4 CHILI COOK-OFF November 2012 Page 4 Unfortunately attendance was down; but, the weather was beautiful, the music great (love Joanie Lee), and we Lions manage to have a good time no matter what. I m afraid Lion Jeff had to give up his bragging rights to Lion Marilyn coming in 2nd to her 1st in People s Choice; but, he says it s only for a year and for her to be ready for his rematch. Lion Linda got back on top with 1st Place for the Judge s Choice and I (Lion Susie) came in 2nd even with the major screw-up in my ingredients. Lion Jean Marie and her Lunchette Girls were a riot, even tho no trophy was awarded I m sure it didn t matter, they were just having too much fun. Lion Linda s granddaughters were Lunchette Girls in Training. So, you have a whole year to spiffy up your chili recipe, let s have twice as many cookers next year. K? Lions Paul, Pat, and Debbie S. did a great job in eye testing, 50% proved to need some sort of action and were given a referral. HALLOWEEN DANCE Just check out the pictures, says it all fun time All Lion bartenders enjoyed a great BBQ hosted by Bar Manager Lion Mike Fitz for his appreciation for all their help in keeping the bar running (so we can pay our bills). Lions Mike and Shari McKim did the cooking on their fabulous BBQ, chicken and Lion Mike made some awesome Lamb ka-bobs. All those that said they weren t fond of lamb even loved them. Lions Janet and Kim keep us all guessing with their pub trivia, winners receiving free drink tokes. It was a fun relaxing, kicked-back day and we didn t have to do anything. THANK YOU LION MIKE for your thoughtfulness for what we do.

BIRTHDAY DINNER NOV 30th Lion s Sheri s super Chile Verde SUNSHINE REPORT LION DIANA WHEELER is your Sunshine Reporter Please get all your input to her We need to spread a lot of cheer around this month for our fellow Lions. Lion Roger is up to having visitors. Lion Elden had minor surgery. Lion Mike S. had eye surgery. Lion Pete broke his ankle. Lion Jane broke her wrist. Lion Jeff broke his finger. Lion Gary G. fell from his deck, was hospitalized for 2 weeks, recouping at his parents home, they also found a leaky heart valve. Lion Sally took a headed into the bushes after her dog tripped her and came out with 9 stitches on her ear. Lion Gertie has been laid up and we know she had to be hurting pretty bad to miss the Halloween Dance. Hope you are all on the mend and you have our best wishes for speedy recoveries. Words from your President: November 2012 Page 7 Hi Fellow Lions: October has come and gone and fall is definitely in the air. Started off our month with our DG Coy Moody and wife Marilyn's official visit. Our club was well decorated, dinner was delicious, and many Lions and Lioness there that evening to support our Governor! And of course our spectacular Monday Nite Tacos chaired by Lions Debi B and Sheri V and their Lion helpers--great attendance! Oct 9th brought that great Lion crew for our "Adopt-A-Way" keeping our little strip of highway clean. Next came the Chili Cook Off which was a gorgeous, fun day with vendors, good music by Joanie Lee & Southern Wings, bounce house, Hot Dog Bistro, raffles and famous chili cooker competitors. At that event was also District PediVision machine which tested over 53 of which at least 27 needed some eye referral. Our general meeting brought guest from Dobbins Elementary on sponsorship for pumpkins at the school festival...of course, Lions came through on this youth project with a nice donation of $100. Also, the silent auction by Lion Peggy (smoked salmon) was a great hit and actually "sampled" by several Lions. Birthday dinner Oktoberfest by Lion Jean Marie with brats/pork ribs/roasty potatoes and lots of cold beer was a delicious get together had by all for those celebrated October birthdays. Goblins, witches, ghosts?? Can you guess who was in the costumes at the Halloween Dance -- food, drink and festive dancing to the infamous "Road Test" band. And the upcoming "Trick or Treat Street" night on Halloween -- chair Lion Jean Marie says come join in the fun with decorated vehicles and candy for our local community kids that have no where to trick or treat. Lion chairpersons will be giving a more extensive report on these events. And now already into November...the big event coming up is our Crab Feed on Sat, Nov 3rd which we share with the Lioness. Remember Lions November is the month of thanks to all around us whom "we serve" and once again Lionism Rocks! Submitted by President Lion Roberta We are so very sorry Lion Dave and Liz Thomas for the loss of your beloved Charlie. We all truly know how hard it is to accept. RIP Charlie ON A GOOD NOTE Lions Steve Ball and Bob W. are both CANCER FREE YAHOO. Today's Message of the Day is: A person s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen, and a hand willing to help..

8 DRATS and she was setting right across the table from me. Congrats to Lion Joni for winning the for $45.00 at the Governor s visit, and he even picked the winning ticket. Whats with all these repeats? Lion Gary S. took home the 2nd meetings cash for $ Guess some people just have it and some don t. Congrats Lion Gary and thanks for the drinks. We were honored by the visitation of our District Governor Lion Coy Moody and his lovely wife, Marilyn, at the Oct 4th meeting. DG Lion Coy is a native of Oklahoma, a graduate of San Jose State, and now resides in Redding, Ca. He is also a Vietnam Vet and prior to retirement was a tow truck driver. DG Moody joined the Redding Host Club in 1985 and has held many positions, was Co-Lion of the Year, a Melvin Jones recipient, and is a NASCAR fan. His theme is Driven to Serve and is pushing for sight preservation in young children. In the upcoming months he would like to see all Clubs participate in Feeding the Hungry. He sincerely believes that if Lions weren t present in rural areas our small communities would be at a loss. He, like many, is excited about our new camera and feels there will be a large demand for our eye testing services in all our communities. The young Student Speakers are his passion and feels they are our future leaders. FROM THE EDITOR: November 2012 Page 8 The rain, The rain, we finally got some, yahoo. Let s hope it continues because they shut off BVID as soon as the ground got wet. Didn t want to mow again anyway. Also, as your Treasurer, I m asking every one to be aware of things around you in the Club. With rising costs of everything we need to keep an eye on leaving lights on, A/C or heater running when doors are open, running water, wasting paper products and food, etc, etc. Thank you. If you can, PLEASE bring a raffle prize to the meeting on Thurs for the upcoming Crab Feed, remember we get 1/2 of the profits. Just want to encourage EVERYONE, no matter what your preference, to VOTE in the Presidential election on Nov 6th. Send all letters, questions, or thoughts to strundy@syix.com, PO Box 8147, Marysville, or call Cut-Off for Bulletin publications is by the 25th of the Month LION SUSIE TRUNDY, Editor THANK YOU to Lions Debbie Sutton and Pat Johnson for baking those tasty looking cakes, auctioned off for a profit of $46.00 to Lions Howard and Foster. Did they share? No! Lion Peggy S. auctioned off smoked salmon for a net profit of $32.00, our eye foundation fund is growing, thank you all that cook and those that buy. Don t forget your Needy Family toiletry items at the 1st meeting of every month. They are so needed by our senior citizens and so appreciated.
