2 Additional Dog Information Additional information and forms can be downloaded from the following sites: Fun Show Participation Requirement Before the fair each exhibitor is required to attend at least two shows with each dog they are showing to qualify to show at the fair. Dogs will NOT be allowed to show at any match unless ALL forms have been turned into the Extension Office and forwarded to Dog Council. Dog Council recommends that exhibitors and their dogs attend as many shows as possible for practice and socialization. Take note that four shows are being held outdoors this year. If these shows are cancelled because of rain, there is the chance they may NOT be rescheduled. Agility Equipment For Sale Dog Council still has a few pieces of old equipment left to sell. If you are interested in any pieces of equipment, please check with us. You do not have to be in 4-H to purchase these items. To view the equipment please contact Alicia Johnston through Facebook or by phone at Dog Council accepts no responsibility and will make every effort to make sure the buyer knows what is may be wrong with the piece of equipment.

3 Dog Public Speaking Contest New this year Dog Council is sponsoring a Dog Public Speaking Contest. The contest will be on the same night as the other public speaking contests (Date, Location and Time not yet determined) We will have a Senior Division (Ages 14-18) and Junior Division (Ages 8-13.) Some of the rules are as follows: Contestants will give their talk in person, and may use notes, posters, visuals or props. (No live Animals.) The talk must be dog related Seniors may speak for 9 to 12 minutes. Juniors from 6 to 9 minutes. Judges may ask questions of the contestant if they wish. Watch for more information as plans become available. Fun Shows Fun Show dates have for the most part been confirmed. Please check the last pages of Paw Prints for the available information. Information will be added as it becomes available. Remember that in order to show at the fair every dog MUST be shown in two shows before the fair. Take note that four of these shows are being held outdoors. There is always a chance that these shows could get rained out and not rescheduled. When making your summer plans please take this into account. 4-H Registration Paperwork Changes Because of some rule changes at the State level, there have been some changes in paperwork deadlines. The new deadline for possession of your dog is April 1st. The following forms are due at the Extension Office by April 15, 2019: 4-H Enrollment Form Dog Registration Form Dog Permission to Participate Form Exhibitor Health Form Dog Vaccination Form (If your dog is not due for their shots you may use the form that was turned in with the 2018 fair entries. When these shots have expired it is your responsibility to make sure the Extension Office is provided with the updated form.) The Extension Office will provide Dog Council with copies of the dog related forms. Anyone missing any of these forms will NOT be allowed to show at fun shows until the missing form is provided.

4 Skillathon You will have two chances to take part in the county Skillathon this year. July 22th and July 24th As of this date we do not know which date will offer the Dog Skillathon. Location will be the New Russia Township Lodge. Dog Class Changes The State has made some changes to the exercises performed in some dog classes. Counties will be using the 2019 State Showmanship questions that can be found on line at the state website. Bait is now allowed in any Showmanship class. It is no longer at the discursion of the judge, but at the discretion of the exhibitor. Rally Advanced will not longer offer an A or B class in State competition. Lorain County will continue to offer both A and B classes at the Advanced level. (Take note that should you go to State the class will not be divided.) There are changes to Pre Novice, Novice and Grad Novice classes. These changes are requiring more explanation. We have two Council members attending the judges conference on January 26, we hope to have more info on these changes then. Project # 200, 201D & 201W are poster projects only. Project # 201O = Obedience & Rally Project # 201S = Showmanship Project # 201P = Agility (Dog must be at least 18 months old by county fair) Any of the above projects can be done as poster projects if you wish.

Do you know which ones? Vizsla Papillon Pharaoh Hound Shiba Inu Poodle Newfundland Norfolk Terrier Irish Water Spaniel Borzoi Scottish Terrier Samoyed Manchester Terrier Sporting Group = These dogs were originally bred to help man find and retrieve game in the field, the water and the woods. Hounds = Hounds come in a variety of shapes and sizes as they were bred for work in places from the cold Arctic to the hot tropics. Hounds track prey by sight or scent. Working = These dogs help man by serving in water, snow and disaster rescue, pulling wagons and sleds and guarding families and livestock. Terriers = These dogs are intelligent and lively dogs that come in a variety of sizes. They dig and hunt beneath the ground and were originally bred to hunt vermin. Non Sporting = They are varied in terms of size, coat, personally and overall appearance.
