3 ell, it's that time of year again. Brace yourself for cold and wind and snow, oh my! We are getting everything at Phoebe s Place ready for the winter. Looking back at 2015, we were very fortunate to have such great volunteer support all year long. That support included several businesses that had groups come out for a day of volunteer service. They completed many small but important projects we just couldn't get to. As many of you know, there is much that goes on behind the scenes to make everything run: whether it's Bill Urbanowski riding the big green machine (mower) every week, Cathy and Russ Jones making sure our new lawn area is well cared for by Arrowhead Landscaping, Sukie and Bill with VIP making sure our walkers are getting trained and much, much more. I'd like to give a special shout out to Bill, Sukie, Diana, Karen, Linda Panter, Carole, Justin, Lori, Roberta, Pete, Don, Debbie, Linda Pierrel, Jeanie, the event teams, VIP team, transport, food delivery, foster peeps, Leigh, Leslie, Debbie P., Gloria, Hugh, Peggy, the thank-you-card writing team, the GRRR board, and everyone else that helps make GRRR run so smoothly. Next up at Phoebe s Place, we have a grant to help get the outdoor dog runs covered (thank you Linda), and we would like to get a nice flat 12' x 15' cement slab poured next to our storage shed to keep some of our supplies off the dirt and better protected. Thank you also for the financial generosity of so many who keep Phoebe s Place going and make the care of our precious dogs our top priority. t s not every day you see software programmers, marketers and product managers throwing a tennis ball to more than 15 rescued Golden Retrievers, but last week, the Oracle Data Cloud team was doing just that. As part of Oracle s Global Volunteer Days, Oracle Data Cloud organized an afternoon of volunteering at Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR) in Arvada, Colorado. Employees pitched in with everything from trash pick up to moving gravel, and finally, giving the dogs some playtime. Volunteers are the life blood of this organization, as we only have two employees, said Kevin Shipley, Executive Director at GRRR. Work groups like Oracle are extremely important for us because we are primarily volunteer-driven. All those little things that make a dog rescue work happen behind the scenes, and those things behind the scenes wouldn t get done if it wasn t for our volunteer teams. 4 ecember 8th marks GRRR s 4th year of participation in Colorado Gives Day, one of the largest online philanthropy events in the nation. With significant increases in donations every year, we put a lot of effort into letting our supporters know how much this means to us. Our 2015 goal is an ambitious $50,000, which we re confident we can achieve. As our fabulous volunteers, I m preaching to the choir about why you should support our wonderful Golden Retrievers. You know best of all why we are willing to spend what it takes to assure each of our dogs the highest quality care that will help them find their forever homes. We differentiate ourselves from shelters and other rescues with your volunteer help and top-notch veterinary care that others cannot provide. We value both equally. Yes, it often feels like we re always asking for money, but you also hear us regularly asking for volunteers to do a host of assignments. November 1st marked the opening of the early giving opportunity. Any donations you mark for Colorado Gives Day will be held until December 8th and eligible for all the cash incentives from 1stBank and the Colorado Health Foundation. You ll also be hearing more about the rally on the steps of the state capitol building Monday, December 7th. We d love to have you and your Golden Retriever attend and generate support.
