Box 1021 Paradise, CA Summer 2018 Thanks to Children s Community Charter School and Girls on the Run! In May, we got a call from a volunteer at this charter school that a group of 3rd-5th graders (group called Girls on the Run) had had a bake sale and would like to donate the money to. We were very surprised when we found out that they had made this money in just a few hours. We made arrangements to come to the school for their last assembly of the year to receive this money. These girls worked hard, and as you can see from the picture, donated $ Thank you girls, for all your hard work and the money will go to care for the animals until they find their forever homes! This is Rebecca Dye, 9 years old. She raised money by painting and selling rocks like the ones pictured here. She used the money to buy food and supplies for the animals at our Shelter. Rebecca, YOU ROCK! ROCKS FOR SALE Rebecca Dye who came to the Shelter (with her proud father) to make a donation for the animals at the Shelter. Rebecca is from Southern California and is visiting with her Nana who lives in Magalia. Rebecca noticed that her Nana had a lot of river rocks in her yard and was inspired to paint them and sell them for.50 each to purchase items for the animals at our Animal Shelter. She raised $68.00 with an additional $5.00 of her own so she could make this purchase; Extra Large Bag (55#) of dry dog food, Large Bag of dry cat food (50#), 2 large (50#) Bags of kitty litter and a Twin Pack of pill pockets. When asked why she did this she told us she loves animals and wants to be a Veterinarian someday. We see her as being the next generation volunteer at any Animal Shelter.

2 Messages from the President The Shelter is finally painted and back in business. It took longer than expected but like all good jobs, it seems to be the way it goes. The floors and walls look great and should be good for another ten years. We are starting to get more animals at the Shelter so if you are looking to adopt, now is the time. To find out who is currently available you can call or visit the shelter. You can also go on line at or visit our facebook page. While on our Facebook page, check out the great pictures and articles of the Shelter animals. There are also updated stories about adopted animals from the Shelter. The summer brings many events for, so check out our event notices and come see us. The Black Bear event is just around the corner along with our 7 th annual art show. We hope to see all of you at these fun events. Our volunteers have been very busy socializing the animals at the Shelter. They have set up an agility course as well as two new tether tug toys for the dogs to use. We had a big cat adoption day recently but we still have some great cats available. In the future all volunteers will need to meet new requirements for the Town of Paradise. These are being modified to reflect the needs at the Shelter and will be known at a future date. This is an exciting time for all volunteers who work at the shelter. It will stream line our duties at the shelter and make us a bigger part of the Town s volunteer program. Upcoming EVENTS! The dog needed a lot of socializing and TLC to get him back on track. Kimball and Mary have been doing a wonderful job. They decided to name a new blend of wine Red and donate $2.00 of every bottle to. They have 500 bottles ready for sale. They will be holding two tastings in late November or early December at their Winery and in the Town of Paradise. More information will be available as the time grows near. This is a wonderful event to benefit. It is through the generosity of these two wonderful people that is able to continue our help at the Shelter and on the Ridge. 3 Chairs for Charity! A Seeker s Boutique and Art Studio is hosting multiple chair painting events to raise money for. Bring an old chair or other object to paint however you like. $15 gets you into as many paint parties as you need to create a work of art. Desiree (owner) is donating paint and art supplies! Chairs will be auctioned off on September 22nd at the Masonic Lodge, time TBD. Lots of fun, and all proceeds will benefit the animals at the shelter! Call for dates/times of paint parties. Thank you Desiree for hosting this fundraiser! Art Show Extravaganza Well, the annual Art Show is fast approaching. Even though it seems like a long way off, the prep work is already starting. Once again, it will take place at the Senior Center on Nunneley Road. The hours will be from 11 AM to 3 PM. This year, we will be making arrangements for a few food trucks to be there, as the event will run through the lunch hour. We already have obtained several very nice raffle prizes and are on the look-out for businesses and private parties who want to donate also. If you have something you would like to donate, please call Linda at or Any paintings left over from last year will be priced to sell. As before, there will also be a few silent auction items which turn into a lot of fun bidding on those. We are going to put all monies received towards a cat room or a cat room remodel. We are still advocating separate housing for all cats at the shelter. This event is scheduled for November 10th. As we are still in the planning stages, there will be much more to come! Holiday Market Assistant Manager Jessica and President Rick Recently received a very generous rewards card from Holiday Market as part of their community involvement program. Rick McCormick, president of is seen in this picture with Jessica, Assistant Manager of Holiday Market on Skyway right before the food was loaded into the vehicle to be delivered to the animal shelter on American Way. Every dollar of this money, like all the monies received for go to the direct support of the animals at the shelter and/or on the ridge. 4 Gold Nugget Days Float Decades of Gold was the Gold Nugget Museum s theme for 2018 Gold Nugget Days. This year, volunteers were involved painting signs as well as decorating our float the day of the parade. With a sixteen foot flatbed trailer and a lot of interest, volunteers decorated and made it a great float. Seven volunteers rode on the float with their dogs at their side. The dogs were treated to treats, water and lots of well wishes. President Rick McCormick drove the float with Vice President Dale Paul in a full dog mask along for the ride. Other volunteers carried dog and cat signs and two ladies were dressed with bright red noses handing out treats to the crowd. Two past volunteers carried the banner and Dave Smith, Volunteer of the Year, sparked the crowd to holler and clap their hands. Parade crowds and the float judges really liked the float. A fun day was had by all. Senior Project Hi, My name is Ruben Vazquez... I did my Senior High School project at the Paradise Animal Shelter. Over my time at shelter, I have had an amazing time volunteering with. During my time at the shelter, I have gotten so many wonderful opportunities and new experiences. I built great bonds with both the cats and the dogs. One of my favorite memories includes building up the courage to take out a dog named Sugar to the exercise yard to socialize her. She is such a sweet dog after you meet her and I am truly privilege to have met her. I am glad that she has been adopted. Another one of my favorite dogs was Princess. Such an amazing pup that had lots of energy. I am truly happy that she was also adopted. I would definitely say that if you have not volunteered yet, go and volunteer. It is well worth your time and a great way to make friends with the animals and other volunteers. Overall, I have had a great time at the shelter and can t wait to volunteer even more. I also had fun preparing the float for the Gold Nugget Parade. There were some amazing dogs that were really friendly. Remember everyone, Adopt! Don t Shop! Candy House Hosting Thanks!
