1 CONGRESS 8,9,10 SEP PTEMBER Complementary Veterinary Medicine Group The Origin of Disease 2017 L E T H A B O E S T A T E C R A D L E O F H U M A N K I N D

2 Dear colleagues, We are excited to invite you to join us at the 2017 Complementary Veterinary Medicine Group congress at the Lethabo Estate, South Africa. This year we will be exploring the holistic approach to the Origin of Disease. Only through understanding the root causes of illness and pain in our patients can we begin to successfully treat and prevent these dis-eases, refining our health care programmes and prolonging quality of life for our patients. With the growing global resistance to antimicrobials and increase prevalence of chronic diseases there is a growing gap in successful therapies within the conventional medicine systems. With this, an explosion of innovations are surfacing including increased research and experiences based veterinary medicine in the use of complementary medicine like herbal, homeopathy, nutritional therapy and acupuncture. One of the fastest growing fields of research into the causes of disease is the gut microbiology: how diet, vaccination, chemicals and medicine affects the microbiome and ultimately the human or animal host. We willl have several lectures from experts in the field exploring this topic. Chronic pain in our patients is one of the top complaints veterinarians are faced with daily. Long gone are the days of just prescribing a non-steroidal to cope with the discomfort. As integrative veterinarians our goal is to look for the origin of pain, not just in the physical boy, and knitting together a patient specific treatment pain. Combining complementary therapies with conventional medicine to alleviatee and hopefully cure pain. We are privileged to have phenomenal local and international speakers to enlighten us about pain and the management thereof. During this congress we wish to present complementary and conventional veterinarians with some of the modalities available that can be used to treat our patients in a truly integrative way. So, if you are looking for an eye opening weekend or just to have some fun and share in interesting conversation with likeminded individuals, please save the date for this congress. We are looking forward to welcoming you! Sincerely Dr Roselle Hartwigsen Congress Coordinator 2 P a g e

8 Dr Anuska Viljoen Anuska trained as a conventional Veterinarian in South Africa and qualified from Onderstepoort in She completed a post graduate Honours degree in Medicine, Anaesthesiology and Clinical Pathology in 1995, while running an animal welfare hospital for the PDSA in Soweto. Mid 1995 she decided to move to the UK to gain international experience as a Veterinary Surgeon. She soon became interested in complementary medicine, after witnessing how homeopathy could help conditions where conventional medicine no longer had much to offer. In 2000, she became a Veterinary member of the Faculty of Homeopathy in the UK. She is also a Licentiate member of the International College of Crystal Healers (2003) and passed her Veterinary Acupuncture Exams in After moving back to South Africa in 2004, Anuska set up Mandala Health (now Simply Vets) - the first fully integrated holistic Veterinary practice in South Africa, combining her alternative healing skills with conventional medicine and surgery. She has also studied a range of other therapies, including homotoxicology, medical nutrition, functional medicine, magnetic therapy, physical therapies, emotional freedom technique (EFT), herbs, essences and spiritual healing. She has a passion for animal nutrition. Kim Dyson After spending time with Kim Dyson, it is easy to understand why she finds it difficult to categorize exactly what she does. Her simplicity of healing is perceived in such complexity. The closest term she has come to this simplicity so far is Complementary Holistic Healer but even those words tell only part of the story. It is more a case of reiki-acupuncture-aromotheraphy-crystal-quantum-physio-pyschic-radionics- communicator- homeopathy-angel-colour-herbal-clairvoyant-horsewhisperer-intune, massage, and celestial-myopathy-nutritional therapist. And oh yes, she works with both humans and animals after all, she says, it is all the same! Simplicity. This diversely skilled lady is a bubble of energy, good things, and is passionate about her work. She welcomes a skeptic mind to discover this magic that is within us all. Her approach of, word-of-mouth only, has worked well, garnering a legion of clients across South Africa and neighboring countries. She also has a respectable following in England and Dubai. Kim has been an integral part of several winning teams, helping and healing where necessary in order for horse and owner to produce their best efforts. She prepared the Springbok teams for the Tri Nations held in Namibia in 1998 and 1999, as well as the Saddler team for their international event against the USA held in Parys in She started her Equine B.Sc in Kim is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and regularly runs courses around the country. She would like as many people as possible to be empowered. Through the inspiration of many people she was pushed towards establishing Equisentials, to teach horses, owners and grooms to feel, and in due course will be publishing a book. 8 P a g e
