6 Flower of the Month Carna on This month s flower is as rich in history and significance as it is diverse and with around 300 species, that s saying something! Their genus, dianthus, means flower of the gods, which explains why they were a favorite among early Romans, who made them into celebratory wreaths. Supposedly, these pre y petals first grew from the patches of earth where Mary s tears fell a er Christ s crucifixion. Because of this, carna ons have come to represent a mother s love. Although pink carna ons make a perfect Mother s Day bouquet, not all carna ons are as innocent in their symbolism. According to The Language of Flowers, if you give a bouquet of striped carna ons, you re refusing roman c sen ments. In contrast, red carna ons are best to give when you wish to express roman c passion. Birthstone Garnet The birthstone for the month of January is the garnet. The name garnet comes from the La n word granatum (which means pomegranate ), since the stone resembles the color and form of this fruit. Garnets actually come in a variety of colors, including green, clear, and even black. Green garnets are very rare and thus are the most highly prized. Ancient warriors believed that garnets brought victory, though they disagreed about the ways this task was achieved. The Crusaders believed garnets protected them from wounds and accidents. Asia c warriors, however, believed that using garnets as bullets could inflect more severe wounds than lead bullets.
7 January Those born in the month of January are loyal and a en ve. They enjoy both learning and teaching, and they do not mind hard work. They are dy and respec ul of other people s personal space. When around others, they are quiet and reserved. Social skills do not come easily to people born this month. They are observers, and they tend to focus on other people s flaws. January folks are true roman cs, and they throw their whole heart and soul into rela onships. They take pleasure in the simple things in life. January folks are also very picky eaters. Top career choices for those born during the month of January include: Poli cian Archaeologist Miner Accountant Writer Inventor January Zodiacs Capricorn (The Sea Goat) January 1 19 Aquarius (Water Bearer) January What s Lucky in January? Lucky Color: Red Lucky Day: Saturday Lucky Numbers: 2 and 7 Lucky Le ers: E and S Lucky Plant: Ivy January Quote To read a poem in January is as lovely as to go for a walk in June. ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
8 THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL AFTERNOON! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for attending our recent "Christmas Open House" 2014, in our new location. In my view, the event was an incredible success and on behalf of our team, I would like to thank you for spending the afternoon with us. It was great to have the opportunity to meet so many of you face to face. Our clients here at the Adult Day Program worked very hard to show their talents with all the crafts they had for sale.
