1 2 Hot Off The Press Not only does the WARCI club have David Gallagher all the way from the UK to Judge our two day stock show. Hills club have just announced that we have Scott Wiebensohn all the way from the USA to Judge our June show on Sunday the 21st. W hat a huge few months for the club. ANCRI National Extravaganza This time last year 22 of our club members left WA rabbits and suitcases packed to be at the first ever ANCRI National Show in Seymour, Victoria. Next week we see a smaller but no less enthusiastic group head for the airport again to be at the second ANCRI National Extravaganza, this time in Tasmania. From what I have heard the Tasmanian club have put in endless hours of organization with endless exhibits and events to coincide with the two day show. We wish those members participating safe travels, every success in the competition, our readers will be expecting an article on return. Go Team WA!!!!!! Trainee Judges in the making Rex, Swiss Fox and Polish. The juniors also covered Netherland Dwarf. Once the breed talks were finished, the BRC rulebook point system was reviewed. It was then the Trainees turns to get hands on and place the five or six rabbits in each breed class. I think most Trainees came to the consensus that sometimes it isn t as easy as it looks. Happy to say most members weren t that far off. Stay tuned Trainees another day could be just round the corner; stay tuned for the May and June Show weekend. Fundraising WARCI & Hills Clubs would like to thank Bunning s Mandurah and IGA Mandurah for their donations. The Sausage sizzle raised a signicant and much needed funds for the clubs. Thankyou to all who volunteered. Melanie has organized another fantastic raffle for the May Show, Thankyou to Melissa Jeffes for her generous raffle donations. Don t forget to buy a ticket! Sunday the 19 of April saw a large number of members attend our first trainee show for the year. Members came that were interested in starting or furthering their Judge training, or members that simply wanted to learn more. Jenny Buckingham prepared a number of handouts, quizzes and talks by local Judges Chris Dean, Jo Sutton and Adrienne Hawkes. Breeds covered were Dutch, Tri Dutch, WARCI Issue

WARCI TROPHY SHOW Show Report by Rowland McDonnell Committee and members; Thank you for your invitation to judge your special show. It was a great experience and the hospitality provided was wonderful. The show itself was a pleasant and rewarding day, which I enjoyed immensely. I was made to feel welcome by everyone present and the day was a pleasure to be part of. The atmosphere was good and everyone just poked along as it all fell into place. The stock presented was a nice mixture of breeds and the work put in by exhibitors was obvious. Starting in the lop section which entailed almost half the entries for the day, the task ahead started to unravel itself. A nice class of Dwarf Lops was a pleasant surprise. Evenness of colour was noticed amongst these. A standout was a nice steel, which was a nice stocky animal of good type. Ticking was good and even but just a shade off the preferred colour. This exhibit was a fairly easy choice for runner up lop behind the winner for the group. Third place lop was a chinchilla French Lop. Although it was a bit disappointing not to encounter some of the much commented on steels, this was a nice example of how the breed is developing. My choice for 3 rd place lop on the day. A couple of young Germans showed promise but need a little more shoulder. The Mini Lops came out in force with just under 30 entries. A nice mixture of selfs and shadeds took a little time to sort through. Crown and ear placement would seem to be an area in which all our minis could improve. In saying that though my choice of best lop came from these and was a very nice example of the breed. A Siamese Sable with very nice head, ears and crown and a great coat with good texture and density combined with lovely colour it was, in my estimation, a worthy winner of the group. Amongst the minis was a nice orange U14 with very clean colour. With its crown placement, head and ears as they were this should develop into a fine adult. Moving on to the fur group, which, although only presenting about a dozen exhibits, put some nice stock on the table. Always a favourite of mine, the Silver Foxes were represented and were varied. The winner of the breed had lovely density and although being a little coarse in coat and having a slight stain was a very nice Fox. A couple of Satins came across and from them a nice blue was my runner up fur. A Sable and a pair of Smoke pearls were produced and one of the Smokes was my choice for best fur in show. This was a very nice exhibit with very nice type, good colour, nice saddle and a great coat. The Swiss Fox were a nice group and were well presented. The Rex group produced some good competition with many having nice coats and colour. My winner for the group was a black self with a very even coat on the day, great texture and density and nice head. Back to the fancy group and we kicked off with the battle of the woolly ones. Angoras were all of nice type and well presented. My pick of the breed was a nice U5 choc torte, which stood just a little above the rest on the day. This exhibit also took my runner up for the fancy group. 4
Show Report by Rowland McDonnell cont.. Jersey Woolleys are a breed just starting to gain some popularity in the East and it was a pleasure to get amongst a nice variety of them. All REWs, it was again an U5 taking bob. With a nice body type and even coat it was just a touch above the rest on the day. Netherland Dwarfs were well represented and it was pleasing to see a variety of them with fairly well placed ears. The breed is certainly improving again. My pick of the Netherlands was a black fox adult with a lovely type and very nice coat and colour. This also took my 3 rd place for the fancy group. Three Polish were presented and the U5 took the honours in the breed from two adults. With an outstanding presentation on the table and all the fine points, which are indicative of the Polish, it was my pick of the fancy group for the day. A tan rounded off the group and was a nice rabbit with a lovely even colour and nice type. Well, the day was almost over and now there were some decisions to be made. After going through over a hundred entries for the day, crunch time had come,. Lined up on the table for BIS selection were four very nice exhibits. An U5 black otter Polish from Fancy, a Siamese Sable mini lop from the Lops, a Smoke Pearl from the Furs and a black self Rex from the Rex group. The Somerset black Rex was my selection for the BIS. With a great evenness of coat and colour, a nicely proportioned body and being well presented it was hard to go past on the day. My runner up BIS was the Dreamchaser black otter Polish. With lovely type and presentation and coming in at just on 800 grams it was felt that it could fill out just a little to be an excellent all round exhibit. The best U14 on the day was the Somerset Angora, which took runner up Fancy, and best U5 was the Dreamchaser Polish, which took best fancy and runner up BIS. Thank you again to WARCI club for the invitation to travel to WA and judge for your club. Thank you to the committee and the members for the welcome extended. Special thanks to Toni and Mark for their hospitality and to Aaron for a sightseeing tour of your lovely city. I enjoyed the weekend very much and hope that exhibitors were happy with the way things went on the day. With much appreciation, Rowland McDonnell. 5
Greetings again from the States, Let me first state how honored I am in having the opportunity to return to judge in your home country of Australia. I am so excited; I almost forgot to introduce myself! Hi, I am Scott Wiebensohn. I am a decade in when it comes to the judging aspect of the hobby, but certainly not new to rabbits. Having raised rabbits for over twenty- five years has brought with it multiple wins, entertaining weekends but most importantly long- lasting friendships. Over my years, many breeds have come and gone through the barn, but the two that have decided to stick around for most of the time. These are the ever- striking English Spot, which I have raised from the beginning and the always- entertaining Britannia Petite (your Polish). I have what most consider a medium sized rabbitry, for my breeds. And I could not forget to mention my side project, of creating my very own line of Dwarf Hotots. I currently hold memberships in the following clubs: ARBA, American Beveren RC, American Britannia Petite RS, American English Spot RC and American Dwarf Hotot RC to just name a few. Being a member of any national or local club is not only rewarding, but also quite educational. If you didn t think I was busy enough, I also sit on the ARBA s Library Committee as I am a librarian by profession. On average, I judge about a dozen or so shows a year. I take the role of being a judge quite seriously, but still keep it in the realm that this is still only a hobby for all of us. The exhibitors are paying clubs a substantial entry fee in return for my educated evaluation of their rabbits. Throughout my professional career I have judged at every ARBA Convention and on average a National Breed Specialty Show or two annually. More recently this past April, I had the privilege to judge the National French Lop Show At the upcoming 2015 ARBA Convention, I have been selected by my peers to judge the English Spot at such a prestigious show. 6
Greetings again from the States, cont In my spare time outside of the hobby I absolutely enjoy traveling. Whether I am with a group of friends on a fishing trip in Canada or on walk on a glacier in Patagonia, each have their own adventurous appeal. To me, there is no more exciting of a sport that soccer! This is why I play it whenever I can with my busy schedule. I am also quite involved in volunteering with youth through various organizations. It is always interesting to find out what others do who share the same hobby as us. You will never know unless you ask. I would like to personally thank John and Jenny Porritt and for rehiring me to judge your June show. The weekends the clubs have planned for everyone will be one you do not want to miss! Finally, I would like to wish every exhibitor and their family a safe trip in venturing to this much anticipated event. Wishing you all only the best and see you in June. Scott Wiebensohn Pet & Vaccination Day HRC Vaccination and Pet Day is being held on the 24th May, Vaccinations are $35 per rabbit. If they have 6 or more rabbits it is $30 per rabbit.
