1 A registered non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization Published monthly by Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies few weeks ago, our contacts in Istanbul put out an emergency request out to all the rescues participating in rescuing Turkey dogs. There are about 70 Goldens in an open air shelter outside of Istanbul, Turkey. In that particular region, temperatures drop to freezing in December and there is concern for whether these dogs could survive in outdoor winter conditions. It s because of you, our GRRR supporters, that we are pleased to announce this emergency rescue effort for this group of 18 orphaned Golden Retrievers from Istanbul, Turkey. This was unplanned and certainly not in our budget, but we feel compelled to help. There are two other GR rescues participating in this project. As you know, we never say no to a Golden in need, so these dogs will be flying in from Istanbul to Denver just in time for the holidays. This will be the third Turkey Dog operation we have undertaken. As you may recall, all 98 Golden rescues in the U.S. have a waiting list, so this really helps save these dogs and get them to new safe, warm, and loving homes for the holidays. If you d like to donate to TDIII, please go to: goldenrescue.com/donate-to-turkey-dogs We are fortunate to have sponsors for this group who will have some great seasonal names: Peace, Kringle, Holly, Comet, Rudy, Noel, Miracle, Joy, Hope, Merry, Dickens, Nutmeg, Ivy, Grace, Blizzard, Blitzen, Nicholas, and Frosty. It s an expensive undertaking, but they are so worth saving. It s amazing to see them adjust here at GRRR and see the happy, grateful faces of their new families. We are accepting adoption applications for these holiday turkey dogs at: goldenrescue.com/adopt-a-golden-retriever/application. All of our regular adoption requirements apply.

5 ive-year-old Dusty came to GRRR with a cataract in his left eye, which would have resulted in complete loss of sight without surgery. He required special drops for a month prior to surgery and physical restrictions for weeks after, which he is lovingly receiving from his foster (soon-to-be adoptive) dad, Steve Schmidt. Shortly after surgery, Dusty developed a problem with eyeball pressure and bleeding, which caused great concern. The doctor did an emergency procedure, and now Dusty is successfully on the mend with vision in both eyes for the first time in over three years. Dusty is one of GRRR s Golden Angels who will be helped by donations to Colorado Gives Day on December 6th. Early Giving is now open. Please help dogs like Dusty by going to Goldenrescue.com, and clicking on the Donate Now button. hankfulness just seems like the right word. You all support GRRR, but really, it s the dogs you support. GRRR is just a name and, in our case, a place. What it is really about are those fur balls that we all just can t resist. We love being around them and we love the small breakthroughs we get to make, like when the most scared dog finally comes up to sniff your hand or take a treat. The dogs we love are really the ultimate pay it forward any of us could offer. You help teach them to be better on-leash or learn to sit. You teach them to take a treat from your fingertips instead of from the elbow down (LOL!). You help socialize them and help them learn to be dogs again. Ultimately, all those little lessons are brought with them (paid forward) to their new homes and families, where they provide huge comfort and love to those around them. Thank you for loving and supporting the dogs in our care.
6 Congratulations to All of Us By Kevin Shipley GRRR was just awarded Best Small Business in Arvada for 2016, in our category. The press release can be found at: This award is really recognition for all who pour their time and support into GRRR and into the dogs in our care. It's nice to be recognized for our collective efforts. It shows that dogs and people appreciate us all. Thank you, and good job. rvada West Veterinary Hospital is not just a vet for GRRR. Rather, they are close friends who share in the roller coaster ride that comes with being part of the wide variety of care our furry humans require: both caring for the happy-go-lucky goofballs and working through the truly tragic situations that periodically occur. They feel what we feel. This year, they have a Christmas tree in their lobby decorated with Golden Angel ornaments to help bring awareness to and raise funds for these dogs. Our Golden Angels are precious. They have easy and not-so-easy treatments, but through it all, their tails wag and they are happy for any sign of attention. We trust A-West and their entire staff to care for and love on our dogs as we would. A giant thank you to our friends. In our day-to-day lives we are all busy rushing from one appointment to another, squeezing in life's necessities in between. The end of the year has always been viewed as a time of reflection. If we are lucky, we take time to consider our blessings and the positive things that have come our way. If we don't take that time, we just refresh and prepare for another 12-month sprint. My question is: what's the point if you don't take time to reflect on the sweet people (furry and otherwise) in our lives? We may be wasting an opportunity to feel better about life. So, we send a big thank-you to our friends at Arvada West for all they do for us (and everyone else) all year long. Holiday Event to Benefit GRRR Join us on December 10th & 11th to get your holiday shopping done and get some great unique items all while, in part, benefiting GRRR and our beautiful Golden Retrievers. Jackalope Indie Artisan Market will be held at the McNichols Event Center from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Not only will GRRR be there with dogs and merchandise, but there will be artisans with homemade dog treats, custom dog collars, and many wonderful human holiday shopping items as well. It s a big annual event that you won t want to miss. If you d like to volunteer at the GRRR booth, with or without your dog, just let us know (info@goldenrescue.com).
