For more information call (541) Kudo s/thank You s Thank you to Helen and the Social Committee for a great Halloween Party, especially the unique, fun time of unraveling the saran wrap with gifts inside. Margo Wilkins Miscellany Feral cats continue to be a topic of concern. The Board cannot do anything about the feral cats and Saving Grace typically will not take feral cats. There is a feeding area down behind Love s. So, if you stop feeding them, they won t starve. They ll just go somewhere else to find their meals. Regarding barking dogs, the first step is to talk to your neighbor that has the barking dog and discuss what might be done. If, however, you don t get results, fill out a BAR (Board Action Request) and the Board will try to resolve the issue. Even though the holidays are a time of joy and happiness, it is also a time when crime increases. Be aware of your surroundings when you re shopping and don t leave purchases visible; put them in your trunk. At home, keep your doors locked. If you experience a break-in, please contact the police and inform one of the Board members as soon as possible so they can alert the community.
4 4 FOOD FOR THOUGHT Perfect Snickerdoodles Ingredients 1 cup butter, room temperature 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup light brown sugar 1 egg, plus 1 yolk 1 tablespoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 3/4 cup flour Directions Prep Cook Ready In 5 m m m Cinnamon Sugar Mixture 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1. Preheat oven to 325 F. Line a baking sheet with a parchment paper and set aside. 2. In the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment mix the butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, 2-3 minutes. Add in the egg, the yolk, vanilla, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and cinnamon and mix for 1 minute, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary. 3. Turn mixer to low and add in flour, mixing until just combined. 4. In a separate small bowl make your Cinnamon Sugar by mixing together cinnamon and sugar, stirring until evenly combined. 5. Using a medium (2- tablespoon) cookie scoop portion out the dough and roll into a ball. Then roll each cookie dough ball into the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated. 6. Place on prepared baking sheet about 2- inches apart. Bake for minutes, turning cookie sheet halfway through baking. 7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 3-4 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Notes: Bake Snickerdoodles for exactly 11 minutes every time for perfect results, but ovens vary, so bake only until the edges are slightly golden. The tops may seem slightly undercooked, but they will firm up perfectly when they cool. If you prefer a crisper cookie, bake for 2 additional minutes. Store airtight for up to 3 days.
5 ON REACHING 80 By Melanie Hill I m older than most people I m talking to My doctor is the age of my son My nurse is the age of my granddaughter The tech taking my blood my great granddaughter I am older than most of the people at our 55+ village, older than half the dead people in the obituary page My kids have grey hair and get senior discounts I can sing Mares Eat Oats and no one knows what I m singing about I can mutter Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Doris Day and people think I m senile Everyone opens doors for me I know everything and remember very little I know everything and my kids think I know nothing But my grandkids think I m cool and old I never needed Algebra 80 year olds should not be allowed to have puppies, miniskirts or bikini s Eating bran and flax seed really isn t as healthy as chocolate Of all the things I can t do anymore, I can do lunch very well I never became a ballerina or astronaut but I have been loved well and I have had my heart broken and I m supremely happy So I think you could say a good 80 years! HUMOR? As the hostess at the casino buffet showed me to my table, I asked her to keep an eye out for my husband, who would be joining me momentarily. I started to describe him: He has gray hair, wears glasses, has a potbelly She stopped me there. Honey, she said, today is senior day. They all look like that. Senior citizens have taken to texting with gusto. They even have their own vocabulary: BFF: Best Friend Fainted BYOT: Bring Your Own Teeth CBM: Covered by Medicare FWB: Friend with Beta-blockers LMDO: Laughing My Dentures Out GGPBL: Gotta Go, Pacemaker Battery Low! Q: What's it called when you steal someone's coffee? A: Mugging!
