3 Information regarding RV parking for the 2010 National specialty. RV parking will be available at the Olympia Resort for the 2010 National specialty. However it is less than ideal. It is on parking lot surface, and there are a few islands of grass in the area. Only about 10 RV would have access to grass. The parking lot appears relatively level. There is no water or electric at the parking site, although it will be possible to fill water from a site on the Olympia grounds. Generators may be run as needed, as there are no homes or condos in the area, and the area is a good distance away from the hotel rooms. ISCA will arrange to have a honey wagon to dump motor homes/trailers every few days. Payment for that service is the responsibility of the RV owner. Parking is $25 per night. If you have a room at the Host hotel, the RV parking fee is waived for each night for which a room is paid. The RV area is a good distance away from the show rings. ISCA will provide assistance via golf carts to bring equipment to and from the grooming tent or grooming room. Complete RV information, including reservation form, will be in the December Memo and here The biggest concern I have is that there is a four lane highway just beyond the perimeter of the Olympia Resort. The RV parking area is a huge parking lot adjacent to the perimeter road. Many clubs have hosted Nationals at this site, and there has never been an incident with a dog getting away and getting injured. However it is important that anyone coming to the National be aware of how close this highway is, and that the potential for a disaster is there. Should you be driving an RV, and elect to stay in a campground and drive to the show site daily, the host hotel will allow daily parking in the RV area for people to drive in and out each day. As always, we try to provide info regarding campgrounds in the area, and I thank Heidi Laabs for visiting the area campgrounds and finding out the following arrangements. Ottawa Lake Recreation Area Campground and the Pine Woods Campground are both in the Kettle Moraine State Forest, Southern Unit. It s a huge, beautiful state park. Pine Woods would be quieter than Ottawa. Both take dogs, although not all campsites at Pine Woods are dog-friendly. The downside is that they are both about 15 miles from the host hotel. It just isn t terribly convenient. Reservations can be made online at You have to go to My Reservations and Account and create an account before you try to make a reservation. You can also call They are very helpful on the phone. There is a more convenient site, at Naga-Waukee County Park, maybe 7-8 miles away, with much of that Interstate driving. Unfortunately, there are no hook-ups and it s first come, first served - no reservations. As always campgrounds listed by ISCA are considered part of our show site, and all ISCA members are expected to adhere to rules of the campgrounds! If you have any questions, me at rsetter@att.net or call my cell phone at Anne Marie Kubacz RV Parking chair, 2010 National specialty We have partnered with Midwest Airlines and you can save up to 10% on your airfare to attend the Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty in 2010! 6 I so enjoyed the Bird Training Class held Sunday at Dan & Ann s and wonder if our Club can entice more people to do this. Everyone had a WONDERFUL time at the Bird Training Class held Sunday, January 10, at the home of Dan & Ann Graham. Bird Training was conducted by Janet Parker and Martina Friedeberg and they know how to train a dog! Have you ever done this before? If not, you should think about it for next January.. It was so much fun for the dogs. There were only about 8 dogs. We hunted on approximately 10 acres of Dan s hay field (cut down for the winter) and it has trees/shrubs boarding three sides of it; actually one side is woods. There was about 8-10 inches of fluffy snow. The Dogs loved that. I was so surprised how natural bird hunting is for our Setters. Karen Lause and I discovered our youngsters have wonderful noses. They found every bird in a relatively short time and put them up. I was so concerned about just letting my dogs go off leash and run on all this property. Janet kept assuring me they would come back. You know - they did!! They kept coming back to check and make sure I was still there. Then off they went hunting again. Janet has a gun that shoots blanks when the dog locates a bird and it is released. Good experience for the dog to hear this sound too. This was my first year to actually take the dog on the training - previously my job was to take pictures and when I got cold went back to the house with Ann and those who came just for the potluck and Club meeting. It s important to dress warmly - good insulated boots and gloves are recommended, along with a warm coat and hat. I hope more will come next time. We paid $20.00 per dog for the birds. After paying for the purchase of the birds, any extra money goes to ISCM rescue. What a fun day this was. Worth the three hour drive over and three hours back. Needless to say, our dogs were sound asleep on the way home. I suggest more people take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for their dogs. I was SO TIRED when we were done - a LOT of walking (which is good for me). Potluck was great and so appreciated after all that exercise. Mark your calendar for January 2011 and plan to attend this fun event. Submitted by: Barb Mooney

7 The Christmas party was a huge success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The fellowship was good and the food tasted good, too. Thank you again Vickie and John for opening your home! We pray everyone has a wonderful New Year filled with hope and expectation. God Bless Everyone. NO BOB :( HE WAS TAKING THE PICTURES

9 By: Belinda Booth It s hard to explain how Mattie, aka Orchard Farm Once Upon a Dream, ended up with Mike and Kathy. I got Mattie from Mary Klink, who just wanted her to be a great family pet. That s just what she got when she fell in love with Mike, (one of my favorite brother in laws) Mattie became the princess girl who never did anything wrong unless she got caught in the act. She worked hard at not getting caught! She never wanted her Daddy to know she was not perfect. She went to Florida with them and Wyatt to retire in the warm sunshine, and she loved it. But most of all she loved her family. Around the end of November Mattie was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. She never failed to let Mike and Kathy know how much she loved them, but most of all Mike and Kathy loved her. She is truly missed. Moved by Dave Schafer,, Second Dan Graham. Motion Passed. Minutes approv oved as amended. Treasur easurer er s s Report - Paul Martini Paul gave the Treasurer s report. A suggestion was made that a letter be sent to the Secretary of our 2009 shows asking for an invoice for what she feels is fair, in light of the errors and omissions she made. The club would consider honoring some expenses, such as postage. The letter should indicate that we must hear from her by a date 30 days from the date on the letter, or the matter will be considered closed. Paul asked if there was any reason to keep bank statements from seventeen years ago. The consensus was to only keep what the IRS requires. Paul will look into the retention period and destroy what is not required to be kept. Moved by Debbie Davis that the Treasur easurer er s s Report be approv oved as submitted. Second Susan Schafer.. Motion Approved. SHOW COMMITTEE Specialty Report Martina Friedberg Martina Friedeberg requested names for judges for our specialty. Jan Ruggles has purchased software to be the show superintendent. She has not done this before, but she is willing, and the Gordon Setter Club is using her. ISCM will be asked to pay a portion of the cost of the software. Debbie requested that we look at the new rules and regulations about moving dogs from class to class at the specialty. They have changed. Barb Mooney requested that we publish the new rules in our News and Views. Dan Graham asked who we have hired for obedience judge. OBEDIENCE Dan Graham said there is nothing to report for obedience. AWARDS: ARDS: Barb Popyk sent Dan a balance sheet for Awards.

13 EDUCATION Saturday, June 26, 2010 a sporting dog judges education program is being planned. ISCA requires that one of its approved presenters conduct this education program. There will be two seminars, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A wide variety of dogs are required for this event to be successful and Debbie is requesting that ISCM members bring their dogs to the event. Debbie Davis is organizing the event and Susan Schafer will coordinate on the morning of the event. People applying for new or additional breeds to judge cannot get AKC credit for a breed at a Match, but can get credit by attending a judges education program. Dan Graham requested that someone let Barb Popyk know that the format of this has been changed and that Debbie Davis is in charge of this special event so that she does not duplicate efforts. Debbie will let her know. CARDS & FLOWERS Martina Friedberg received a report from Toni Whipple. Flowers were sent to Jeannie Culver and Debbie Davis. Karolynne McAteer was injured when a barn wall fell on her. The club is sending her a card. NEWS & VIEWS Marianne Hallett said the News & Views is underway and should be ready for publication soon. RESCUE Ann Graham shared that there are currently five males and one female in rescue. Some vet work is scheduled for the one male. Buddy Approx. 1.5 years old, neutered and up to date on all shots, etc. Pretty, dark, lots of energy and very affectionate. He is a good eater and has always kept a clean kennel. Came from a situation where he didn t get enough attention and exercise neighbor felt sorry for him and convinced owner to give him up. Ruckus 6 years old, neutered and up to date on all shots, etc. Very sweet and easy going big boy. He came to rescue because his owner became terminally ill. Is a very easy keeper. Quintus 2 years old, yet to be neutered. He and his brother Flavius belonged to an older couple who got them as puppies and were not able to properly care for them. They are nice looking boys with good dark coats and they are very affectionate. Both need some training. Flavius 2 years old see story on Quintus. Brady 3 years old, neutered and up to date on all shots, etc. Very affectionate, housebroken. He came to rescue because his owners have a 3 month old who will be crawling soon and they worried that Brady would not tolerate the baby (he is possessive of his toys). Casey 1.5 year old, spayed and up to date on all shots. She is a field type Irish with white on her chest and the tip of her tail. Very friendly, energetic and outgoing. We got her from a shelter and not much is known of her earlier life. They did place an older girl this week to a good home.

14 February 10, Minutes cont. FIELD REPORT There was a good turn out earlier in the day for bird class. Everyone who participated had a good time. Make checks for birds payable to Janet Parker. Field work day at the Highland Field Trial Grounds was held on December 12, Another work day is scheduled for January 23, Let Janet know and be sure to write Irish Setter after your name on the sign-up sheet. Again, we are required to do volunteer work and if we don t work we will have to pay a large sum of money to utilize the trial grounds. Bob Hallett asked how many members show up to work, the answer is not enough. Club members prefer the winter cleanup because of the insects (bees) and poison ivy, etc. in the summer time ISCM s Field trials are May 8 & 9, Fall Hunting Test is on the weekend of October 9 &10, Workers are needed for both events.
