3 2014 JUDGES PROFILES Pamela Barrett has been professionally involved in the cat fancy for over 38 years. Her British Shorthair cattery Excalibur has had many TICA International and Regional winners until Pam retired from breeding in Pamela has also served as a Regional Director for TICA, Chairperson of the British Shorthair Breed Committee, and is Show Producer and Manager for the International Cat Show in Portland, Oregon, one of TICA's largest shows. As an International Judge, Pamela has had the honor of judging around the world from Siberia to the Bahamas. This is Pamela's 3rd trip to Australia, where she finds the quality of cats, breeders, and shows; world class. Australian hospitality is superb too, so she is really looking forward to the National Show in Sydney, and seeing old friends. Pamela and her husband Henry, live in the Oregon Coast Range, surrounded by towering Douglas fir trees, sharing their log home with a lazy bunch of old British cats. I am a 54 years old nurse, since 30 years in the cat fancy. In the past, I bred, Persian (blue and color point), Siamese and Orientals, for the last 15 years, I have focused on breeding Abyssinians my work was rewarded by the great honor of breeding twice the TICA Best kitten of the year. As the President of the Cercle Félin du Languedoc a charter member of Cats French Lovers, a. Tica club and with the support of a great team, I had the honour to put on big and successful shows in my region the south west of France. I have combined Cat showing with, traditional judging for LOOF and TICA. I am also the Vice President of the Ticked Cat Club a TICA club in England, a member of LOOF, breeder committee member and of course an All Breeds TICA judge. Today as guest judge I wish to share my knowledge and passion for cats with you. My Late Mother used to say: "Nurit could speak with cats before she could speak with people". Yes, my very special relationship with cats started very long ago when, as a small girl, I used to spend most of my time in our backyard, watching the street cats, while having long and intense conversations with them. I felt I understood them completely, and was certain they could understand me talking with them in the Cat language. I was the only one allowed to touch Mizzi's kittens and so they enjoyed walks in my dolls stroller, while all our neighbours said "Here comes the cats' Mama". My Late Father brought home, from time to time, orphaned kittens he found on the street, handed them to me, and I raised them with the help of my doll's milk bottle. That is how it all started and till this very day I have always lived with cats My first pedigreed cat was a beautiful Persian Chinchilla from the Kohinoor lines. That was when I started breeding. Later it was solid coloured Persians and Exotics. In later years when my daughter became independent, it was just the natural thing to start my studies towards being a judge. I am a FIFe member all these years and became an International FIFe judge in Category I in I continued along the road towards becoming an All-Round judge in 2005 I love judging and the interaction with the cats. I love them all. I live with my family in Israel and function as President of the Israeli FIFe club. I am looking forward happily to my forthcoming trip to Australia and to my 2nd opportunity to meet the beautiful Australian cats and the people of the Australian cat fancy FIFe Longhair Judge since 1994, FIFe All Breed Judge since 2012 Still active Exotic and Persian breeder under the cattery name Mimosan ( ) since 1986 President of one of the biggest FIFe-member (Finland) Suomen Kissaliitto since 2010 Longtime president and board member of Pirkanmaan rotukissayhdistys over 20 years Has been FIFe Show Commission member 3 years Has been as a judge in 7 World Cat Shows and 3 Scandinavian Winner shows Love of life: Cats I live with my cats in hills of Christchurch, New Zealand. A bit damaged by the Earthquakes, as we say here shaken but not stirred". I have been involved with animals all my life, bred and exhibited Weimaraner's and I have owned Oriental and Siamese. In recent years I managed to acquire a Devon and have bred and exhibited Devon Rex since. Presently focusing on an outcross program to expand gene diversity and also bring the cinnamon colour into the Devon Rex gene pool. My extended family and my passion are my cats. I am a Senior Shorthair Cat Judge and I still exhibit Devon Rexes. I am currently the Breeds Standards Advisory Portfolio Manager thus hold a position on the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Cat Fancy. Thirty something years in the hairdressing industry, my choice in cats is certainly the "minimal maintenance, wash and show" shorthair cat breeds. I am currently working on my Longhair Judges Qualification with the NZCF. I look forward to judging your cats for the ACF National and meeting the exhibitors, their cats and developing new friends. I would like to thank the show committee for this opportunity. I became involved in Birman Cats in 1987 and got my Prefix, Preference" in I bred these beautiful cats for about 17 years starting off with seal and Blue points and then going into the Tabby points later. I also bred the first 2 Double Grand Champion Birmans in NZ. I achieved Best Longhair Kitten in 1999 and that's when I decided to give the breeding and showing away and concentrate on my judging. I entered Judging school about 1992 and then stopped in 2005 for 4 years as got burnt out. I came back to judging Longhair section in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying the judging more than I did before. I also breed Shihtzu dogs with friends who have convinced me to keep going and that they will show them for me. So I am still involved in the dog world as well as the cat world. I am looking forward to judging at your National Cat show in June 2014 and look forward to seeing some lovely cats as well as nice exhibitors. Thank you very much for the offer to judge at this show. Could well be the highlight of my judging career. PAMELA BARRETT TICA JEAN MARC LAGARDE TICA NURIT PAHL FIFe VEIKKO SAARELA FIFe ROY GRIFFITHS NZCF PAUL HENRY NZCF

4 I have lived in Hobart, Tasmania all my life with my husband Peter and our son Nicholas. I started showing cats -- primarily Persians -- in the '70s. My husband later fell for the Cornish Rex, so we began breeding and successfully showing them along with Persians. Over the years we have also owned other breeds including British, Burmese and Ragdolls. I started my Group 1 licence in the early '80s and just kept going until I finished my All Breeds licence. I have judged in every state of Australia as well as both (North and South) islands of New Zealand and Malaysia. In addition to judging I have served on Cat Committees, holding various positions. I thoroughly enjoy judging and meeting the beautiful cats and their dedicated owners. I have bred Siamese, Orientals, Foreign Whites, Burmese, Devon Rex, Scottish Folds and even a litter of Abyssinians under the Fioric prefix, my first litter was born in I have been a regular exhibitor for over 28 years and have exhibited in most parts of NSW and occasionally interstate. My first Maine Coon litter was born in 1999 and I ve bred these amazing felines since then under the Coolcoons prefix. I ve imported several of these cats from the UK, Norway, the USA and quite a few from New Zealand. I have enjoyed considerable show success with Coolcoons cats and kittens having won many Best Group 1 Exhibit and Supreme All Breeds Exhibit in Show awards as well as NSW CFA Kitten and Cat of the Year Awards. I ve owned and/or bred Cat or Kitten of the Year in all 3 Groups with NSW CFA since I first began exhibiting.i gained my Group 3 judges licence in 1999, followed by Group 2 in 2003 and I completed my Group 1 training in 2008 and have enjoyed judging in most states of Australia, in New Zealand and South Africa and transferred all those Licences in 2013 to Cats NSW Inc. As an All Breeds Judge and a teacher of senior secondary students, I have been privileged to be able to pursue both my love for cats and education. I have been part of the cat fancy since childhood showing at my first show at age 12, I am very keen to encourage youngsters in showing their cats. My own breeding of cats has included British, Persian and Exotic, specialising in tabbies and ownership has extended from Domestic Shorthairs to Japanese Bobtails. I have judged all over Australia and New Zealand, as well as in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and Denmark. My roles in the cat fancy have included President of the Cat Association of Tasmania (Inc), President of the ACF (Inc) Judges Guild as well as club and show management positions. It is always a pleasure to share the knowledge and love of cats at shows. SUE BARR ACF Tasmania FIONA COOPER ACF New South Wales I have been owned by cats in one form or another for most of my life, starting with a black and white domestic when I was toddler. My first pedigree cat was a seal point Siamese that my husband insisted on buying me in 1981, and after buying the third Siamese (a chocolate point female) we decided that perhaps breeding just one litter shouldn t be that hard famous last words! We kept a chocolate point neuter to show, and was hooked when he kept winning! We specialised in Chocolate Point Siamese for several years before we branched out into other colours and Orientals all with a reasonable amount of success. I become involved with shows on a management level, managing two shows and also holding the position of Vice President of The Mid Northern Valleys Cat Club for 12 months. I became a steward in 1991 and still steward at shows when required. I was accepted onto the ACF National Panel of Judges as a Group 2 judge in 2006, and extended my licence to include Group 3 in Thank you for this opportunity to judge at the 2014 ACF National Show and look forward to seeing everyone s beautiful cats. Anne began breeding and showing Maine Coon Cats in the year She has concentrated on health, temperament and quality in her breeding programme and has produced some successful show winners and Cat of the Year winners in that time. She has imported Maine Coons from the USA and New Zealand to ensure genetic diversity, and she is passionate about selecting and breeding for health. She gets the most satisfaction from placing healthy well-balanced kittens into homes where they bring joy and companionship to their families for many years. Since beginning her Judges Training in 2006, Anne has developed an appreciation for beautiful cats of all breeds. She qualified as an All-Breeds Judge with FCCQ in 2012, and was accepted to All Breeds level on the ACF Judges Panel in Anne is committed to supporting and promoting the cat fancy, and has held a number of executive positions over the years. She is currently the Secretary of the Siamese and Shorthair Cat Club of Qld Inc, President of A Touch of Class Cat Club Inc, and Secretary of the FCCQ Judges Association. She assists with and manages cat shows, as well as being an active member of the Feline Control Council of Queensland Inc where she is currently serving on the Management Committee. Outside the world of cats, Anne works as a Senior Engineering Technician with a large international Engineering Consultant. She also enjoys reading and travel. Our feline friends have been a part of my life since early childhood. Even an asthmatic allergy to cat hair could not lessen my love, devotion and involvement with cats. Aged 13, I was granted my Breeder s Prefix Kalinya, thereby entering me in to the pleasures and heartaches of breeding and showing Siamese. During my teenage years as a junior member of Illawarra Pedigree Cat Fancy I worked as a Steward and wherever else I could be of assistance. My breeding and showing life was interrupted for a longer than expected period by my human breeding programme. Resurrecting my Kalinya prefix in 1990, I resumed feline breeding with firstly a rescued lilac Burmese then British Shorthair and since 1991, my first love, Siamese. Promoting our cats around NSW has been and continues to be of immense pleasure. In 1996 I successfully passed my Steward s exam and now thoroughly enjoy working in this role handling and learning about all the breeds and meeting and working with all of my fellow Cat enthusiasts. I am a member of Riverina, Illawarra and Highlands Cat Clubs and have taken many roles with each of them including Club President, Club Secretary and Show Manager. By gaining my Judges Licence for Group 2 (2003) and Group 1 (2007), I have given myself the opportunity to share my knowledge and training with exhibitors and to continue to promote the responsible ownership and breeding of cats. 5 I am not as well known for my Burmese as I am for my Burmilla s, which I started breeding with GCCFV approval in As far as I am aware I registered the first Burmilla s in Victoria. I am passionate about development and the protection of the Burmilla breed in Australia, having supported 3 new breeders in a mentoring program and developing contact with Burmilla breeders in Australia and Internationally alike, enabling me to import two males from Europe after sending two over myself. Silver is my passion, feline genetics and health a consuming interest, always questioning and wondering about the possibilities I have been a qualified steward with GCCFV since 2004, stewarding or helping in some way at a lot of shows, I am a long term member of the Burmese and Other Shorthair Cat Club. I finished training as a Group 2 and 4 Judge in December 2005, and have completed quite a few Judging Assignments including an assignment at the 2009 CCCA National Show in Perth and one for Palmerston North in New Zealand in I qualified in Group Three in of 2010 bringing me to All Shorthair. Hopefully I will be able to contribute many more years to the Cat Fancy yet and maybe I will meet up with you at a show soon. Bernadette is an experienced ACF Groups One and Two Judge who has bred and exhibited extensively over both groups for more than 20 years. Together with her spouse, Ian Honour, Bernadette has, since 1990, bred and exhibited numerous cats of the year in the Turkish Van, Oriental and Siamese breeds, including the Best All-Breed Alter at the 2011 ACF National Show. She adopted her first Oriental in 1980 and her special interest and love is silver cats. The unforgettable silver spotted Oriental, Byanda Tail of the Century, was a multiple cat of the year winner over several years and entranced all those who knew her. She was the first cat in mainland Australia to win an ACF Award of Excellence. In the Turkish Van arena, PDGC Vanwillow Wonder Woman won the first ACF Award of Excellence for a Turkish Van and was also the first CCCA Champion Turkish Van. Bernadette was the co-editor, with Lesley Morgan, of the 2012 Australian Cat Federation Yearbook and played a significant role in drafting the text for, and editing the content of, the new ACF website.bernadette cites her current hobby as sourcing cat shoes and cat tights but declines to reveal the current size of each collection! MICHELE RISTUCCIA ACF Victoria BERNADETTE ROBERTS ACF Queensland I was destined to be a cat lover, both of my parents having had cats throughout their lives. As a child, I had a large black and white companion cat. My first pedigreed cat was a dear little apple headed Siamese, and my show experiences began in I was in awe of the ability of judges to assess each exhibit and my goal was set to become one of their ranks. Over the years, I have shared my life with Siamese, Russian Blues, Australian Mists and Somalis, breeding and showing their lovely kittens. In 1992, I moved from New South Wales to Victoria, and joined the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Australia and Victoria, and have been a member of their Executive as Treasurer since I have also progressed through the various levels of show management to achieve my goal of becoming a judge, getting my Group 2 licence in 1998, and progressing to All Breeds, and Tutor Judge. I have judged in all Australian States, and New Zealand. Whilst my cats are very important, I still find time to enjoy a varied life. My working life as an accountant closed in 2013, and I did not realise that retirement could be so time consuming and rewarding. My days are spent gardening, and enjoying the company of my cats. I have family and friends interstate to visit. I have been an Opera Australia subscriber for 35 years, am also subscriber to Australian Ballet and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and enjoy most other types of music. My evenings are generally spent doing embroidery (cat designs, of course). I am also a very keen reader, particularly enjoying current affairs, history, biographies, and good spy thrillers. My mantra for life is Learn something new every day. MARGARET STEED ACF Victoria Jenny has owned cats her entire life, starting with farm cats as a child.
