2 Il presente volume è stato realizzato dagli studenti delle classi prime dell IC Verdellino - Scuola Secondaria nell ambito della progettazione di Compiti Autentici come da disposizioni di Istituto. La tematica scelta per il presente anno scolastico è stata: L antica Roma. Gli studenti hanno accolto con entusiasmo l idea di scrivere un ebook in lingua inglese sulla base delle conoscenze e funzioni comunicative studiate durante l anno, realizzando brevi testi e le relative illustrazioni in lavori di gruppo. Al lettore il piacere di fare un salto indietro nel tempo di duemila anni per assaporare l atmosfera della straordinaria antichità attraverso la vita dei seguenti personaggi di fantasia, rigorosamente in English! 3 In ancient Rome there are a lot of different families. One of these is formed by a father and his three children. They live happily in the capital city of the Roman empire and this is the story of their lives

4 OTTAVIANO ROMANO (realizzato dalla classe 1^D) Ottaviano s personal information Ottaviano s house The houses of the ancient Rome have three of two floors. They are made of wood, marble and stone His name is Ottaviano and his surname is Romano. His favorite colour is red and his favorite food is carrots. He lives in Rome. His address is Julius Caesar Street, number 4. He lives in a big house with his family. Ottaviano s family is formed by his three children. He is smart and talkative. He wears colourful clothes. Everyday he grows vegetables and breeds animals. He likes cooking with his family and riding his favorite horse: Flash. At weekends he goes to the theater and the thermal baths. In his free time he draws, hunts, fights and trains. In his work he helps people build houses. When he is at war he lives in the tent. He uses weapons. In the living room there is a table and some chairs. They are in the centre of the room. There isn t a television because there isn t electricity. But they use candles. The floor is brown. There are a lot of windows. The walls are white and there are pictures on them. The sofa is made of sheep wool and they are covered of dead animal skin. In the kitchen there is a small table with a lot of different types of food. There are two vases with salt and sugar in it. In his house there is also a bedroom. There are candles in it and toys, pens and books. There is a lamp next to the bed and a carpet on the floor.

5 Ottaviano s description In ancient Rome, there is a big family. In this big family there is a father: he is Ottaviano. Ottaviano is tall, pump and scary. His hair is long and black. His nose is medium-sized. His eyes are brown. His mouth is small and red. His arms are long and big. His chest is wide. His legs are strong and long. His knees are big. His feet are big and long. He wears: one armor, sandals, one red cloak, two sandals and a long sword. He is a soldier. When he is at home he wears a tunic and a gown. usually eats meat and drinks wine at half past twelve. He goes to the theater with his children at four o clock. In the afternoon he loves going to the theater! Then he goes back home at six o clock. He plays with his children before dinner and at eight o clock they have dinner. Then he reads a book and finally he goes to sleep at ten o clock. Ottaviano, as the father, is the most important figure of the family. He his a real boss. He teaches his sons the art of war. Ottaviano s daily routine He wakes up at six o clock, then he gets up at then past six am. He has breakfast at a quarter past six and then he goes to the field to grow potatoes, grains, apples and grapes. Then he goes to the thermal baths at nine o clock. He has lunch with his family: he

6 CORNELIO OTTONE (realizzato dalla classe 1^A) His personal information His name is Cornelio Ottone. He is fourteen years old. His favorite hobby is going to the Colosseum because he likes watching the battles in it. His favourite colour is red. He also likes going to the thermal baths, because he loves relaxing and meeting other people. He doesn t like playing with the ball. He lives in Rome, Colosseum Street, number 3. His favorite animals are cats. He loves eating rice and Uish. His favorite god is Jupiter. His favourite activity is sleeping! He likes Ulowers and roses. His birthday is on December, 31. He wants to be a gladiator. So everyday he goes to the Colosseum. His neighbour is Julio Cesar. His favourite subject at school is Latin. Cornelio s description He has got brown long curly hair. He has got big brown eyes. He has got a snub nose, he has got a big mouth, he has got long arms and long legs. He has got an oval face and a long neck. He has got big muscles, a very very big chest and shoulders, and he has scar on his right arm. He has also got some freckles on his face. He wears sandals and a yellow shirt. He has got a red stripe on his chest and a green crown on his head. Cornelio loves his kitchen. It is a big room. There is one shelf on the wall. Under the shelf there is a chair, on the shelf there is a vase. In front of the chair there is a big table, on it there are many dishes, many forks, spoons and knives. Cornelio s favorite rooms

7 On the dishes there is some food, on the chairs there are people. There is one sink on the right of the shelf where there are pots and pans. Above the sink there is a cupboard. In it there are many cups, many classes and dishes. Next to the sink there are some buckets with water. On the left there is a cooker. Cesare has lunch with his parents and his sister. He eats meat, cereals and pasta. Cesare plays boardgames with Marco. Cesare does his homework at Uive o clock. Then he reads. Cesare goes to bed at nine o clock and his father tells him beautiful stories about animals. Cesare Uinally sleeps at half past nine p.m. He also loves his bedroom. There is a closet next to the bed and there are two chest drawers on the right of the window. There is one rug under the bed. There is one hat stand next to the door. Next to the bed there is one bedside table. There are two blankets on the bed. There are Uive pillows on the chest- drawer. There is one desk on the left of the hat stand. Cornelio s daily routine Cornelio wakes up at four o clock. Then he gets up at ten past four and he has breakfast at half past four. He gets dressed and then he goes to school at seven o clock. He goes back home at midday and then he goes to work at a quarter past midday. He has lunch at half past four and then he goes to the thermal baths next to the Colosseum. He usually plays with his sword at six. Then he has dinner at a quarter past seven. He usually eats fruit and he drinks water.

8 CESARE (realizzato dalla classe 1^B) His personal information Cesare is the son of a Roman warrior. His favorite colours are: gold and red. Gold is for the centurion s helmet and red is for the centurion cloak. The armor is strong and made of gold. His favouite toys are: a wooden sword and one shield. His favorite sports are: using his Roman weapons. His favorite food is chicken with water and bread and his favorite animals are: lions and wolves. In his school he attends war lessons for his future job as a warrior. He trains in his school and at home with his father. He often goes out with his friends on the Tevere river. He wants to be a centurion in the Roman empire. He always watches his father s battles at the Colosseum. He wants to become stronger and stronger. His father gives him lessons and some advice for the future! Cesare s description Cesare is tall. He has got long, blond and straight hair. He has got big and little blue eyes. He has got a small nose. He has got a small and red mouth. His body is thin. He has got long arms and thin Uingers. He also also got long legs and medium and thin feet. He wears typical Roman cloths. It is orange with dark shoes. He has got a sword that he uses to cut the meat. Cesare s house In this house there are two floors. It is very big and elegant with two balconies and a big garden, where there are beautiful plants. In Cesare s house there is living room: on the floor there is a small table and next to it there is a small sofa. Then, on the left, there is a lamp. On the left of the sofa there is a beautiful aquarium, where there are two fish. In front of the small table there is a chest-drawer and on it there are: clothes, pillows and blankets. Under the aquarium

9 there is a desk. Under it there is a carpet. Then, in the garden there is also a small lake with pretty fish. Behind the aquarium there are plants in some vases. There is also a bookshelf, where there are forks, spoons and knives. Besides, in the living room there is a chandelier on the table. Under the table there are also four chairs with some pillows. This is Cesare s favourite room in his house! Cesare s daily routine Cesare gets up at half past seven because he goes to school. He washes his face and he brushes his teeth. Then he has breakfast, he eats eggs, bread and cereals, he drinks milk. Then he goes to school with Marco, his best friend. Cesare enters the school at eight o clock because his lessons start at five past eight. Cesare has got twenty-two classmates and he has got a teacher, his name is Mario. Cesare goes back home at half past two p.m..

10 AUGUSTA (realizzato dalla classe 1^C) reading books. Then she goes to bed and she sleeps at half past ten. Her personal information Her name is Augusta and she is seven years old. She is from the Roman wmpire. She lives on the Colle Palatino. She does a lot of activities in her free time: cooking, working in the farm and cleaning the house. She loves vegetables: her favourite are tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. Her favourite sport is running. Her favourite colour is green. She hates swimming and growing vegetables but she loves company and horses. She also loves sleeping and praying, painting and she loves her boyfriend. Her favourite god is Jupiter Her favourite politician is Julius Caesar. singing class. Then she plays with her friends and she does her homework. She loves doing her homework! Then she has a shower at seven p.m. At night Augusta helps her mom cook the dinner. After diner she usually reads a book at nine o clock. She loves Augusta s description Augusta is a young girl. She has got long and light brown hair. She is medium height. She has got big and blue eyes. She has got a small nose and slim eyebrows. She has got an oval face and a f a i r complexion. She has got small hands, small ears. She is slim. She wears a typical Roman dress. It is long, red and white, and it is made out of cotton and wool. She has got a golden bracelet and golden earrings. She wears a fragrance. She has got also some Ulowers in her hair. She is a cute Roman girl with a Roman hairstyle. Augusta s house Augusta lives in a farm. The colour of the farm is red. There are three Uloors. The farm is big. On the basement

11 there are three rooms for the slaves. They cook and they clean the house and the kitchen. Then, on the ground Uloor, there are the guest room and the stairs. On the third Uloor there are: Augusta s bedroom, her parents bedroom and the bathrooms. In the slaves room there are 10 beds, a Uireplace and a carpet. On the left there are Uive beds and Uive beds on the right. In the centre of the room there is a carpet and in front of it there is the Uireplace. In the centre of the guest- room there are two closets. In Augusta s room there is a single bed and many toys. In the centre there is a big carpet and in front of it there is a closet. Augusta s parents have got a big room with a carpet, a double bed and two closets on the right. In their bathroom there is a mirror. In front of it there is a rug, a washbasin and on the left there is a bath. All around the house there is a garden with some fences all round. Inside there are pigs, cows, sheep, horses, dog and cats. Her daily routine In the morning she wakes up at sunrise. Then she goes to the bathroom and she washes her face and brushes her teeth. Then she always has a shower at a quarter past six a.m.. Then she gets dressed at twenty past six a.m. Then Augusta combs her hair at half past six a.m. She has a very simple breakfast with: a glass of milk and bread. Then she prays at then past seven a.m. Then a man arrives and he teachers her Latin, Geography and History. Then she helps her mom clean her house at eight o clock. At midday she has lunch with bread, Uish, eggs, fruit and some juice. Then she goes to the alter and she prays at a quarter past midday. In the afternoon she goes to the theatre. Then she goes shopping. At a quarter past Uive p.m. she goes to her friends house.
