4 10 Stay tuned for upcoming changes to our newsletter! We will be taking a break from sending out a monthly newsletter for the rest of 2018 as we work on some exciting changes for the new year. Please look for our new quarterly newsletter starting in 2019!
Paw Print Personals! Frost Playful guy with boundless energy seeking a human who can provide great care for me and keep up with me! Come hang out with me at First Avenue! Meet Leah, our Volunteer of the Month for October! Leah started volunteering in January 2016 and has already contributed over 580 hours of service to our shelters. Making a difference, learning and being around animals, are Leah s favorite reasons for volunteering. Leah volunteers primarily in the surgical suite but she, at times, also volunteers cleaning kennels, washing dishes and litter pans, doing laundry and helping in the small animal room. Leah loves the work I do. Being in surgery and helping in other areas of the shelter, is always the highlight of my week. From volunteering at Greenhill, Leah has learned my true passion and purpose in life. I ve always known I wanted to work with animals in some form, but getting a position in the surgery suite confirmed and defined my path. Leah loves every bit of the over two years she has been volunteering in the surgery suite. Leah states seeing amazing surgeries, cleaning and building surgical packs, folding drapes, cleaning kennels, and soaking up as much as I can, is an incredible feeling. Leah moved to Eugene from Southern California in 2014 in order to finish her degree in animal science and continue on to veterinary school. She recently added a second degree in fisheries and wildlife with a minor in marine conservation and management. Leah has two cats and four bunnies. She enjoys being outside, needlepointing, reading, and spending time with her family and pets. Casanova Handsome, outgoing boy who would love nothing more than to sit on your lap all day! Come see me at Greenhill! Freya Gorgeous and playful girl looking for someone to shower with affection! Come say hi at Greenhill! Meet our Foster of the Month, Ann Porterfield! Ann has been a volunteer at Greenhill on and off for about 15 years now, but just recently became a foster mom in spring of this year! Ann has adopted two dogs, a cat, and two rabbits from Greenhill over the last 25 years! Ann says, I decided to foster because I m retired now and have the time, and because I really miss having a rabbit, but I m still grieving the loss of Dickens, a Greenhill bunny I had for more than 12 years. Fostering is perfect until I m ready to make the long term commitment again. One of Ann s favorite things about fostering is introducing people to how wonderful rabbits are. Ann recently fostered a mom and her 5 kits! The babies were unbelievably adorable and sweet and loved to be held and cuddled. They are also a riot when they run around and play together. We called it bunny therapy when people would come over to hang out in the big pen with them. If you re having a bad day, come sit with the bunnies! They ll have you smiling in no time! When Ann isn t volunteering or fostering she is out camping and hiking with her dogs. I love being retired! I encourage anyone who loves animals to consider fostering. It is so gratifying to help them along the path to a forever home. They always bring so much joy, and give back more than you could ask for.
4 10 Now called Sebastian, he is great, growing, learning from my 8-year old cat. He is very adventurous and spunky, will push the limits with the older one but she teaches him the boundaries. He likes to come in the bath! No vet check yet but that is planned. Greenhill was fantastic, my Mom and I just stopped in and when I saw him I couldn't leave without him. We have changed his name to Zazu. He has settled very well and is very loving most of the time. One behavior issue that we are working on is him biting ankles when he gets excited. He loves everyone that will give him attention and hasn't been around other animals yet. We did not have time to do the visit in the week period. We did find that he had tapeworms, so we had to have him treated for that. He loves to be held and loves chilling on shoulders. When we are sleeping, he likes to sleep almost on our face or on our chests. He is getting big so fast. He has a big personality and loves his laser toy. He is definitely a purr ball and will meow to let us know what he wants. The adoption process was so smooth and made it easy to get our kitty. Peanut is doing well. He's still a little shy, but seems to be more sociable than the day we brought him home. There is a 5 year-old boy in our family and he loves Peanut. Now called Kirby, she is doing really well. She is adapting to her siblings, expecially our Aussie, they adore each other and cuddle and play together. The other cats tolerate her, not her biggest fans but they deal with it! She is really mellow, curious, and bites anything, the dog, wood, anything. She likes the sunny spots from the window, and loves anybody and everybody. All good at the vets. Greenhill was great, really good process, very easy.
Bast has become such a beloved part of our family! She is very playful and a big snuggler. Her new name is Artemis Bast Meownaois. Her favorite treat is blended pumpkin. She and our daughter Azzie have become the best of friends! The staff at the shelter were so kind and helpful with their suggestions. Their patience was reassuring, and we walked away confident that we would be this kitty's forever home. Now called Jade, she is running the show and spoiled rotten. I have a 70lb. Walker Coonhound, and she bosses him everywhere. He will grrr at her if she gets too near his bowl, but he has been around four kittens during his life and he is very kitten savvy. He lets her know if she is being too much, and when she is calm they fall asleep together on the sofa. She is very entertaining, we have cat toys everywhere. All was well at the vets except for a runny eye, eye drops cleared that up. Greenhill was great, my daughter is disabled and volunteers in the cattery, and I have been around Greenhill one way or another for 30 years. OMG! She's gorgeous and a total lovebug!! She's amazing and I am SO lucky to have her. She's just amazing and gives kisses galore. She loves to be with other animals and she wants to be everyone's friend. Her name is now Chiquitita, but I call her Chicky. She's very good on walks. I'll be making a vet appointment soon. She is just a bundle of joy!! Shelly is amazing! She has settled in so well. She is really comfortable with us. I'm working on leash training with her and other than that everything is great. She is so well behaved. You never know when you adopt a shelter dog how they're going to be in a home. It's great, she is so sweet and cuddly. We were hesitant to get a dog because of some big changes in our lives but we really like having her and it's been so much fun.
4 10 Janice H. "got caught" being incredibly flexible with a doggie transport! Janice - We can't tell you how much it means to us that you are willing to jump in and help with transports like this, and that you have such a calm and cheerful attitude even when changes come up! Ana P. and Miriam P. "got caught" looking for more they could do after they finished their shift early. They happily stayed for the whole two hours doing extra work instead of going straight home after their own work was done. You two are amazing student volunteers! Fostering is a great way to be involved with animals and people. Jennifer R./Teresa S.- Foster Parents
