3 Welcome to our sale of Value Based Genetics! I would first like to thank all of our returning as well as new customers for your confidence in our program. We strive to produce trouble-free, profit enhancing cattle with longevity to add value to your cattle enterprise. Indexes and genomics have inundated the cattle genetics world, and like most things in life, have great benefits as well as some blind spots. If there were EPD s for everything our sale catalogs would be as thick as the New York phone book! With indexes and EPD s historically having low accuracy on virgin animals we believe in a balanced approach to raising seedstock, as there is an incredible amount of detail that affects the final profitability of a cattle operation. We strive for cattle that require minimum maintenance and are consistent in their birthweights with better than average growth. In a nutshell, pounds pay the bills but you can only sell a live calf. I would encourage you to study our videos and pedigrees as there are certainly some bulls and females in this year s lineup that offer outcross opportunities to greatly improve your cattle operation and profits! We guarantee satisfaction with your purchase and will do everything in our power to make sure our genetics add value to your program. Keep in mind our sight unseen buyer guarantee and consider giving us a call in advance of the sale so we can fulfill your needs with the right individuals. We pride ourselves in excellent customer service, so buy with confidence that these bulls will make a positive contribution to your cattle operation. Lynda and I were fortunate enough to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary this year. For our honeymoon 40 years ago, I borrowed $360 against my last summer paycheck; we took my 68 Ford truck with an insulated topper and decided to go to Mount Rushmore to hike around and camp for a week before heading back to Iowa State and to our jobs. Well, I managed to break my ankle about a month before our wedding so there went the hiking, and the first night of camping it poured down rain and of course our topper leaked, so we slept in the cab of the truck. The truck didn t have air conditioning and the third week in August was over 100 degrees every day. The good news is we stayed married. The bad news is Lynda has never camped again. I did, however, convince her to venture back West to the Black Hills with our kids and grandkids this fall to celebrate our milestone anniversary. It was the most fun trip that Lynda and I have ever taken and we all had a wonderful time. And no...we didn t camp. Paisley Grace is 2 ½ going on 4, both in size and smarts. She loves the cows, the horses and the 4 wheelers. She is always eager to help Lynda with baking cookies, which I don t really mind as someone has to eat them. Steve and Brianna are fantastic parents and now Steve has an appreciation for a little one that never er stops moving, doesn t sleep much, and is extremely headstrong. It always follows the genes. Steve continues at Target Headquarters and Brianna with the National Marrow Donor Program. Elijah Todd is a bit past 2 now and likes anything that involves a ball or wheels. He is football crazy and loves to run and jump on grandpa like he is tackling me. Of course that is a great reason for tickling and boy, can he giggle. He s also a critter kid, but prefers to ride on a tractor all day long. Todd and Michelle are also fantastic parents. They are expecting their second child, so by sale time we ll have another little one. Michelle is now co-owner of the Elkader Veterinary Clinic and Todd continues work with York Risk Services Group. We appreciate all that Todd does with On the Hoof Media. Continue to watch our website and Facebook page for Todd s videos and updates. Lynda swears she will retire someday from her work with the State of Iowa but following my lead never gives a date. She loves to babysit grandkids and jumps at every opportunity. Mostly, she takes really good care of me and for that I am truly thankful! I am so fortunate to have the love, help, and support of my family. As a father, it s especially rewarding to see my kids succeed and I m very proud of all their accomplishments. Special thanks to Lynda for making me a better person and for the great meal today! Our production partners have the same goals and commitment to producing superior seedstock that we do. Please take the time to get to know each of them. I would like to extend my thanks for all their hard work and dedication toward producing some of the best seedstock available in the industry today. The Springer Family Noah Michael Christianson Born at 1:02 p.m. The sale will be broadcast on See page 2 for more information. Our list of helpers con nues to grow and Lynda and I appreciate all of them. I m not sure how many pies the kids have conned Lynda out of this year but I would guess it is approaching 30. I certainly don t mind and Lynda loves to bake and has a lot of fun with all of the kids. She tends to kind of adopt them which is great for all. Natalie Knobloch is now a junior at ISU pursuing a degree in elementary educa on. She recently won showmanship at Block and Bridle s Li le I where you show mul ple species. Congratula ons Nat, well done! Alex Hansen con nues at Farmers Coop in Wykoff, MN. When crop work slows down he is Johnny on the spot for ca le ac vi es. Alex is always smiling, hardworking, and a great young man. Maddie Fitzgerald was off to ISU this fall and the quiet was deafening. Her Photography by Maddie business is growing and keeping her busy 24-7, which is what she likes. Maddie wants to learn how to be a ring man this year so we will see if Tom Rooney can tune her up a bit. Erin Ryan started this fall breaking the bulls and heifers and is really calm around them which they really respond to. She is also pre y quiet, which Mike and I have both agreed has taken some ge ng used to a er having Maddie around the past few years. She is doing a great job and we are looking forward to her con nued help in the future. Mike Wilson has fully recovered from his cancer opera on last year and con nues to feed and treat the ca le like they are his own. On Wednesdays Joel, Mike s grandson, is without a si er so has been coming out to help Mike feed the cows. You can tell they both love it and really enjoy spending me together. Thanks for all the years of help Mike! We couldn t have done it without you. I would especially like to thank the Kimball family for all of their help in Denver and with sale prepara on! It takes a tremendous amount of effort to make this all work and I could not do it all without their help. With good people good things happen and I am fortunate to be surrounded by some of the best! Thanks to their whole crew for all of their hard work and support. As always, all of the ca le selling are guaranteed to perform as expected or we ll fix it to your sa sfac on. We encourage everyone to take advantage of our hospitality and join us Friday or Saturday for a showing of the bulls or tour of the cowherd. Lastly, and most importantly, please remember our servicemen in your thoughts and prayers as they con nue to protect our rights and liber- es. We look forward to seeing you February 3rd! 1 L to R: Alex, Maddie and Erin

4 To protect your investment, Caitlin Insurance will be offered on your livestock purchase. It covers many of the hazards to a bull, including foot rot and injury that mortality insurance does not. We will pay 3% of the premium on your choice of policy, and if leaving your bull until May 1st would require at least the inexpensive policy be purchased. A representative will discuss different options just prior to the sale and answer any questions you may have. Springer Simmentals will continue to warranty your bulls for disposition, sound feet and legs and breeding soundness just as we have in the past. Sincerely, Jeff Springer

Steve & Boni Hanson and sons Steve Hansen Family Several years ago we were looking for a purebred breed to go on our Angus/Angus cross cows.we decided on Simmental and ended up at Jeff s sale that year. We purchased our first Sweet Meat son. We have owned several bulls from them and even have purchased a few for other people. We were looking for calves that come easy at birth and have that extra vigor to get up and nurse on there own. We have not been disappointed. The calves have always weaned easy and really grow. An added bonus the bulls are easy keepers and need very little special treatment. We sold a 6-year-old bull this past July who had always bred cows and hadn t had a mouth of grain or silage in three years and weighed 2300 lbs when sold. Jeff, his family and crew are true commercial cattlemens supporters where good, sound cattle and pounds pay!!!! Thanks! - Steve Hansen 13

Many continue to stay productive for years or longer. Meaning they calve on time, wean heavy calves, and breed back to do it all over again. The cows have excellent udder quality and are super docile. Simply put, these cattle work, and sell themselves. If you re looking to advance or enhance your program, I would strongly consider the Springer Simmental program! - Jason Hansen 14

There were useful things about all of them. The Relentless females in sale catalogs this fall appear to have enough chest floor to make cows, yet enough look for some to make show heifers. They look to have enough hip to make me excited to see the sons this spring. I would expect sons of either mating to be bull stud caliber or donor prospects!!! She is a no-miss cow that you will see a lot more of her offspring representing our program in the future. TJ High Calibre is the $400,000 selection by Herbster Angus to benchmark their Simmental program. Great phenotype and great. I can t wait to get some on the ground. I think this will be special.
