1 4-H DOGS Superintendents: Joan Crane, and Heather Magnuson, $2.00 Entry Fee per animal. 1. For additional information, please read the Guidelines for Animal Exhibitors at the beginning of this section. 2. Dogs must be under the 4-H member s regular care and management for 60 days prior to the official county exhibit activity. 3. There is a separate entry form that goes to the Superintendent. It is due at the 4-H Office by the second Friday in June. Exhibitors participating in Agility es must also attach the 4-H Dog Agility Release Form which has been signed by the exhibitor and parents/guardians. Dogs must be 12 months or older to participate in Agility. 4. If there is enough space available, exhibitors may be able to show two dogs. Contact the Superintendent. Members may enter only one dog in each class, except for the brace and team classes. 5. The State 4-H dress code will be enforced at all County contests. 6. This show will be run in accordance with WSU Publication EM4796, Washington State 4-H Program. For additional guidelines, refer to the Skagit County 4-H Dogs & Assistance Dogs Handbook. Contact the 4-H Office for a copy of the handbook. See the handbook for details on entering and qualifying. 7. Dogs must be attended at all times. When benched there must be a minimum of one member for every three dogs or portion thereof. 8. There must be one adult present at the end of the benching area for every 10 dogs or portion thereof. 9. There is to be no feeding the dogs in the benching area. 10. It is expected that members will clean up after their dogs. 11. Each dog entered will remain on the bench except when in the ring or going to the approved potty area until excused by the Superintendent each evening. 12. Dogs are brought to the fair each day for showing. 13. Cloverbud exhibitors may show their dog at fair. They must follow all 4-H exhibitor and Herdsmanship rules. They receive ribbons only in all classes, no premiums. SHOWMANSHIP Division A - CLOVERBUD: For those in the Cloverbud age group (grades K-2). 004 Cloverbud Ribbons Only Division B - NOVICE: For those who have never shown before in Showmanship. 003 Junior Division C - OPEN: For those in their second year or above in Showmanship. 003 Junior Division D - SPECIALS: This class is for Intermediates and Seniors only. An exhibitor qualifies for the Specials class once they have won two Champion Rosettes two consecutive years at State Fair, or have won two Grand Champion Rosettes at our County Fair (does not have to be consecutive), or one Grand Champion Rosette at State Fair Championship Day run-off. Showing in AKC Open Junior Handling also qualifies an exhibitor to show in the Specials class. Once an exhibitor has moved into the Specials class, they shall remain in the Specials class even when moving up from Intermediate to Senior.

2 REGULAR OBEDIENCE CLASSES Each dog and handler must be entered in one Regular Obedience class. es are separated into 8 levels and grouped by skill and age of the exhibitor and their dog. At all levels, a handler and dog team MUST advance to another class if a blue ribbon is earned in their current class at State Fair. Note: Handler and dog team can always advance a class without getting a blue at State. Once a team advances they cannot step back a class. Level 1 - Introductory level for Primaries or first year members and dog teams. This is a non-qualifying class. Division E: INTRODUCTORY OBEDIENCE Note: At level 1, with the exception of Primaries, the handler and dog team may not stay in this class after one year and must advance to one of the level 2 classes. This is a non-qualifying class and is not offered at State. Level 2 - Beginning level. Choose one of three classes Sub-Novice, Pre-Novice, Beginner Novice. Division F: SUB-NOVICE Division G: PRE-NOVICE Division H: BEGINNER NOVICE Note: At level 2, the handler and dog team must advance to Novice if a blue ribbon is earned at State Fair in any two of the three above classes. Level 3 - Novice Division I: NOVICE A - For the first time handler and dog team showing in Novice Note: At level 3, the handler and dog team must advance to one of the level 4 classes if a blue ribbon is earned at State Fair. Level 4 - Choose one of three classes Advanced Novice, Graduate Novice, Pre-Open. Division J: ADVANCED NOVICE Division K: GRADUATE NOVICE Division L: PRE-OPEN Note: At level 4, the handler and dog team must advance to Open if a blue ribbon is earned at State Fair in any two of the three above classes. Level 5 - Open Division M: OPEN Note: At level 5, the handler and dog team must advance to one of the level 6 classes if a blue ribbon is earned at State Fair. Level 6 - Choose one of two classes Graduate Open, Pre-Utility. Division N: GRADUATE OPEN Division O: PRE-UTILITY Note: At level 6, the handler and dog team must advance to Utility if a blue ribbon is earned at State Fair in both of the above classes. Level 7 - Utility Division P: UTILITY Level 8 - Versatility and Veterans/Handicapped (both standalone classes). Division Q: VERSATILITY Division R: VETERANS/HANDICAPPED In order to Veterans/Handicapped, the dog must be 8 years or over, OR have some physical problem that prevents him or her from jumping and/or retrieving. Exhibitor is limited to 4 entries for Divisions A through S. Scorecard C0679 will be used to judge all educational displays. Refer to scorecard when planning display. 2. No copyrighted illustrations or cartoons may be used unless permission has been granted. The display must credit any source of copyrighted information used by permission. 3. All work must have been created during the current 4-H year. 4. All educational displays must be labeled on the back with the following information: Name, First and Last County Club Age Division (Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, Senior) Division Letter and Department (example N-Rabbits) (If display is 3D, attach a card with identifying information.) 5. Exhibits will be displayed according to the identified 4-H project area in the appropriate barn/building, as space permits. 6. Educational displays will be accepted along with other non-animal entries on the Friday before Fair, as specified by the 4-H General Rules. Displays identified with a 4-H animal project area will be accepted either with non-animal entries or are due to the animal superintendent on Tuesday, Aug 7 (Vet Check Day) by 7 pm. 7. For displays identified with an animal project area, check individual animal project divisions for specific criteria, if any.
