Puppies are eligible to compete only if they have reached their 4 month birthday (not 16 weeks) by the day of the trial. 3. A question concerning the height of a dog may be made only by another exhibitor in that class, or by the judge. The measurement will be determined by the judge and considered the official height of the dog in question for the duration of the trial. Requests made by spectators will not be honored. Please note: Height Cards will not be accepted at this event. The dog in question will be measured prior to the event. 4. Classes may be split or combined if entries warrant. 5. The judges decisions are final in all divisions. 9. Refer also to the Division Rules which precede the Classes for each division. ** Division Rules Barn Hunt (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. With your help, your terrier must locate and work the rat in the barn/hay bales. 2. As a courtesy to all, please walk your dog before entering the barn-like enclosure. 3. Handler and terrier should remain outside the enclosure, in the designated area, until invited in by the judge. 4. Four tubes will be placed among the hay bales, only one tube contains a rat. The handler/dog team will be given a maximum of three (3) minutes to locate the rat. Timing starts when the terrier is released from the assigned starting area. 5. Handlers may encourage/coach the dog, but no touching is permitted. 6.Timing stops when the handler clearly calls time as soon as the terrier has engaged the rat, similar to GTG. There will be a 5 second penalty if time is called for the wrong tube. The lower the time, the more successful the hunt! 1. The dog must work the tube for 5 seconds. 2. No cross entries permitted. 8

Trailing & Locating (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. The dog is judged on its ability to follow a scented trail in a simulated natural hunting environment above ground to locate, mark and/or open on the quarry. 2. No schooling is permitted in the starting area before competition begins. Handlers violating this rule will be disqualified and no entry fees will be refunded. 3. All Trailing & Locating classes are conducted off lead. 4. The handler must remain with the judge throughout the competition. No directional hand signals are permitted, although verbal encouragement is allowed. 5. Scoring is based on a combination of time and accuracy. The dog with the fastest time is not necessarily the winner. 6. Timing begins at the starting point (a natural marked spot indicated by the judge) and ends at the finish line (a natural marked spot approximately two to three feet from the actual quarry). 7. Disqualifications: Bolting: Runs directly to quarry without trailing. Quitting or leaving site location 8. Penalties of 5 to 15 seconds are added to the score for the following faults: Backtracking: Runs back over the scented trail. Over-running: Over-runs the trail at a sharp turn. Weaving: Runs from side to side of the trail. Swinging: Races in wide circles in hit or miss fashion. Does not follow line directly. Babbling: Starts inappropriately off the trail, or on other quarry. Puttering: Retraces game trail, explores off trail, urinates on bushes, pokes in holes, and wastes time. Handling Error: Misleads or distracts terrier. Does not follow instructions or rules. Switching Quarry: Swings off trail completely. Dog runs other quarry or trail. 9. Bonus: Marking Quarry: 15 seconds off clocked time. Opens on quarry: 15 seconds off clocked time. 10. The winning dog in each class will achieve the best score. Lure Coursing (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. This event is judged on timing, form and ability to follow the lure on an open course. 2. Dogs to be run individually; seconds are added for going off course or cutting corners. 3. Each dog will be allowed two runs. 4. The winning dog in each class will complete the course with the best score. 9

Go To Ground (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. A timed event which stimulates the natural instinct to hunt. The dog enters an artificial den to demonstrate its working ability by following the scent of the contained rat at the end of the tunnel. Open to Jack Russells, all earthdog breeds, and all dogs of suitable size to fit in a nine-inch artificial den. 2. Schooling prior to the competition is NOT permitted. Any violation of this rule shall result in disqualification of the schooled terrier from Go To Ground competition at this trial. No entry fees will be refunded. 3. Prior to the event, exhibitors are responsible for collecting any score sheets for their terriers at the registration area, for completing the pertinent information and, at the time of the competition, for taking them to the Den Steward for scoring by the Judge. 4. Exhibitors should examine the score sheets carefully as they contain important information regarding the requirements, specifications and judging criteria of each class. 5. Please Note: There will be no JRTCC Trial Certificates issued at this event. 6. Exhibitors should read the complete Go To Ground Rules posted at the event site. 7. The starting line shall be placed two feet from the entrance hole. Timing starts when the dog is released by the handler. The dog is to be released so that all four feet are on the ground before crossing the starting line. The dog may not be pushed or thrown toward the hole. Any violation of this rule, accidental or intentional, shall result in disqualification of the dog from the class in which the violation occurs. No entry fees will be refunded. 8. After the dog is released, the handler shall remain next to the entrance hole. Once the dog has entered, the handler may not block the entrance hole by standing in it or in any other manner. Commands and encouragement may be given. The judge will signal to the exhibitor to pick up the dog at the completion of their work. 9. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to collect the completed/signed score sheet from the Judge before leaving with the terrier. 10. If at any time during a GTG run the equipment fails, the dog will be allowed a re-run at the end of the GTG event, after all other terriers have completed the GTG class. 10

Brush Hunt (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. The challenge is for the dog to use its natural instincts outdoors to successfully locate and work the quarry above ground in a fully enclosed area. 2. One encased quarry will be hidden within the brush area. No scent will be laid. 3. The handler and dog will start inside the fenced area, at the entrance gate. 4. Timing begins when the dog is released by the handler, who remains at the gate. 5. The dog will be allowed a maximum of three (3) minutes to locate the quarry. 6. Approximately one minute after the release, at the signal of the judge, the handler may begin to give verbal encouragement only to the dog and may also move about the enclosed area. Should the handler use body language/signals to assist the dog at any time, the terrier will be disqualified. 7. At the end of the timed challenge, the handler will promptly retrieve the dog and proceed outside the fenced area. 8. The successful dog will have demonstrated a focused, yet spirited, attempt throughout the competition, in the least amount of time. 9. The judge will determine if/when the dog has located and worked the quarry successfully. 11

Ball Retrieval (NON-SANCTIONED) 1. Dogs work individually in this timed event over distance. 2. A line is marked off at 50 feet from the designated start. The ball must be tossed by the handler, or someone designated by the handler, to end up beyond the line. 3. Timing begins when the terrier crosses the start line toward the ball and it ends when the dog returns to the start with the ball. 4. There are 2 chances per entry. 5. The handler may encourage, but not touch, the dog during the timed period. 6. Each dog s final score is the best time of the 2 retrievals. 7. The winning dog in each class will have the fastest retrieval time. Agility (NON-SANCTIONED) For their health and safety, dogs under 1 year of age MAY NOT participate in any class/practice run. No choke slip or show collars allowed in the ring. Buckle collars only. The owner/handler, entering a dog in any Agility class and utilizing the obstacles assumes any risk. The JRTCC and judge(s) are not liable for injury sustained to the handler or dog resulting from the use of equipment. The handler agrees to abide by all safety rules/precautions. The handler may not possess any type of food, toy or motivator during a class. Unless the run is For Exhibition Only (FEO), in which case the handler may use a toy or motivator provided s/he announces same to the Judge and scorekeepers at the start of their run. Any dogs that display excessive fear/aggression in the Agility ring will be barred from competition and no refunds will be given. Bitches in season and any dog the judge deems to be serviceably unsound may not compete. Specials Rule apply. The A-frame is lowered and there will be no spreads or doubles for Specials and Veterans. The decision of the judge shall be final in all matters of scoring and handling. 12
