1 1 st AVAN International Pain Management Symposium for Companion Animals CPD credits to be announced 6 th to 8 th March 2014 Vienna Introducing AVAN Symposium Information
2 Introducing the Austrian Veterinary Analgesia Network In the 17 th century, the French philosopher René Descartes believed that animals were like machines inanimate like metal and not capable of feeling pain. Although long since changed, today s different view and extensive knowledge on pain and its management in animals still demands promotion and support. The Austrian Veterinary Analgesia Network AVAN is a platform for veterinarians with a special interest in pain management. Regular interactive CE seminars guarantee the exchange and further expansion of knowledge. Specialists in the field of anaesthesia and analgesia provide high-end lectures and the possibility to take your practical pain management to the next level. Mission Our mission is to take part in spreading the word internationally as well as in our home country Austria. Providing a platform for high-class continuous education in a casual atmosphere and discussions among peers, we aim to link the latest scientific findings with the challenges the clinician faces in everyday practice. Vision A level of knowledge in the field of veterinary analgesic management which ensures that no animal in veterinary care companion or other suffer from any pain. Join the AVAN TODAY
3 Our Experts Dr. Elena Russold (CertVA) works at the Division for Anaesthesiology and Peri-operative Intensive Care at the Vetmeduni Vienna. She is member of the AVAN founding committee and acts as scientific advisor. Her long-time experience as an anaesthetist, at universities as well as in private practice both at home and abroad, enables her to connect scientific research with the needs of the clinician in daily practice. Dr. Charles Short (PhD, DACVA, DECVAA), Emeritus Professor of Cornell University, USA, is a pioneer pain manager in veterinary medicine. Without him, the analgesic management of animals would not be where it is today. Dr. Short is Honorary Member of the AVAN and is happy to share his extensive knowledge, travelling all over the world, despite his age. Our Partners Full conceptional support of the Vetmeduni Vienna guarantees highest academic standards. Univ. Prof. Dr. Yves Moens who will chair the 1 st AVAN Pain Management Symposium as well as Dr. Ulrike Auer, act as scientific advisors. The IVAPM International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management is official partner of the AVAN, which gives all AVAN members the possibility of becoming a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP). Joining the AVAN means automatically becoming a member of the IVAPM for free (!). An additional benefit is a very special rate for a subscription to The Journal of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Platinum Sponsor
