6 NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS ALL EVENTS The American Kennel Club Rules and Regulations will govern this Show and Exhibitors must make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this Show Premium List. The American Kennel Club will collect: a $3.00 Event Service Fee and $.50 Recording Fee where applicable for the first entry of a dog, plus a $3.00 service fee for each additional entry of the same dog in the regular and non-regular recordable single-entry classes, in all AKC licensed and member club events. At every licensed or member club rally trial, a recording fee of $3.50 is required for the first entry of each dog and a recording fee of $3.00 is required for each additional entry of the same dog. The event-giving club shall assume the responsibility of collecting all Event Service Fees for The American Kennel Club. These event service and recording fees shall be forwarded to The American Kennel Club along with all other required event results within seven (7) days of the close of the event. No Entry will be accepted which specifies any condition as to its acceptance. Telegraph, and unsigned entries cannot be accepted and will be returned. Entries not on Official AKC Entry Forms and Photocopies of Entry Forms without Agreement and Rules on reverse side are NOT ACCEPTABLE. The Clubs and/or Baray Events assumes no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or the owner s agent. RESPONSIBILITY FOR COMPLETENESS OF ENTRY RESTS SOLELY WITH ENTRANT. RETURNED CHECKS DO NOT CONSTITUTE A VALID ENTRY FEE. BaRay Events will add a $30.00 collection fee to the amount of each returned check. We will not re-process checks. The exhibitor will be contacted & required to send a money order for the original amount PLUS the $30.00 NSF fee. Subsequent returned checks from same person may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY BASIS. REFUNDS for cancellations due to judge change or cancellations made prior to entries closing will be mailed by the Clubs to said Exhibitor or Agent AFTER THE SHOW. An administrative fee of $5.00 will be withheld from all refunds for entries cancelled prior to the closing of entries. Females in season are not permitted to compete in Obedience or Rally Trials. If a female is withdrawn from competition because it came into season and the Superintendent is notified no later than one half hour prior to the start of the first class in the trial, the Clubs is required to refund the entry fee. The Clubs may retain a processing fee and must publish this information in the premium. Clubs may determine the documentation, if any that is required to confirm the female is in season. This shall be stated in the premium. Note: No fee is paid to the AKC for females in season who are withdrawn. FAX ENTRIES Fax entries will be accepted up to closing time. Fee is $4.00 per dog per show. If the credit card charge is denied for any reason, an additional service charge of $20.00 will be added. FAX NUMBER: (360) This is for Fax Machine ONLY. Incomplete or illegible Fax entries are not acceptable as a valid entry in a show. Proof of transmission is not proof of receipt of a legible or complete transmission (under AKC Rule Ch. 11, Sec. 4). A Fax-Friendly entry blank PDF is available for download at Entries will be acknowledged after entries close with entry acknowledgment and judging program to address on entry. Should Exhibitor NOT receive an acknowledgment within a reasonable time, PLEASE notify BaRay Events at (360) or dogshows@barayevents.com. Entry fees shall NOT be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by the Judge or Veterinarian, or barred from competition by action of the Show Committee, or because it has been entered incorrectly. There is no refund for DUPLICATE ENTRIES or OVERPAYMENTS. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management it is impossible to open, or to complete the Show NO REFUND will be made. To find out about any AKC event cancellations call the AKC Event Cancellation Hotline Please note: Any hotel or motel listed in the premium list is subject to Event Committee Rules. We expect our exhibitors to be responsible guests. A report that an exhibitor at this show has abused hotel or motel property during this weekend may result in disciplinary action. Clubs reserve the right to decline future entries from the offending party in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 11, Section 15 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows. Dogs need be present only for scheduled judging and will be released if not needed for further judging. Dogs must be ready for judging. Neither the Clubs nor its Superintendent/Show Secretary will be responsible or obligated to furnish any service for notifying exhibitors or their agents of Breed or Class Judging. Judges need not wait for any dog holding up a class. Owners or agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. Only dogs eligible for these shows will be admitted into the show area. There is no provision for unentered dogs. LOSS OR DAMAGE The Show Committee will use due care and diligence for the welfare of dogs and exhibitors, but will not be responsible for, or assume any liability in the event of any accident or misfortune, to either dogs or exhibitors participating in these Shows. The welfare of an Exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the Exhibitor. It is distinctly understood that Exhibitors will exercise control and restraint over their children. Exhibitors should follow their veterinarians recommendation to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases, and have appropriate vaccinations. ALL RIGHTS TO TELEVISE, VIDEOTAPE, ADVERTISE, PHOTOGRAPH, PROMOTE or otherwise exploit this event are vested in the Clubs, or in persons to whom assignments of such rights have been made in writing by the Clubs. All persons and animals on the Show Grounds at any time while the show is in progress, do by attending this show or participating therein, grant to the Clubs the right to photograph, televise, videotape, audiotape or otherwise use their likeness and voice in any manner without further release or consent. If a dog is entered in any combination of Conformation, Obedience or Rally, you must pay the fee for the first entry of the dog in EACH event, as they are separate events. MOVE UP POLICY FOR THE SPECIALTY AND TRIALS: The Club will permit a move up to the next level class in accordance with AKC regulations. The request for a Move-Up must be made in writing and presented to the Show Superintendent at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the specified event, show or trial. Move up forms will be available at the Superintendent s Table. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America will NOT be accepting Rally or Obedience entries for Dogs listed in the AKC Canine Partners Program, which included All American/Mixed Breed Dogs. Winners of the Veterans Classes, if otherwise undefeated at this show, are eligible to compete for Best of Breed. BEST OF BREED (VARIETY) COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed (Variety) Competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record, and dogs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship, but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owners records. If at the end of the 90 day period the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by the American Kennel Club, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by AKC. Select Dog and Select Bitch, where applicable, will be awarded following Best of Breed. Last minute changes many be made to accommodate Veteran class winners or WD/WB. In the event that individual should make the cut with more than one exhibit, it is their responsibility to have alternate handlers available for their entries as would occur under normal judging procedures. POINTS FOR RESERVE - NATIONAL SPECIALTY ONLY The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America, Inc., will award at its National Specialty a threepoint major to Reserve Winners Dog/Bitch if the Regular Class Dog/Bitch entry is twice the required number for a five-point major in the division where the National Specialty is held. BEST PUPPY IN REGULAR PUPPY CLASS The first place winners from the individual Regular Puppy Classes (6-9 mos and 9-12 mos) will compete for the award of Best Puppy in the Regular Classes. Best Puppy competition will follow Best of Breed judging. BEST BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR IN BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR CLASSES The first place winners from the individual Bred-by-Exhibitor Classes will compete for the award of Best Bred-by-Exhibitor. Best Bred-by-Exhibitor competition will follow Best of Breed judging. BEST VETERAN IN THE VETERAN CLASSES The First place winners from the Veteran Classes will compete for the award of Best Veteran and Best of Opposite Veteran. Best Veteran competition will follow Best of Breed judging. NON-REGULAR CLASSES (Involving Multiple Dog Entries) BRACE CLASS Full particulars for each dog entered must be given on individual Official AKC Entry Forms. Two dogs of the same recognized breed or variety that are similiar in appearance, performing in unison and presented by a meximum of two handlers. 9 STUD DOG CLASS For Stud Dog and a minimum of two (2); maximum of four (4) of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownerhsip as that of the Stud Dog. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the regular classes, or if a Champion of Record in Best of Breed Competition, but MUST be entered in the Stud Dog Class, the Get MUST be entered in one of the regular classes. The Stud Dog shall be considered as one entry and requires one entry fee, this being the regular fee plus the additional class fee if the Stud Dog is entered in another Class. The Stud Dog must be shown in the ring with the Get. The class will be judged on the merirs of the Get. Note - Chapter 11, Section 8, of the AKC Rules Applying to Dog Shows, provides neutered ddogs may be entered as the Stud Dog. BROOD BITCH CLASS Same as for Stud Dog except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get where appropriate. NOTE: A castrated male may be entered as the Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch maybe entered as the Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class. GENERATION CLASS Three dogs with one exhibit from each generation of a three-generation pedigree regardless of sex, exhibited from oldest to youngest. Neuetered dogs and spayed bitches are eligible. Ownership does not need to be identical. Dog #1 - Father or Mother; Dog #2 - Son or Daughter; Dog #3 - Grandson or Granddaughter of Dog #1 and Son or Daughter of Dog #2. Dogs entered in the Generations Class do not need to be entered in a regular class. MULTIPLE DOG ENTRY CLASSES When making entries in the Multiple Dog Entry Classes, please indicate on the entry forms as to which dog(s) are to make up the entry in each Brace, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, or Generations Classes. If there is to be more than one Brace, please indicate Brace 1, Brace 2, etc. As the judge s decision in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch and Brace Classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, none of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. JUDGES AWARD OF MERIT Awards of Merit will be awarded after Best of Breed judging is completed to Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs in the Best of Breed Competition that exemplify the breed s characteristics. These awards are reserved for those quality animals the judge feels are worth of final consideration for Best of Breed. The dogs selected for Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog and Select Bitch are not eligible for an Award of Merit. REGIONAL INDEPENDENT SPECIALTY SHOW (MONDAY) - At the judge s discretion, up to four (4) Awards of Merit will be awarded in the Best of Breed competition, which shall include move-ups, Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and first place in Veteran Dog and Bitch Classes. NATIONAL SPECIALTY SHOW (THURSDAY) - At the judge s discretion, up to six (6) Awards of Merit will be awarded in the Best of Breed competition, which shall include move-ups, Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and first place in Veteran Dog and Bitch Classes. OBEDIENCE TRIAL CLASSES* REGULAR CLASSES: Novice A, Novice B, Open A, Open B, Utility A, Utility B OPTIONAL TITLING CLASSES: Beginner Novice A, Beginner Novice B NON-REGULAR CLASSES: Veteran, Brace, Team RALLY TRIAL CLASSES* RING 40X50* REGULAR CLASSES: Novice A & B Intermediate Advanced A & B Excellent A & B - Master NON-REGULAR CLASSES: Team Novice * In Obedience & Rally Classes requiring jumps, you must put the jump height on the entry form. BITCHES IN SEASON Since bitches in season are not permitted to compete in Obedience Trials, the Club will refund all but seven dollars of the entry fee for bitches unable to compete for that reason. The Superintendent must be notified of such claim for refund on-site at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the first class of the trial or by letter postmarked September 16, 2018 or earlier Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America, Inc. 9

10 JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION NOVICE CLASS: For boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who at the time entries close have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice Class. A first place in Novice without competition leading to a Best Junior award with competition would count as one win towards moving to Open at a licensed or member show. OPEN CLASS: For boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show, and who have won three first place awards in a Novice Class or if a win in Novice leads to a Best Junior with competition present it will count as one win towards moving to Open in a licensed or member show. Juniors which according to their records have completed the requirements to compete in the Open class but whose status is unconfirmed by the American Kennel Club are limited to competing in the Open Class for a period of 90 days from the date of the show where the Junior completed the requirements according to their records. MASTER CLASS: This class will be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years on the day of the show, and who have 10 Best Junior wins with competition. The calendar for this class will be consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC National Championship. All Juniors meeting the criteria for this class are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed all participants return to the Open Class to compete for the following year. NOVICE AND OPEN CLASS DIVIDED: Junior-9 years old and under 12 years old on the day of the show; Intermediate-12 years old and under 15 years old on the day of the show; Senior-15 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show. NOTICE: Junior Handlers must include their AKC JUNIOR HANDLER NUMBER on each entry. You may obtain your junior identification number by calling the AKC, Judges Education Department, (919) BE SURE ALL INFORMATION for Junior Showmanship Classes is entered on front and back of entry form. NOTE: SUBSTITUTION OF DOG IN JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP AT THE SHOW(S): There will be an Administration Fee of $5.00 charged for any substitution of dog in Junior Showmanship at each show. In addition, if the dog originally entered in Jr. Showmanship was an additional entry, and the dog being substituted is not otherwise entered in the show, the Junior Showmanship Only fee applies. SANCTIONED FOUR-TO-SIX MONTH (BEGINNER PUPPY) COMPETITION Entries will close Wednesday, Noon, August 29, 2018, at Superintendent s office. One combined class will be offered for breeds and varieties of dogs that are (4) four months & under (6) six months. An AKC registration number or AKC litter number will be required for entries of an AKC recognized breed. A foreign born dog may enter this class if they are registered in the country of origin. Dogs are required to be vaccinated (including rabies) in accordance with their veterinarian s protocol in order to avoid inadvertent transmission of illness by/to puppies not yet fully immunized. Dogs that are owned or co-owned by a professional handler may compete in this class, but must be handled by a non-professional handler. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants or household members of a professional handler. A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or, assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend. AKC Rules in Dealing with Misconduct will be applicable to any person and dog entered at this competition. All applicable rules found in Rules Applying to Dog Shows will govern the conduct of this competition unless these regulations state otherwise. Exhibitors should plan on opening the mouth of their puppy for the judges. Breed standard disqualifications such as color, height, weight or dentition shall not be a point of consideration in the judging process for this 4 & Under 6 Months Puppy Competition. Puppies are eligible only for the Futurity Stake which occurs in conjunction with the first GSMDCA National Specialty Show held on or after the date that they reach six (6) months of age and are not eligible for Subsequent Futurity Stake judging. Champions of Record are eligible to compete. B. Futurity entrants must also be entered in one of the regular classes at the GSMDCA National Specialty Show. Fee for this class must be paid. C. 21 AKC NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. All dogs that are owner-handled and are not owned or exhibited by professional handlers* meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge s book, steward s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members and current assistants** to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any competition during the entire show. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes. If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner- Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch. If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible Winners. If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated. No class dogs other than the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring. *Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years **A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America, Inc. 21

22 AKC Code of Sportsmanship PREFACE: The sport of purebred dog competitive events dates prior to 1884, the year of AKC s birth. Shared values of those involved in the sport include principles of sportsmanship. They are practiced in all sectors of our sport: conformation, performance and companion. Many believe that these principles of sportsmanship are the prime reason why our sport has thrived for over one hundred years. With the belief that it is useful to periodically articulate the fundamentals of our sport, this code is presented. Sportsmen respect the history, traditions and integrity of the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen commit themselves to values of fair play, honesty, courtesy, and vigorous competition, as well as winning and losing with grace. Sportsmen refuse to compromise their commitment and obligation to the sport of purebred dogs by injecting personal advantage or consideration into their decisions or behavior. The sportsman judge judges only on the merits of the dogs and considers no other factors. The sportsman judge or exhibitor accepts constructive criticism. The sportsman exhibitor declines to enter or exhibit under a judge where it might reasonably appear that the judge s placements could be based on something other than the merits of the dogs. The sportsman exhibitor refuses to compromise the impartiality of a judge. The sportsman respects the AKC bylaws, rules, regulations and policies governing the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen find that vigorous competition and civility are not inconsistent and are able to appreciate the merit of their competition and the effort of competitors. Sportsmen welcome, encourage and support newcomers to the sport. Sportsmen will deal fairly with all those who trade with them. Sportsmen are willing to share honest and open appraisals of both the strengths and weaknesses of their breeding stock. Sportsmen spurn any opportunity to take personal advantage of positions offered or bestowed upon them. Sportsmen always consider as paramount the welfare of their dog. Sportsmen refuse to embarrass the sport, the American Kennel Club, or themselves while taking part in the sport.
