1 It is in giving that we receive PASH Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers Newsletter In Publication Since 1986 P.O. Box 1021 Paradise, CA Spring PASH Volunteers of the Year! Marina Runnells and David Smith have been chosen PASH Volunteers of the Year for These two volunteers have put in many hours at the shelter and at their home. They have fostered many cats and litters of kittens in their home, providing them with a safe, loving environment and a good start in life. They have also fostered several cats that needed extra socialization to become adoptable, and have found homes for them. At the shelter, they do many things to provide the cats with a clean and comfortable environment. They clean the cat room top to bottom each Saturday. and spend time with the cats to keep them from being anxious and scared while staying in the shelter environment. They also help assess the cats to determine any personal traits they have. When the cats are ready to be adopted, they transport them to Skyway Feed and Pet for adoption. If spay or neutering is required, they help transport cats to PASH Volunteers Year! of the 2017 See VOLUNTEERS on page 2 And the Winner is... The winner of our beautiful, donated Happy Cats quilt is Maria Booth. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and especially to Kathy Bertrand who made the Quilt and Barbara Michels who quilted it. We sold over 100 tickets! Also included in our thank you are HeavenScent Candles & Gifts, Post- Net and the Gold Nugget Museum who sold tickets at their locations.

2 Messages from the President If you are like me, it seemed like a long winter. I know we have only had a few weeks of this cold and rain but I am ready for spring. The animals at the shelter all seem to be doing well. In fact we have a very low census at the shelter. See the article on HUGE Adoption Day at the Shelter in this newsletter. The Town is getting ready to paint the inside of the shelter, so PASH will be assisting in fostering the animals for a few weeks. I would like to give a big thanks to all the volunteers who have helped out at the shelter. Especially our two volunteers of the year Marina Runnells and David Smith. Please see article in this newsletter. They have worked very hard fostering cats that need more attention as well as new litters of kittens at the Shelter. This is the time of the year that we share our expenses for the previous year. I would like to let everyone know that over 91% of our expenses go to the direct support of Shelter Animals and Animals on the Ridge. In fact we spent over $ in this endeavor. An additional $ go to indirect expenses, such as postage, newsletter cost and insurances. All in all, your donations are well used to support the animals here on the Ridge. Last but not least, seldom, if ever, do we honor and acknowledge our hard working Board of Directors. We have eight members of the Board who conservatively spend an additional 40+ hours a week doing their respective Board duties. These duties include but are not limited to; writing thank you letters, taking meeting minutes, distributing candy to our candy acrylic house vendors, volunteer coordinator, Cat coordinator, Sarah Fund Coordinator, writing of the Quarterly newsletter articles, distributing the Newsletters. They also pick up Post Office mail, make bank deposits, do monthly treasurers reports, do speaking engagements when invited and plan and participate in all fund raising events. There are many other duties. So to all the Board THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE! VOLUNTEERS from page 1 and from the vet hospital. Dave and Marina s love and dedication for the cats and the shelter is very special. PASH and the Shelter staff appreciate all that they contribute. Congratulations to Dave and Marina for being named our 2017 Volunteers of the Year! Another Successful Adoption! Back in December, this little guy arrived at the shelter in real sorry shape. He was taken in by the Crist family, who sent us this wonderful update: We adopted Phineas (formerly Porter) in December. My husband and my son have never had a dog, and EVERY boy should have at least one dog in his lifetime. It took Phinny some time to relax and feel secure in his new home, but now he is so sweet and happy and full of smiles. He s super respectful around his cat siblings and loves his stuffed monkey with all his heart. His hair has grown back and he is our fluffy little guy forever. We re in love. 3 Meet our New Animal Control Officer! Meet Molly St. John, our new Animal Control Officer. She was sworn in on Monday, March 19 th at the Police Department. If you see her around town, please give her a big welcome. She has a few months training before she will be on her own. Once again, welcome Molly. We are all glad you are here! By: Jen Robbins HUGE Adoption Success! I just wanted everyone to know we had a RECORD BREAKING adoption day today at the shelter with 17 animals placed, 14 of these were from the two different litters of puppies, 1 cat, 1 goofy adult dog. People were outside waiting at the shelter from 7 AM on. Some adopters came from as far away as Sacramento and Penn Valley. Our entire shelter parking lot, the one above us and the majority of American Way were overflowing with cars. We kept it very simple with signup sheets, scheduled visits in and out of the kennels/ office. We gave everyone who adopted today a new rawhide chew, a new plush toy and a new tennis ball. Everyone was so happy and seemed to be having a great time. It was absolutely wonderful to see so many empty kennels upon closing time!! We had a pretty amazing team today both staff and PASH volunteers. Shirley Kamm was co-pilot and volunteers Robin Prelle, Gloria Post, and Danielle Moran made such a big difference in how the day went so smoothly. I also want to acknowledge what an incredible foster mommy Heather Wright has been-she took on the six Husky puppies and mom; even providing new homes with gift packages. Archie update! Archie is doing fine! He has become one of our family with no problems. He is such a well-behaved doggy. Archie enjoys going for rides in my truck. I walk him on a leash around our front yard & he has a small yard in back to run & play. I can tell that he has suffered some abuse before I got him, but his behavior now is very good, showing no aggression at all. I m very pleased that we could give him a good home. 4 Curves and PostNet do it again, with style! Thank you for the 3rd year in a row to Jeni Harris, owner of Curves, and her lovely ladies in collecting lbs. of food in the month of February. Dry food, canned food and kitty litter were collected for our wonder dogs and cats at the Shelter. PASH donated two gift certificates. One of the certificates went to the person who donated the most pounds of food. This was won by Betty Guerra. The other gift certificate was the random drawing and it was won by Marsha Ray. Jeni was also kind enough to have the ladies bring in the most wonderful picture of themselves and their animals showing lots of love since it was Valentine s month. Pictured to the right is Pat with her 4 wonderful dogs. We are so thankful for this wonderful program that Jeni has sponsored. Kelly Conner at PostNet also took in donations for Curves in the month of February. A big thanks goes out to Kelly for always thinking of PASH. Kelly has a candy box in her business as well and she has sponsored the Cat Quilt for the last three weeks.
