Wisconsin Fri. Oct. 13, with an overnight at a hotel/motel at nearby Rochester Hills/Auburn and touring Leader Dog on Oct. 14, 2017 from 9 till 2:30, immediately returning home. Cost of the trip would include a comfortable chartered bus, bus driver s overnight stay, meals, parking, Lioness hotel/motel accommodations, and meals total about $275 to $300 per Lioness. If a chartered bus is not feasible, and cars/vans are the transport, cost per person would be much less! State Advisory Past Affiliate District President, Lioness Marycarolyn Jagodzinski, would like feedback and commitments to travel for this trip no later than July 1, 2017, if interested.
