2 Welcome to the Ellingson Simmentals 13th Anniversary Performance Bull and Female Sale Dear Friends, Welcome to our 13th Anniversary sale. Thank-you for your interest in Ellingson Simmenals, your encouragement and commitment to find quality Simmental genetics keeps us working hard to provide you with top seedstock. Once again we thank McDonald Farm and Simmental and Strommen Simmentals for bringing a quality set of bulls and bred heifers to the sale. We feel fortunate to have purchased Duke Cattle Company s half interest in Wheatland Bull 680s along with three Canadian breeders, Perkin Land and Cattle Co., Handford Simmentals and Tyler Lyne. 680S sired the Champion Get of Sire in 2009 and 2010 at Agribition and also the 2010 Grand Champion Simmental Bull. There is an excellent selection of bulls, bred and open females to select from sired by 680S, and since we cannot sell semen this is your best option to obtain 680S genetics. We are doing embryo work with our herd and I have 2 cows in partnership that we will be selling all of the open heifers out of this years calf crop. This year has been very unique for us as I usually don t have to worry about running out of water for the cattle on pasture before the grass runs out. We did have the lengthy dry period and heat that most of you also had, it amazes me how well our crop turned out with such little rain and how good the cattle handled the dry weather. We did wean our calves in September as the water holes were drying up, but they hit the feed bunks running and never looked back. Many embryo calves raised in Minnesota had a more difficult summer but are starting to show their stuff. The bulls were on a gain test for 81 days after weaning from which average daily gains were calculated. The TMR ration they received was ten pounds of grain, 25 pounds corn silage, six pounds chopped alfalfa and free choice grass hay. The bulls and open heifers will be ultrasounded for carcass data on February 1, bulls old enough will be semen tested, with scrotal measurements taken also. Hopefully all color and homozygous polled test results will be in the footnotes, if not we will have them on our web site. We invite you to inspect the cattle on the farm before the sale.
