1 AMENDMENTS TO APPENDICES I AND II OF THE CONVENTION adopted by the Conference of the Parties at its eighth meeting in Kyoto, Japan, from 2 to 13 March 1992 Interpretation a) The abbreviation "spp." is used to denote all species of a higher taxon. b) The abbreviation "sp." is used to denote the species of a higher taxon which were listed in. c) An asterisk (*) placed against the name of a species or higher taxon indicates that one or more geographically separate populations, subspecies or species of that species or taxon are included in and are excluded from Appendix II. d) Two asterisks (**) placed against the name of a species or higher taxon indicates that one or more geographically separate populations, subspecies or species of that species or taxon are included in and are excluded from. 1. The following populations of Crocodylidae included in subject to specified annual export quotas were maintained in, subject to the following quotas: Crocodylus niloticus - population of Madagascar 3,100 4,100 4,400 (ranched specimens except 100 nuisance wild specimens each year) - population of Somalia Crocodylus porosus - population of Indonesia 9,700 8,500 8,500 (7,000: ranched/captive-bred specimens; 1,500 wild specimens for 1992 only: 1,200 skins already in stock) 5

The following populations of Crocodylus niloticus included in subject to specified annual export quotas were maintained in, without being subject to such quotas (proposals submitted pursuant to Resolution Conf on Ranching): Populations of Ethiopia, Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania. However, it must be noted that the proposals submitted pursuant to Resolution Conf on Ranching were adopted under the following conditions: Ethiopia: United Republic of Tanzania: No more than 4'500 specimens will be exported before 11 June 1992 (date of entry into force of the amendments) under the 1992 quota (6'000) adopted at the seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties. No more than the following numbers of wild-taken specimens will be exported: 1992: 400 nuisance animals and 100 hunting trophies : 200 nuisance animals and 100 hunting trophies each year 1995-: 100 nuisance animals and 100 hunting trophies each year. 7. The population of Indonesia of Scleropages formosus (PISCES, OSTEOGLOSSIFORMES, Osteoglossidae) included in subject to specified annual export quotas was maintained in with a zero quota. All specimens of this species to be exported by Indonesia will be specimens bred in captivity by P.D. Bintang Kalbar, Pontianak, West Kalimantan. No more than 3'000 such specimens in 1993 and 4'000 in 1994, with a maximum length of 15 cm, will be exported. 8. The species Acinonyx jubatus (, CARNIVORA, Felidae) included in was maintained in that appendix. However, the following annual export quotas for live animals and hunting trophies were adopted: Botswana: 5 Namibia: 150 Zimbabwe: 50 The trade in such specimens is subject to the provisions of Article III of the Convention. 9. Following the adoption of the amendments set out in items 1-4, the following species and other taxa are no longer listed as they were in or II of the Convention, since the amendments have entered into force. As a consequence of the adoption of standard references to the nomenclatures for birds and plants listed in the appendices, some purely editorial changes have been introduced in the revised versions of Appendices I, II and III and, where appropriate, annotations have been included in the "Interpretation". 11. In accordance with the provisions of Article XV, paragraph 1, sub-paragraph (c), of the Convention, the amendments adopted at the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties entered into force 90 days after that meeting, i.e. on 11 June 1992, for all Parties except those which made reservations by that date. 12. Following the adoption of these amendments a revised edition of Appendices I and II was prepared by the Secretariat. This revised edition is reproduced at the end of the present Proceedings. 13. Some of the adopted amendments concern species or other taxa which were listed in I of the Convention. A revised edition of this appendix was therefore prepared by the Secretariat, which also entered into force on 11 June This revised edition is reproduced at the end of the present Proceedings. 8
