PRCBA President s Report: James Hunter Greetings from the president., Yep, I got one of those notices back in the 60 s. I imagine several of you may have received them as well. Well, this one serves the same purpose, more or less. I d like to draft some of you who would like to write articles for the DR magazine. If you re interested in writing about your rabbitry, the PRCBA, the problems you face as an exhibitor and breeder, or any other subject that you believe is newsworthy of national publication, then this is your chance. If you are interested, please me at jkhunter@wbsnet.org and I will send you the criteria you must follow in order for your article to be submitted. Return your completed article to me; I will check it over to see if you have met the criteria; I will check it for spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.; and I will submit it for you. Please remember, when writing the article, that it should be positive and encouraging and of benefit to all rabbit hobbyists and enthusiasts regardless of the breeds they may raise. A friend of mine from Texas once reminded me that the rabbitry is never finished. Thanks, Kenny, for bursting that bubble for me. Just when everything seems to be clicking along as it should be, the breeder will see something that just needs to be tweaked a little, or repair, or something. Such is the way it is here at the Hunter Family Rabbits rabbitry. Three or four, or more, weeks ago I thought I would rearrange the caging and improve the insulation on the newest addition to my rabbitry. I purchased and had installed a simple carport in my back yard just about a year ago. It s large enough to accommodate around 40, or so, rabbits. Needless to say, I thought I would have that work completed by now. Not so. I have about half of the barn upgraded and hope to have the rest of it completed by the end of April. That may be wishful thinking as this is the 25 th. At any rate, the point I d like to make here is quite simple to understand. Never stopped dreaming, or thinking of ways to make your life better in some way. If you do, you ve given up. Once you give up, you re finished and when you re finished you will never be better than you are when you quit. I encourage you to keep fighting to improve yourself, your rabbitry, and your rabbits. Never give up even though you may feel like you re facing an unending series of challenges. Make a list of the things you must overcome and start with the first one on the list. Just being able to scratch one of those challenges off the list will lift your spirits incredibly! Keep plugging away and before too long you will have reduced that list to almost nothing. Yay!!! One important thing to remember through all of this is to take time for yourself to enjoy your accomplishments, drink a cup of coffee, and work with your animals. As King Solomon so wisely said many years ago: Continued on page 5 I d like to draft some of you who would like to write articles for the DR magazine. 2

PRCBA Vice President s Report: Jim Brown Salutations from Pennsylvania, I hope this finds our membership in good health and spirits. I also hope you ve got a few litters in the nest box in preparation for ARBA Convention in Springfield, Mass this coming October. I d like to add a feature to our newsletter; I d like to add a Happenings section. In this section I would like to share with the group newsworthy items about the lives of our membership. Since we only get to see one another once maybe twice a year, I think it would be nice to have a place to keep everyone up to date on our lives. Please send me prayer requests, items to celebrate, graduations, personal goals you ve achieved, as well as your palomino accomplishments. I ve seen a reoccurring theme on the rabbit groups lately that I d like to reinforce, and it s not negative. If you look for the positive in things you ll find it. I ve been seeing the hash tag, Be Nice! Be Kind! a lot. I cannot emphasize enough how important I feel this motto is. I really enjoy attending shows, and if you know me well enough, when things get negative, I m pretty quick to walk away. I, like most, attend the show for fun. I m not there to bicker and make trouble. I m pretty sure if we keep thinking Be Nice! Be Kind! in all facets of life, we ll see an improvement in our daily dealings with the people in our lives. In this issue are the results of our Youth Contests. If you know either of these young people, please congratulate them! These young women are the future of the PRCBA, and I m confident that this club has a bright future with up and coming leaders like themselves. This issue also contains all the results from the All Pal Show in Cheyenne, WY on May 19. Congratulations to the class, variety and breed winners. Remember to keep those Pals cool, as we move into summer JIM B Be Nice! Be Kind! Have you considered advertising in the Pal News? A business card size advertisement for 4 issues only costs a member $15.00 I am willing to help you design an advertisement. Contact Jim Brown at thebrownrabbitry@gmail.com for more information. 4

PRCBA Secretary and Sweeps Chair Reports: Carolyn Wright Greetings from the Secretary s Desk! Well, Old Man Winter is FINALLY gone.just about every time I m ready to take some plastic down, another cold front comes blowing in. We didn t have much of any spring weather in Texas, just went straight to summer! We did have a crazy hail storm come across March 18. Man the hail was the size of soft balls. It sounded like cannons going off went it hit homes with metal roofs. The water was splashing 10 to 12 ft. high in the pond with lots of damage to homes. Two car dealerships east of us had all their automobiles totaled. By the time you read this, Petitions for President, Vice President and Directors in Districts with odd numbers, would have been turned in by May 1 st. Ballots will be mailed June 1 st, if there are 2 or more candidates running for the same office. Should any candidate for an elected office be unopposed, there shall be no election ballot issued for that particular position, and the unopposed candidate shall be declared elected to said office by acclamation. Also, Secretary and Treasury terms are up this year as well. Congratulations out there to, David & Sharon Pellham for winning a 1 st Reserve in February, Elizabeth Hines for winning a 1 st Reserve in February and a Double Congratulations to Makenzi Piper for winning two 1 st Reserves in March on the same day!!! Reminder! Registration Contest (whoever gets the most pals registered with ARBA) and Membership Contest (whoever signs up the most members), ends June 30 th. A winner in both contests gets a free year membership. If you have any questions, don t hesitate to drop me a line. Regards Carolyn Wright PRCBA President s Report Continued Ecclesiastes 10 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 7 Go then, eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works. 8 Let your clothes be white all the time, and let not oil be lacking on your head. 9 Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your [a] fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun [b] ; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. Looking forward to the Spring National Show in Wyoming next month. I hope to see many of you in attendance. I have two rabbits that I will be showing in the Pal shows, as that is all I was blessed with from my earlier breeding s. I had 3 lynx litters and 2 golden litters born earlier this month, so I hope to have several entries of some quality for the Convention and Show in Massachusetts. That s all the wisdom I have to share with you at this time. Enjoy life, be adventurous, and remember to ALWAYS BE A PAL TO YOUR PALS! JKH 5

District 1 Report: Cliff King Howdy from District 1, Hope everyone doing well, and your nest boxes are full. Our does are starting to pull fur, hopefully we will have a few litters soon. It would be the coldest day of the week too. We went on a road trip with our friend Laurie to a rabbit show in Garden City Kansas. We got to see Jim Hunter and his wife Carolyn. There was a good showing of the Pals. Congratulations to Bambi Lamborn on her BOB! Terri and I had the other. They had a great show. We will be putting it on the list to go to next year. I am still recuperating from shoulder surgery that I had in Feb. I am doing well. The doc says four more weeks of physical therapy. District 1 members I would like to know how you are doing at the shows, so I can include it in my report. If y all can think of any changes for the Constitution and By-laws let me know. We are trying to get them updated. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Cheyenne at the Pal Nationals. You will have the chance to show the Pals four times. Take care and God Bless America! Cliff King District 2 Report: Jay Horn: District 3 Report: Tom Lowin As I write this (April 24 th ) it appears that Spring is finally off to a start here in South Dakota. We got above 60 on Sunday. The first time all month. I attended my first Spring show in Yankton, SD on April 7 th. It was held in an ice hockey rink. There was no ice inside, but with the snow and cold outdoor temps, the building still seemed all that much more frigid. I m not sure if that had something to do with fewer rabbit numbers. I had the only Pals there. There were also a few youth pals shown. Hoping the warmer weather will increase my chances of success with rabbit reproduction. Good Luck to you all! Tom Lowin The PRCBA now has an OFFICAL Facebook page. Please ask to join at: Palomino Rabbit Co-Breeders Assn. Or Jim Brown and I will add you 6

District 4 Report: Latosha Lucas Hello everyone, Hope everyone had a great Mother s Day! Good luck to everybody that is going to Nationals. Congratulations to all of the past winners at show. I also hope everyone has plenty of babies in the nest box, Latosha District 5 Report: Beth Thurn Hello to everyone from District 5. I wish everyone well at Palomino Nationals. We always enjoy that show when we are able to go. This year it is the same week-end as our Middle and High School Graduations. Even though I retired from teaching last year, I am still piano accompanist for the vocal groups that will be performing at the graduations. We were able to attend our first show of the year in March. I was happy to sell a young buck to a little girl that had gotten a doe from someone else and was interested in starting to raise Palominos. ~Beth District 6 Report: Colette Waters District 7 Report: Shannon Whitney In Search of Lost Banner The palomino banner in the picture to the left was purchased for one of the ARBA Conventions. We have talked about it at several meeting, and still no leads. I did a search for it, and luckily found this picture. If you have any information on where the banner might be, please let one of the officers know. 7

District 8 Report: Mike Raab Hello Palomino members, It has been a very busy spring for me. Working my full time job and raising rabbits takes a lot of time. But, I do enjoy raising and showing the Palominos. I have been trying different techniques for breeding to get better conception rates. I would have to say it does help. I enjoy getting the Palominos to the youth and on the show table. I am seeing a lot more interest in this breed. I just came back from a show in Canton, OH and there was 3 youth showing pals there. They were having a good time. I am looking forward to showing at the Ohio mini convention in a week. I hope to see more Pal breeders there and meet up. The nationals are next month. I unfortunately will not make that show. Good luck to all the breeders that will make that show. I have a friend that loves to raise meat pens. She informs me that we need to encourage our Pal members to raise and compete in meat pen competition. She says that the Pals are gaining very fast and have very good type. Therefore, I am going to raise some for meat pens at the Indiana State convention this fall and see how they do. Good luck everyone at the shows! District 9 Report: Shannon Cicero Hello all, Happy Spring.. Since my last note I ve accomplished 2 of the goals I wrote about last time; 1) Full nest boxes with convention show team hopefuls. 2) Showed in a new D9 State! My daughter and I, and two other members of our club (Luke and Don) drove down to the NC state convention. I had plans on meeting a potential future breeder and his daughter there. I couldn t wait to show off the Palominos. I was optimistic in bringing in new breeders. I think they thoroughly enjoyed it and left loving the Palominos. There was a very kind note written about me afterwards and it really took me back. I had actually had an impact on someone! First I realized I could be a mentor to new breeder. I never considered myself capable since I m still learning. My second thought was I hope Jim Brown is proud of me? Jim has mentored me for the past couple of years. I look to him for not only advice but for encouragement. I never realized how much of a difference a mentor could really make. He has been such a positive influence on me. I m not only so grateful but I want to pay it forward. Those actions are not only what keeps our breed going, but makes our club so strong. Thank you Jim Brown for all that you have done, not just for me, but for all that you do for us as a club. -Shannon 8

Cailin is from Crows Landing, CA Youth Achievement Winner Youth Management Winner Cailin is a multi-year participant in our youth contests. Until recently, Cailin was only raising golden pals, but she has now expanded her herd to include lynx too. Her herd is comprised of 23 palominos, kept in all wire cages in a carport. Cailin has been fortunate to have had a successful breeding program this past year. Cailin is an active member of several local, regional, and national rabbit clubs. Cailin has been an active participant at the Cal-State Convention participating in their youth contests. Cailin has done well her pals, winning many best of breeds and receiving several honorable mentions on the best in show table. On behalf of the PRCBA, Congratulations Cailin! We are so excited to have you as a youth member! Cameron is from Hackettstown, NJ Youth Achievement Winner Youth Management Winner Cameron is a first-time participant in our youth contests. Cameron is involved in two 4H clubs where rabbits are her primary project. Cameron is very helpful at local shows. She will jump in and assist wherever she can. It s not uncommon to see Cameron writing for judges. Cameron loves her pals, they are her favorite, but she states that she like to have a few other breeds in the barn for fun. Cameron and her mother, Shannon, like to attend shows together. A favorite memory for Cameron, was beating her Mom with a pal she had picked out, it was the coolest best of breed she has won. Cameron has a goal of showing pals as meat pens in NJ. On behalf of the PRCBA, Congratulations Cameron! We are so excited to have you as a youth member! 13
