4 Page 4 MAS News August 2018 Navy Support Ongoing Fundraiser Sports Corner has an ongoing fundraiser with the staff and patrons choosing the beneficiary for each session. This time they chose us to donate to! Thank you for your support of our local animals. Enie Domestic shorthair, front declawed, male, seven years old. This sweetheart is a lap cat and waiting for his forever home. Menards Drive Thank you to the customers at Menards who contributed to their donation drive. All donations are greatly appreciated! A big thanks to the Petty Officer Association of the USS Sioux City for bringing in donations and giving our residents some extra love! Wedding Fun Callie Domestic shorthair, front declawed, female, six years old. Affectionate and enjoys playing with toys. Thank You Eric Thank you to Eric Menuier of DJ EzyE for donating the proceeds from his birthday party DJ event. Happy Birthday Eric! Nick and Amanda Benson got married on July 14 th and instead of kissing on the usual clinking of glass, the wedding guests had to make a donation in the jar to get them to kiss. What a creative and fun way to raise donations!
5 Page 5 MAS News August 2018 Rummage Sale Volunteer Opportunities Please consider giving a little of your time by helping with any of the following volunteer activities. Front Desk Greeter: We could use a couple of people to give a day or two a week helping out at the front desk, answering the phone and helping people with paperwork. Cat and/or Dog Interaction: The dogs and cats would enjoy it if people would come out to brush and interact with them. Just sitting with them, reading a book with a cat or dog nearby is great for the animals and it's a stress reliever for people too! Douglas Rodman has made it his mission to sell his toys at a rummage sale and pay for the adoption fee of a dog here at the shelter. So far, he has donated $44 toward his cause. Thank you Douglas for your help! Adopt a Room Cleaner: Helping with cleaning kennels or cat rooms is a great form of exercise. Consider adopting a room to claim as your pet project. Come in once or twice a week to wash behind, under and on top of the kennels. Clean the ceiling fan and storage cabinet room. We will clean inside the kennel. Can Sorting: Another way the shelter generates income is receiving the donation of soda and beer cans and bottles. These need to be sorted by the ones that have a 10 cent deposit paid on them and the ones that don't. The ones that do not are taken to the scrap yard for the price of aluminum. But this takes time and someone that can donate time to sort is greatly appreciated. Maddie Domestic shorthair, female, three years old. Pretty talkative girl that loves attention. *This cat can be seen at Mighty Pet. Fundraising Art Thank you to the two Ryan s at Main Street Electric Tattoo for their fundraising efforts. They are great at both their artwork and supporting their community! Continued Support Please know, we don t take your support lightly! Thank you to all our regular donators who consistently give money, time, food, treats, home-made blankets and other things to help the shelter personnel care for the animals. These donors give for no reason other than to help the animals. We couldn t make it without your ongoing generosity and support.
6 Page 6 MAS News August 2018 Collecting Supplies Girl Scout/Brownie Troop 4440 spent a month collecting donations for the shelter animals. Thank you for all the great supplies and thank you for playing with the animals! Look for the Shelter on Facebook We feature updates on the shelter activities and pictures of our residents along with other pertinent information. No Animals After Hours in the Deposit Box or Parking Lot Anyone caring enough to bring an animal or animals to the shelter should care enough to see that they are safe by placing them in the hands of our staff. We have no surrender fee. Although we have cats on a waiting list for acceptance as space is available, we have never refused to take any animal. Kuranda Beds Tommy Domestic medium hair, male, one and a half years old. A playful boy that gets along with other cats and dogs. Seniors for Seniors Senior Citizens can adopt Senior pets (6 years or older) for FREE! Thank you to Gary, Elaine and Bentley Sevener and all our voting friends for winning five new Kuranda Beds for the dogs to relax on!!
