1 July 2017 St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Welcome Ambassador Program If you have been over to the Reichert Health building recently you may have seen a new podium with a couple smiling faces standing nearby. This is our new pilot program called Welcome Ambassadors that started mid-june and will run throughout the summer. Our goal is to have this program grow to all of our entrances and to our Brighton and Livingston locations starting in the fall. Currently our 10 ambassadors are putting St. Joe's core values of compassion and reverence into action when helping those in need to their destination in the hospital. So far our Ambassadors have been making a difference to about 50 patients and visitors per day by escorting and providing wheel chair assistance. Pictured below on the left is Jason, one of our first Ambassadors and on the right is Bria, our Volunteer Services intern who helped create and coordinate this program. We are actively recruiting more customer service focused and friendly volunteers for this program. Volunteers must be outgoing, energetic, and ready to assist our patients and visitors at all times. This is a standing and walking position as you will be escorting patients and their visitors throughout the hospital. If you or someone you know is interested in making a positive impact on our patients, please contact Darlene Wilson at: News / Reminders 2 Content Summer Treat 3 Summer Festivals and Fairs 4 Birthdays 5 1

3 Summer Treat No Bake Cherry Cheesecake Lasagna Here's a great and easy treat for the summer months. This recipe doesn't require turning on the oven or stove in this hot and humid weather. It also has cherries which are not only in season but are also a great source of antioxidants and some anti-inflammatory compounds. This recipe uses cans of cherry pie filling but fresh cherries can be substituted. Prep Time: 30 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes Ingredients: 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 stick of butter, melted 3 (4 oz) cream cheese, softened 1 cup powdered sugar 2 Tbsp milk 1 cup pecans chopped 1 cup heavy cream, whipped 2 Tbsp powdered sugar 1 Tsp vanilla Directions: 1. In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. 2. Firmly press into a crust in the bottom of 9x13 glass or porcelain dish, let it chill in the freezer for about minutes to firm up. 3. In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese, 2 Tbsp of milk, and the powdered sugar until blended and smooth. 4. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled graham cracker crust. 5. Top with a layer chopped pecans. 6. Mix the whipped cream, icing sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl and spread over the pecans. 7. Pour the cherry pie filling over the whipped cream layer and spread evenly. 8. Chill overnight in refrigerator. 9. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. 2 cans cherry pie filling 3

6 Opportunities Pet Therapy In need of compassionate and dedicated registered Pet Therapy teams for patient visits or greeting and escorting visitors in the lobby. The SJMHS Pet Therapy Program is a unique way that we show compassion to our patients, their families, and even our hospital staff. Pet Therapy visits lift the spirits of our patients and help them reconnect and give them unconditional love, which boosts their mental and physical health. If interested, please contact Darlene Wilson at: Cardiac Catherization Lab Volunteers are needed in the Cardiac Cath Lab for one four hour shift per week for six months. This lab operates Monday Friday. 7:30 4:00PM and is located on the 2 nd floor of the Family Birth Center. This opportunity would involve greeting patients, serving as a link between patients and staff, visiting and supporting family members, and other assigned duties. Please contact Darlene Wilson at: Livingston Information Desk: This location is in need of friendly volunteers with great people skills to help at the information desks. You must have great customer service skills for greeting and escorting visitors in the lobby. If interested, please contact Darlene Wilson at: Special Project in St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Center Ann Arbor This special project entails stuffing leather binders that will be distributed to cancer patients at the Ann Arbor location. Assistance from the satellite sites (Livingston, Brighton, Canton) would be much appreciated. It does involve lifting boxes of binders and lifting boxes of inserts. This is an ongoing project but help is especially needed starting this month, June. Please contact Darlene Wilson at: Cancer Center Welcome Ambassador This customer focused opportunity for friendly individuals with great people skills to assist in the cancer center as one of the first faces patients will see. You will greet and assist patients as they arrive and make sure their needs are met (questions answered, wayfinding to their destination, etc.). This is an amazing way to help those in need and make their visit more comfortable. Please contact Darlene Wilson at: 6
