2 BRAGS Inside the Ropes Tonya Berger Johnny (Aussie) finished his AKC Grand Championship, in February. He took three major Selects and a Best of Breed at the Albany, OR shows. Louise Wilson My chowgirl, Jolie showed in Rally Advanced B and picked up two qualifying legs at KC of Salinas and Santa Cruz KC shows. Her scores were 87 and 83! It appears that the agility training transfered over. Outside the Ropes Cherrie Brown - At the Sacramento DTC TD test on March 20, Ramble (Newfie) earned his TD. On Friday March 25 he was BW at the KC of Salinas show earning one whole point. AKC News AKC CAR Canine Support & Relief Fund Accepting Donations for Disaster Relief in Japan Tuesday, March 15, 2011 In light of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, many fanciers and concerned dog owners have asked us how they can help the companion animal victims of these tragedies. If you are interested in offering your assistance, we encourage contributions to our AKC Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund. Started in the wake of 9/11, the fund has donated more than $3 million to search and rescue teams and for companion animal relief during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. Funds will be donated to appropriate organizations in support of search and rescue dogs efforts to find survivors and to aid in disaster relief for Japan s displaced companion animals. Thank you for keeping the Japanese people and their pets in your thoughts.
3 DAVIS DOG TRAINING CLUB March 8, 2011 Home of Margret Gerriets, Davis, CA Attending were: Tiffany Stutzke, Tonya Berger, Cherrie Brown, Rick and Connie Batsford, Pam Jewell, Donna Lewis, Melinda Balint, Melody Tate, Mollie McDonald, Margret Gerriets and Kathy Souza. President Stutzke called the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m. Officer Reports President Tiffany thanked Margret for hosting the meeting and providing the enchilada dinner. Vice President Melinda announce the April 12 meeting would be at the home of Donna Lewis in Woodland. Secretary No report Treasurer Connie presented a positive financial report. Committee Reports Membership In Linda Gage s absence, Tiffany reported no activity in regard to new memberships. Agility Tiffany reported approval for the May 21 & 22, 2011 agility trials at Dixon May Fairgrounds. CGC Tiffany reported she would conduct CGC testing April 10 at Hughes Park in Roseville. Ed.: See date change on previous page. Obedience/Rally Melinda, Trial Chair & Secretary, confirmed the trial date of May 7 at Northwest Park in Dixon. Tracking TDX Kathy thanked all the volunteers who made the TDX test possible. She reported 5 teams were entered with one successful pass by a yellow Labrador Retriever. TD/TDX Melody reported the test would be March 27 with entries closing March 17. Kathy Souza would serve as Chief Tracklayer for the test. AOCNC Tiffany reported she served as hospitality chair for the very successful fundraising match recently hosted by AOCNC. Hospitality Melinda reported the May meeting would be hosted by Jennifer Larson and asked for volunteers for future meetings. Volunteers were: Cherrie in September, Kathy in October and Tonya in November. Old Business Pam thanked Tiffany for her help at the Scottish Terrier breed table at Golden Gate Kennel Club. New Business Connie presented a proposal for revised structure for Club night fees and requirements. Melody made a motion, seconded by Melinda, to accept the following proposal. 4 Club Night Guidelines Davis Dog Training Club Effective 3/8/2011 Davis DTC Club Night consists of basic obedience and rally skills incorporated into weekly sessions with rally run-throughs being done every month or so. Participants are encouraged to help others with training issues and/or to occasionally lead group activities. The fee schedule for non-members who attend will be as follows: 1. Prospective members with an application on file pay $5.00 per practice session until their membership requirements are completed and they are voted into membership. Only one Club Night session may be counted as a membership activity. 2. Non-members without an application on file & guests must contact leader or training committee chairperson prior to attending any session to determine suitability to join the group regarding dog s training level and temperament, making certain, as well, that they are aware of the need to sign a waiver of liability, bring shot records, and pay the appropriate fee. Shot records Members were placed on the honor system regarding shot records being up-to-date for their dogs. Others must provide a copy of their dog s latest vaccination record, as mentioned above. Fee discounts: 1. Prospective members may pay each visit or pay $25.00 for a book of coupons for 6 sessions good for anytime within the next 2 months (just about the time it takes to complete membership). 2. Others would pay $50.00 for a booklet of 6 sessions. Proceeds from Club Night will, at the end of the year, be given to an approved charity or shelter program.
