1 ! EARLY AUTUMN 2013! Barking Out Loud The Newsletter of The Cockapoo Owners Club (UK) Welcome to the late summer/early autumn edition of the Club's Newsletter. We hope to provide you with lots more poo related News from the Club. Club & team Update from Shirley There have been some changes behind the scenes. We have had to streamline the club so will no longer be doing Club Memberships or discounts for members. There may be some other changes at a later date. The club however is popular as ever with more and more joining Facebook everyday, we now have over 1400 members, and remains the helpful friendly club it has always been. We say farewell to Di and Mary who both have recently left the club, with our thanks for their time and efforts in helping with the club this past year. We wish them all the best for the future. We now have some new team members since last newsletter, and say Welcome to the Mod team, who will be helping to keep Facebook a friendly place to be. They are : Steve Pinkney, Matt Carr, Nicole Berry, Sue Hughes, Iain Fearnley, Gillian Monk and MIa Towers. Another welcome to John Donnelly who has taken on the role as Club Activities organiser, who recently did his first successful event : The Summer Poo Picnic. 2 Club Puppy Update This is Harley Cockapoo who is in training to be a Hearing Dog and doing a typical Poo pose Summer photo competitions Natalie Grose with Bailey won the Summer Poo Photo comp in July winning a bottle of champagne and chocolates...all entries are on website. And recently we had The Snoozy Poos Comp, raising 246 for HD with the winner Niki Smith getting some flowers and Chocs from Next kindly donated by Wendy Muela. Niki submitted a gorgeous picture of ccoker mum Poppy and baby cockapoo Henry. Two runner up prizes of car You can read about his progress on clubs website on his blog called Paws For Hearin paws-for-hearing.html) stickers went to Anne Malone and Murphy and Mark Shaw and Chester. All entries are on website. We raised 5k to be able to name him, thanks to the hard work of the FR committee and support and donations from our lovely kind Club members and the team. COMPETITION we love our competitions - next one will be announced on OCT 1st!! Fundraising Karen Farmer shared her fundraising event of 5th August on the Facebook group: I am absolutely delighted to announce that we collected 170 at the B & Q collection (Lincoln) in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, many thanks to Debra Blackburn, and my non cockapoo friends and family for your support. A special thanks to Christine and her Hearing Dog - Saxon who joined us for the day x also a special thanks to Rolo, Crunchie and Ruby who along with Saxon made the collection x

3 SHOPPING CAR STICKERS Don't forget when shopping online register with and choose the Cockapoo Owners club as your charity... As these were so successful last year, we have ordered them again.they are available for a donation of 2.00 per sticker. This includes P&P, but only applicable to those living in the UK. They are the size of a car disc and are vinyl and self adhesive and stick onto the outside of you car/van etc...the money for these will be held in our fund raising kitty and will be either donated to Hearings Dogs or any other charities we support in the future or used for future fund raising events.as a non profit organisation we make no profit from these all proceeds will be going to charity.to order: Please into club: cockapooowner@hotmail.com or send me a PM on FB, you will be sent details of how to pay. Stickers will be sent out once payment received. AUCTION! LOOK OUT FOR: At the end of June we held a fun and successful online Auction, for a huge variety of items. There was much banter and finding out a lot of information about members tastes! Everyone as always was extremely generous both with their donations to sell and ability to buy! Cockapoo Owners Club clothing is now available again with Printed Wardrobe, the company we used before. We now have our own club shop on the website. The event raised an amazing 491. PUPPYLOG This is a log of puppies/dogs on the Facebook group, you may find where your pup s siblings are! We have had so many new pups and members this summer the log is constantly changing, please do add your details onto the comments to be added. In the next couple of weeks we will be asking for a bit more info about your dogs, look out for the Facebook messages. Cockapoo Health Survey The Cockapoo Owners Club Health Survey has now been closed and the results are now published on the website. Many Thanks to all those who participated.

4 Our Facebook Group The Club s Facebook group now has just under 1500 members! The group is closed which means that only group members can see posts, so you can be as nutty about your poos as you like and we all understand (and it s a safe place to talk about poos we know what you mean!) There are rules for posting to keep the group a friendly and supportive place. 5 The Diary of Coco Lester aged 11 months My first Cockapoo holiday. It's been a busy few months for me. A few times I've been on really long car journeys and then stayed in places that weren't my home. In May, All the family got in the car. I lay on the kids at the back and we drove for ages and ages. We went to a place called Devon. When we got there I saw my friend Riley, who looks after John and Catherine. Riley always tries to sit on me! He runs around lots and lots. I also met some new friends. We stayed in this small house, but it felt very cosy. There were lots of houses on a big field. In the house next to us there were 5 cockapoos!!! They were all girls and they were called the Pearce's. After the humans brought lots of bags into our new house, Mandy and the kids walked me around. I had to stay on my lead which was a pain as there were so many things to smell. We met Hattie and Max who look after Sonia and John. Then we met Frank who looks after Sally. We saw Minnie who looks after Sarie and through the window we saw Bob who looks after Diane, Later on, we met Poppy who looks after Niki. Poppy was pretty and she let me eat her food. It was so yummy that I have been eating that food ever since! walks as we get to run around with lots of freedom. It was such fun and we jumped through mud puddles. Some of the other dogs rolled in it! When we got back John, who is looked after by Hattie and Max, hosed me with cold water. I then went home and gave dad a big kiss and cuddle. He was sitting in front of his computer like he always does. Later on, we all went to meet up with everyone and eat chicken and beef and other stuff. It was yummy and fun. I loved that day. The next day, I went on the beach for the first time. It was cold and windy We went with Riley and his family. I liked climbing the rocks. I love climbing on things. Since then, I've been on the beach a couple more times and I enjoy helping the kids dig holes. I like putting my face in the sand. It feels nice. I'm a little bit scared that the water might take me away so I don't like going too far in the water. If mummy went further in, I might do. The next day we all got in the car and drove for hours and hours again to go home. I had a good time and can't wait to see people soon. I really enjoyed my first cockapoo holiday and I think that the humans had a good time too!! When we went to bed, I was soooo tired that I didn't really want to wake up the next morning. I like my lie ins! The next morning we went on a big group walk. I've been on a lot of those recently. There were lots more dogs to meet and people! I can't remember everyone's name but everyone was so friendly. I love the

6 SUMMER POO PICNIC! John Donnelly 15th of June 2013 was a special day for me, as I became the new events and activities Co-ordinator for The Cockapoo Owners Club UK. As part of this role I have to come up with ideas for group activities for Club members. It was eventually decided, after much deliberation on the facebook goup page that on 10 th August we would have a picnic, walk and other events at Wendover Woods in Buckinghamshire. Even though I personally liked the idea of a BBQ, the idea had a cost attached for the hire of the stand, and club members were more than happy to contribute towards this and also donate a little more towards The Hearing dogs for Deaf people Charity (Registered charity in England and Wales no: ) or HD for short. Of course, with so many Cockapoos, we just had to have a dog show! We had lots and lots of ideas and came away with the following list: Most handsome Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Cutest Puppy, Waggiest tail, Fancy Dress, Musical Sit, Quickest Recall, Best trick, Fastest Egg eater. So after, much form filling and red tape the Cockapoo Owner s Club UK s first fully fledged day event looked was actually going to take place. As the event got closer and closer the days got longer and longer members started saying they were coming. By the Friday night before we had 70 people and 40 poo s coming and I was worrying that they would find out and throw us off site. On the morning I was running 20 minutes late, someone who knew the area had arrived at Wendover before me, and she already had spoken to the Duty forest Ranger. We then picked out another site for the picnic as the one I had selected wasn t flat enough, I had not bargained for the HD tent or for the event to have become as big as it became. The area I had chosen was also a fair distance from the car park which I had not really thought of. So the new area that had been chosen turned out to be perfect. On the day we must have had nearer 80 people join us with roughly 45 dogs. The day went very well with all competitions running smoother extremely well. While all the planning had been going on Mary Gosling had been liaising with Lisa Bishop, from Hearing Dogs. Mary managed to persuade Lisa to come and judge our competitions and games to award the winners with their rosettes. Lisa did a brilliant job along with her family who also helped. Over all, the day and the planning went very well. I would like to thank all the Members of this wonderful club for all their help and their donations for the raffle. You all managed to raise for Hearing Dogs. You are all amazing! There are regularly arranged meets and walks around the country.
