1 2019 Wayne County Rabbit Project Guidelines PROJECT CHECKLIST Enroll in 4-H through 4-HOnline (oh.4honline.com) by April 1. (Each club may set an earlier date!) Attend Quality Assurance Training by July 17. You must either attend one of the county sessions (March 20 (Test Out Option only), April 23, or May 22), a statewide program (ex: Dairy Palooza), or a county livestock clinic that offers QA training. o If you cannot attend any of the above options, there will be a Last Chance QA Session on July 18. A fee will be charged for this session. Project Record Book: Purchase and complete Obtain and care for your animal(s) by June 1. (where applicable) Enter ALL possible and eligible animals (including family back-ups) that you may enter into the fair through 4-HOnline by August 1 st. Help sheets are available at. Skillathon: Attend and participate in one night of skillathon on July 9, 23, or 24 or complete project interviews one night during project judging on July 15 th or August 6 th. Skillathon may also be completed at the Ohio State Fair. Fair Entries- Aug.1: Make ALL fair entries online at waynejrfair.fairentry.com for your animal(s). Read and follow all rules pertaining to your project animal(s) in the Jr. Fair Book (this book should be given to you by your 4-H club advisor in July). Optional: Attend and participate in the Wayne County Rabbit Clinic on June 22nd. o Get QA training and learn about showmanship and care tips to prepare for fair! 2 SPECIAL NOTES New for 2019: Eliminated Rule: Exhibitors must have care and possession of the mother(s) of pen prior to June 1. Exhibitors are now allowed to purchase market rabbits and are not required to own or lease the mothers to exhibit a Market Pen. Exhibitors must have possession of purchased animals by August if purchased. o Exhibitors who choose to still own the mothers and raised the rabbits themselves are permitted to apply for the Market Rabbit Born and Raised title Exhibitors will be recognized in the show bill as Born and Raised, but there will not be a class to separate the rabbits. Must have possession of doe by June 1 st 2019 for Born and Raised. o You can find the Born and Raised form on the Wayne County 4-H webpage under Project information. This form is due August 1 st. A long sleeved, plain white shirt or white coat is required for showmanship, and breed classes (NOT THE AUCTION). Exhibitors in the Junior Fair are not permitted to wear any type of commercial advertisements or names on their clothing while in the show ring. Sale Photograph: Champions will be the only animals to enter the sale ring for Our goal is to display a clean and professional photo of every exhibitor with their animal during the time each exhibitor is selling. It is highly recommended that all exhibitors have their photo taken. However, with the unknowns that come with a building project, the photograph process is subject to change. The extension office will keep everyone updated on photograph times. Suggested Attire: collared shirt, nice jeans, and closed toe shoes are highly recommended as minimal proper attire when exhibiting your animal o Poultry and rabbit Exhibitors: a long sleeved white shirt or coat and nice jeans, and closed toe shoes is required for showman ship and breed class, not the auction. Awards: All exhibitors who receive a trophy, plaque, or other award sponsored by a donor are expected to send a Thank You note to the sponsor(s). Thank you cards will be provided with your award, please turn in your unsealed thank you card to the Jr. Fair Office by the end of the fair. Failure to turn in a thank you card may result in a loss of premium. The name and address of the sponsor can be found on the award. If you cannot find it contact the Jr. Fair secretary. Outstanding Record Book: For 2019 we will be offering an Outstanding record book award to all exhibitors. Books will be due September at the Extension office All Rabbits, excluding market, MUST have an identification tattoo in their left ear before the time of check-in at the fair. All market rabbits will receive a tattoo at check-in at the fair. (subject to change) o The committee will provide tattooing at the clinic. o Contact the Extension Office if you are unable to attend a clinic for other sources.

3 FAIR RULES AND INFORMATION (This is not an exhaustive list. Please refer to the Junior Fair Book for a complete list of rules.) The Wayne County Junior Fair Book is available to all Jr. Fair exhibitors in July (the Junior Fair Book should be distributed to club members by their advisor). All details pertaining to the fair are listed in this book and the August Link newsletter, which is sent to every Jr. Fair family. Members are limited to three (3) entries plus a meat pen in the Junior Fair Rabbit Show (meat pen of 3 counts as one entry). In case of excessive entries this number may be reduced at the option of the committee. Meat Pen entries cannot be shown in another class (except showmanship). Exhibitors wishing to participate in Showmanship must make an entry for their respective showmanship class when completing the Junior Fair Entry form due August 1. All exhibitor ages are as of January 1 of the current year. Eight (8) or more entries are required for a section (i.e. breed). If there are not at least 8 animals in a section, those rabbits will be shown in the respective Commercial or Fancy Other section and class. All class breaks and combinations are at the discretion of the committee. Three (3) or more entries are required for a class (i.e. Junior Buck, Senior Doe, etc.) within a section (breed). If there are not enough animals for a class, they will be combined by age. All class breaks and combinations are at the discretion of the committee. Classes and showmanship will now be placing the Top 5. All Rabbit projects must be in place by Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10:00 pm. Rabbits can be checked in between 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm that Friday. Meat Pens will be weighed and tattooed at this time as well. Entries are to be checked upon arrival and sent home if exhibiting signs of illness or external parasites. All scratches and class changes must be completed at check-in on Friday before the fair. Class changes at the fault of the exhibitor will forfeit their premium. Junior Fair participants are not permitted to bring additional rabbits into the barn to sell or exhibit after Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10:00 pm. Members are not permitted to post For Sale signs on their cages at the Fair. It is essential that all animals have access to clean water at all times during the fair. Please ensure that you have a watering bowl/container of adequate size for your rabbit(s).

4 All Rabbit Projects, excluding meat pens, must remain in the cage on Thursday, September 12, 2019 until the designated release time of 9:30 p.m. Any one removing their animal from the barn prior to the designated release time without a vet certificate will forfeit their premium and will not be eligible to exhibit that project the following year at fair. Junior Fair participants are not permitted to bring additional rabbits into the barn to sell or exhibit after Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10:00 pm. Members are not permitted to post For Sale signs on their cages at the Fair. Small cage decorations and tack may be tore down and removed before the animal release time (9:30 pm Thursday). Market exhibitors are encouraged to clean their pens and remove their supplies any time after animals leave on Wednesday night. As a safety precaution, large hanging signs and decorations that require a ladder/step-stool to tear down are not to be removed until after 10:30 pm Thursday or after the barn has calmed down. Market exhibitors selling their animal(s) at the Junior Fair Sale MUST send a Thank You note to the buyer(s). This Thank You note is to be delivered to the Extension Office beginning the Monday after the fair in a stamped, sealed and addressed envelope, and no later than one week after the sale. Checks for the sale of market animals will be sent to members only after a Thank You note is presented to the Extension Office.

This form is due August 1 st. Meat pens consist of 3 rabbits that must be of the same commercial breed and variety. Exhibitors may only weigh 3 rabbits per meat pen at check in. Rabbits must be born on or after June 15 of the current year. Exhibitors must have care and possession of Born and Raised Rabbits by June 1 and the Purchased Market Rabbits prior to August 15. Meat Pens with any rabbit under 3.5 lbs. (individual weight) will not be able to exhibit, and the rabbit meat pen will be sent home. Animals sent home are disqualified and the participant is NOT eligible to show in the applicable class. Rabbits over 5.5 pounds may show, but are not eligible for Grand or Reserve Champion. Exhibitors may only show and sell one Rabbit Meat Pen. The Rabbit Meat Pen Class will be a terminal show and sale.
