1 A registered ww 501 (c)(3) charitable organization Published monthly by Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies rlo here, with my sis Sadie, reporting on a most excellent picnic at this big beautiful lake very far from home but we d gladly struggle through that drive every day if mom and dad would take us again and again. Not sure Sadie would last too long since she has already had two days to recover from this adventure and she is still dragging around the house. I, on the other hand, am ready to go again. By the way, she is a year younger than me! All the wonderful members of GRRR made it possible for us pups and our families to enjoy this day. They brought balls to chase and retrieve and food for all the two-leggers. Some of us tried to get into that tent full of delicious food, but people kept shooing us out. Can t understand why there wasn t any food for us, but I did hear that a couple of my cousins nabbed a sandwich or two before the day was done. I heard my mom say It s wonderful to have so many great volunteers who make the GRRR events such a success, and contribute their talents year after year like Debbie Davis, whose graphics and designs make all the invitations, signs, and publications works of art. Most of my cousins were so happy to see Mary Kenton and Darla Henderson arrive, the people who found them their forever homes. My sis Sadie would never have found us if not for them. I d give them lots of thank you kisses if I could. There were baskets of goodies for the raffle that our friend Wendy Goad (she has Aussies?) put together, along with prizes for The Great Ball Toss, which is probably our favorite part of the day. Ellie Losasso, Staci Smith, and their helpers had a tent full of dog stuff for sale, but as usual, we were not welcome there and I know they

2 had fun toys inside. Our friend Kevin Shipley played great music all day and remembered to play our favorite song for The Great Ball Toss (Who Let the Dogs Out!). There were a couple of guys from Poop 911 following us around scooping up our poop, which my sister (and probably my mom and dad) were very grateful to have because Sadie would roll over and gag if she stepped in poop. Me? Not so much. Excitement built as The Great Ball Toss approached. We all had to get out of the lake and stand on the shoreline waiting for all those beautiful yellow orbs to be tossed into the lake. I understand that the balls are for us to retrieve, but why is everyone yelling for us to bring back the ones with black smudges on them? I like the pristine yellow ones that smell brand new and have lots of good fuzz for ripping off, but dad keeps telling me to drop it and get another one. We all ignored them and romped and played in the water while bringing back the balls, until they all lost interest in us and drifted away. I never did pick up one of those dirty balls and dad just frowned at me. Caroline Hurst, Karen Theesen & Janet Cunningham The sun was shining and it was the best day ever. All my cousins and I bark a heartfelt thank you to everyone who put together this wonderful day for us, and especially to Debbie Pink, who spearheaded the effort because she knows how much this means to all of us Goldens. 5 f you missed the first GRRR Art Exhibit and Silent Auction, you missed a very nice, relaxing party. We had almost all of the ingredients. There was fantastic food by Cody s Café & Bar (who made a very nice donated to GRRR) and great music by Mezzo Mestizo and their three-piece acoustic trio. ArtHaus was an outstanding gallery, not to mention there s was plenty of free parking. The featured artists not only donated pieces, but were there to mingle, as were many of the top emerging artists that had their work on display. Why do I say almost all of the ingredients? Because most of you weren t able to make it. This event was unlike any other GRRR event. We had a broad array of artwork, from dog art to beautiful landscapes, eye-catching photography, and some very sophisticated pieces. Linda Pierrel and Barbara Wilson were busy sketching charcoals of attendees favorite dogs. Cody and Owen represented the GRRR dog family. Owen sat on a chair at the welcome table and greeted everyone. Cody was quite the party animal and worked the crowd. It was either all the paw shakes, extra food, or the mileage he put on that caused him to finally say enough. At about 9:15 he lay down in the middle of the gallery and fell sound asleep. This was a great event for GRRR members who don t normally come to our events, as well as others just looking for a nice evening out in an emergent area of Denver. It also really helped us financially at a time when our vet bills have been higher than normal due to several ACL surgeries on some relatively young dogs. We ll do this again, but next year we want all the ingredients, including you. Thank you for your great support of the dogs and GRRR. BBQ - main course will be provided, but please bring potluck item: hors d oeuvres, appetizers, side dish, dessert (if in doubt, bring the side dish). Drinks provided. 7 A Special Thank You By Kevin Shipley It seems like every time I turn around I am saying "Wow!" This time, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of a few people who donated sprinkler repair, ground prep, and sod to the large area behind our day kennels. The pups will absolutely love it and it will really make everything jump up to another level visually. GRRR is grateful as we did not have to spend a dime on this project! Special thanks to: Arrowhead Landscaping for the sprinkler work, ground prep and laying of sod. Kremers Turf Farm for all the beautiful sod. CBL Foundation for taking care of all the incremental expenses and additional material costs. Because of their generosity, GRRR can keep its funds focused on having healthy dogs for appreciative new homes. Thank you all very much!

8 he VIP Team holds training sessions throughout the year to help us interact with the dogs more effectively. Our last session was on September 13th with Carole McMurry. Carole has years of dog training experience to share with us so that we are better able to work with the dogs. Subjects covered include loose leash walking, getting in and out of the kennel run, how to put on the training collar correctly, dog body language and much more. Training is not required but is highly encouraged for all members of the VIP Team. Everyone is welcome to attend a training session. Anyone who has a dog will benefit from the techniques Carole teaches us. We have had a great summer walking and playing with the dogs. Cooler temps this fall will let us spend even more time with the dogs at Phoebe's. There will be more training classes and we will let you know when they're scheduled. Thank you to everyone on the team for all the time you spend with the dogs. Upcoming Events There will be a volunteer booth at the GRRR Halloween event and the Photos with Santa Claus event (November 16th). Please come by and see the different opportunities available with GRRR. There are sure to be fun volunteer opportunities that fit your lifestyle. Lots of enjoyable ways to help, ranging from once-a-year to work-from-home to ongoing needs with the dogs. Come by the booth and see if there is something for you. Wow, major bargains galore! GRRR will be blowing out a lot of merchandise at our Halloween and Photos with Santa Claus events. This will be a wonderful opportunity to purchase some GRRR and non-grrr merchandise. Gets some great bargains and help the pups at the same time.
