The NGSPA is currently in the process of redoing the Shorthair exhibit, in place now, in the Field Trial Hall of Fame. Additional information and a ballot can be found on the NGSPA website. Winter Beginning Obedience/ CGC Classes 5 GSPs participated in the Beginning Obedience/ CGC classes that were held at Tails Up Dog Training in Lakeville this past winter for Vizslas & GSPs. Thanks to their participation, $197 was donated to the GSPC of MN rescue fund as proceeds from those classes. Twin Cities Vizsla Club Rescue sponsored the classes with Karen Coffee and Diane Felicetta as the instructors. Participants were: John Exline & Gracie; Sue Tesmer & Maggie; Lise Kraemer & Rowdy; Sally Battista & Skeeter and Dan Fleming & Jazz. Sue Tesmer & Maggie went on to take and pass their Canine Good Citizen Test on May 6th. Congratulations! 4 PURINA RALLY FOR RESCUE 2008 Awards Banquet Submitted by Jill Piechowski GSPC of MN Rescue was represented at the Uptown Art Fair August 4th and 5th. The Purina Rally for Rescue Organization sponsored 10 rescue booths there, all organized in kind of an animal rescue row, and we were chosen to be in one. They provided a 10x10 tent, table and 2 chairs, and plenty of water for the dogs. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm reception by a great variety of people, all the way from hunters of all ages to people who currently have GSP s as pets to people who didn t even know what GSP s are. There are many people who are now just a little bit more knowledgeable about GSP s and of rescue. Our goal was to educate the public about GSP s and about rescue, hopefully find potential foster homes and even potential adoptors. We were able to share the booth with the Northstar Weimaraner Club Rescue, so between the two clubs we had adequate help manning the booth. Some of our previous adoptors helped also, and had a great time showing off their dogs: Chad Losee with Radar, Steve Berglund with Winston, Amy Onofrey with Felix and Joan Hjelmeland with Hershey. (see pictures) Their happiness with their dogs helps make doing rescue worthwhile. Todd and Jill Piechowski brought Sport (the English Pointer who snuck into our rescue program), and our newest dog, Molly, who we just picked up from Rochester Animal Control. The GSP club collected $91 in donations that paid for our new GSP Rescue Banner, a bit of printing and pop for the people who worked there. Jill brought some rawhide bones to give to people who donated to us, and also had the GSP s Placed in 2006 display that was at our 2007 banquet in March. This was actually an enjoyable experience and one we will definitely recommend doing again After heading up the annual Awards Banquet over the last few years, Joe Engel has decided to step down form that position. At the September 11th meeting the Board of Directors would like to appoint a new Awards Banquet Chairperson. If you are interested or have any questions about what is entailed with the job, please call Joe Engel at (763) GSPCA WATER TEST July Submitted by Mary Morris On Saturday we had an entry of six dogs in Novice Retrieving Dog (NRD) with one dog passing. We also had one dog entered in the highest test level Retrieving Dog Excellent (RDX). The dog that passed it s NRD test was owner trained and handled by Julie Thate, Snowcreeks Little Bit O Heaven JH now can add NRD to the end of her name. On Sunday we started right away in the morning with three dogs entered in NRD and one entry in RDX. The retriever judges were very helpful on guiding and giving training ideas to the GSP people. Erica Morris dog Ruffian Am/ Can/Int l CH Unbridled Aus Dem Norden CD NA NAJ RE NRD CGC passed her NRD test. The other two GSP s in the NRD test were idiots and nearly sold for bear bait. What we have learned. When something needed to be done, the members of the GSPCMN jumped right in and helped. Many thanks to the Greeman family, Julie and Brandon Thate, for helping with lunch, setting up tents and just being lots of fun. Any accomplishment by a member or a dog either owned or coowned by a member is what will be published. A dog bred by a member but not owned or co-owned by a club member will not be published. The exceptions are if any dogs bred by a member achieves the title in the highest level of the discipline in which it is active.

8 RESCUE Molly came to us from Rochester Animal Control after being surrendered by owners who were moving and couldn't keep her. She overstayed her time limit at Animal Control and shelter workers were desperate to find her a home because they felt she was such a nice dog. She is a 6 year old spayed female GSP who weighs just under 40 pounds.. Molly is a very petite GSP, with delicate features and a prance to her walk. She is very agile, bright and bold and wants to please. She seems to respond well to firm corrections and learns quickly. She loves to cuddle and calms down nicely. She seems to like kids and does well with other dogs. Molly stuck her tongue to a frozen door and the damage to her tongue was irrepairable. She is able to eat and drink just fine. She will need a firm hand to unlearn some of her habits from her previous life, and will do best with a fenced yard. Molly is up to date on her vaccines, and passed her vet check with flying colors. Phone: jill@abbielake.com Smoked Pheasant Spread 8 oz Philly cream cheese 1/2 jar (3.75 oz) whipped horseradish All the breast meat from one smoked pheasant 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder Soften cream cheese to room temperature. Cut breast meat from pheasant and chop fine or put in food chopper and pulse a few times. Mix the pheasant with the cream cheese until well blended, then add the horseradish and garlic powder. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Serve with crackers.
