3 The above photo was taken by Bret Zawacki, son of club members, Bob and Carol Zawacki. Bret lives in Salt Lake City, and came upon this amazing scene. Bob sent me the photo, and I looked at the ISCA membership roster. Who would have this many Irish Setters and not belong to a dog related club? I ed Russ, and this was his response. I think this would be a new adventure for the ISCO to begin. Any takers? lol Yes Jackie, they are mine. Puppy Maggie, Red Fire Bright Promises At Onora, Rose, GCH Tramore Onora Rose, and Onora Aquila (Asher X Rose). Usually there is a 38 lb granddaughter in the wagon. This strengthens his rear legs and builds muscle. It helps him build his stride and reach for the ring. He likes pulling the wagon. If we do a lot of hills, I swap the yoke for a trace and hook all four up. It s a blast. Only Maggie resents being hooked up. The rest of them never even look behind. Asher will be 3 in April and has 59 GCH points Actually, training them to pull is pretty easy. I have had them pulling wagons since Sometimes they look behind to see what is chasing them but settle down quickly as they love going for a walk. When I lived in Newport Beach, Ca, I liked to walk to the beach which was about a mile but my then 3 year old daughter had to be carried. My Irish boy occupied one hand and carrying Brieanne occupied the other. So, I tried the wagon idea and never carried her to the beach again. There used to be sled dog races near Park City where the Winter Olympics biathlon is held. For many years an all Irish Setter team won. You can see their photos at the link below. It makes a bit of sense actually. They are deep chested dogs with strong legs meant to hunt all day. 4 Bits and Pieces As you all know, we do not usually have a March meeting. This has been changed, and we would like to get as many members as possible to the March 19 th meeting. We will have joining us, Jeanine Wilson and Heidi Laabs from the Irish Setter Club of America. They are flying in just for this purpose, so please try to make it. They would like to discuss with us the 2018 ISCA National which ISCO will be hosting. I would imagine they would like to present to us just what is expected of ISCO, and to delegate some of the committees. We have not hosted and ISCA National since 1994, and I hope our membership will volunteer to be a part of this great undertaking. The meeting will be at Ferfolia Funeral Home as usual. Thanks to all who attended the Annual Awards Banquet on February 20 th. The weather was great, balmy and in the 60 s, and the food was excellent. I do think the buffet is the way to go as it seems to save time, and gives everyone choices. I had many nice comments! Congratulations to all the title recipients and the award winners. Donna, once again, had a very nice display of the awards with a casino theme. Thanks too, to all those who offer an award. The recipients will be printed in this newsletter. Speaking of the awards, there are a few that will need new sponsors. We try to keep the cost of sponsoring an award to about $ Won t you please think about offering an award? You can offer it with your kennel name, or in memory of a beloved person or redhead who is no longer with us. Please think about it and contact Donna, or me, as Donna s is not working. We need to fix that Donna! The upcoming events are the ISCO Spring field trial, March th, and the ISCA Hunt test which will be held April th. We are the host club for this event. I am sure the details are available on the website, and Jeannie will publish the information. As you know, the back to back specialties will be held in conjunction with the Lorain County Kennel Club. The approvals are in, and I will be anxiously waiting for trophy donations. Your donation and the raffle are what make the specialties a success. Ties to be broken by the number of dogs defeated.
