1 MHGRC Gold Diggings November 2016 KATHY BOURLAND EDITOR President s Column Fall is here in all its splendor. I can tell because the Nominating Committee was working round the clock to get volunteers to stand for election for Board positions. Thank you Linda Stranahan and your committee for all your work in getting the slate together. That being said, each of us needs to really think about how we can get more involved in the Club. Next year, four members of the Board will be at term limit and will not be able to run again. The positions that will need to be filled are President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Obedience Representative. It is not too early to start thinking about qualified candidates. Anyone interested would then have this year to "shadow" the current incumbent and get an idea of what is required. Please think seriously about standing for election to one of these positions. We also need some folks to step up and be able to run the Speciality. The current group has been doing it for four years and they are getting a bit tired. This is an event we all enjoy and benefit from so it only seems fair that we all participate in sharing the work of putting on a Speciality. If you are interested, please contact Lauren Relay or Angela McLean. I also want to encourage all members to attend the November membership meeting. We are trying something a bit different. It will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 2:30 in the afternoon. Since the 2017 Board will be voted on we will need a quorum which is 10% of the membership. Please plan on attending. 2 Donations for Colorado Pet Pantry Blue SpringsN Katydid will be collecting donations for Colorado Pet Pantry from October 15th - November 12th. Most Needed: unopened dog and cat food, but will also take dog & cat supplies like litter, bowls, collars, leashes etc. There will be a collection box in the office. Colorado Pet Pantry is a food bank for pets of those individuals and families in need of a little assistance. Please help us out. A MHGRC Thank You, Thank you Thank you to Erik Foster, Don Carson and Cindy Partridge for helping me put on the MHGRC hospitality breakfast! We served mini quiches and smoked salmon along with muffins, bagels, yogurt, granola bars, hot and cold beverages. Even Ane Brusendorf pitched in and made an apple bread pudding from left over bagels! Everyone was saying that once again MHGRC raised the bar and it was the highlight of all of the breakfasts that clubs put on at the national! In addition Bruce and Suzie made an incredible flower planter with a golden silhouette on the side for the MHGRC "basket" for the 2016 national. THANK YOU! We filled the flower box with colorado items and it became a high ticket item! Meaning it was displayed all week for people to put special raffle tix in to win the planter. We had two bottles of colorado wine, special pottery with mountains on it (large cheese platter and a wine holder), wine pottery goblets, peach jam, peach salsa, peach jelly beans, moose poop chocolate, river pebble chocolates, tortilla chips, gold aspen ornament, colorado beer with CO moose beer glasses, Columbine seeds, stuffed black bear, CO dog biscuits, stuffed warthog AND CO flags. Cindy Partridge won it and had to fly it home! Thanks to everyone that also helped us all week with the GRCA trophies! Don and Vickie Carson

Treasurer s Report Absent. COMMITTEE REPORTS Obedience Obedience/Rally part of the Specality went well and folks really liked our judges Kudos to Bruce, Angela, and everyone who had a part in buying and setting up the new trailer Judges are hired for next year and Francie will start looking for judges for 2018 Should probably have a discussion about declining obedience entries at a future meeting- should we open up to sporting dogs? Agility Absent. Field Francie will not be able to coordinate the pictures for this years field issue -- she is moving out of her house and does not have the time. Marcy will try to find someone else but the deadline is Oct 19 and photos have to be at least 300 dpi for submission. The WC/WCX event will occur the weekend of June 22-23, hosted by MHGRC and the Flatcoat Club. The Hunt Test scheduled for Sept 7-8 is still in need of a chairperson. Warren and Kathy Frizell volunteered to take this position. YEAH!! Conformation Pam said everything went great at the Western. Old Business Marcy Werner stated that she is getting job descriptions from GRCA but also found some written by Barb Branstead and will send DRAFTS out for comment and changes. The club would approve the job descriptions Marcy also stated that she is working on starting the Operating Procedures that would cover such things as how much we pay for trailer hauling and how that amount was approved. Once she gets a partial working draft she will send that around for comments and additions. New Business New Business: Christmas Party. Bruce and Angela McLean have graciously offered to host the Christmas party. The Club decided that Saturday Dec 3 would be the best day for the Christmas Party. There were none. The slate as presented by Linda was then approved to be presented to be voted on at the November meeting New Members: Linda Saunders was voted in. She has submitted her application and dues, and has attended 2 events and this meeting. So has met the criteria and was voted in as a member Next meeting will be Sunday November 20.
